As for the Parisian down-market scene, I would say that the rumours of its death are greatly exaggerated. - Although one might sometimes wish they weren't!

Unlike Denis I don't much like cruising around by car. Even when the Boulevard des Marechaux was packed with working girls a few years back I found it a bit too hectic, and the success rate ("success" = good looking girl + unrushed service + no mishaps with my car/policy/voyeurs/etc.) definitely below 50%. I must however add that in those days I focussed on girls from the Balkans, and they as a general rule are much more likely to pull tricks than Denis's preferred Chinese staple.

The traditional haunts around Metro Strassbourg-St.Denis, Boulevard de Strasbourg and Place de la Republique seem to have changed somewhat, with the police's clampdown on hotels renting by the hour to Chinese-looking women beginning to show its effects: the Chinese crowd has dwindled to a few dozens of real pros. The semi-pros and after-work-girls of the past are rarely seen these days.

Conversely, the Balkan girls and Arab women are making a reappearance, especially immediately around, and to the north of, the Metro station. In almost any one of the seedy cafes (which means any cafe around there!) from early afternoon you'll find a few working girls, who will claim they are from Bulgaria. - Apparently "Bulgaria" is shorthand for any of the countries Bulgaria, Romania, Albania and ex-Yugoslavia. Most of the girls look gypsy, and all of them look ugly IMHO. As far as I can make out their main clients are the Turkish guest workers who hang out in the neighbourhood, so it's not exactly upmarket business! That said, if you approach one of them, looking comparatively well off, they'll be quick to demand 100+ euros, or at least twice the going rate.

The most promising market segment these days is the Moroccan/Algerian women who hang out, and walk the streets, in the same area. They are mostly old, mostly overweight, but it is among them that a few newcomers and part-timers show up every now and then. Only last week I came across a plump, fresh-faced young Algerian girl around 20 yo who agreed to a standard price of 30 euros plus hotel. Wanting to make sure, I asked her whether this included a full service with f and s (French: la pipe et l'amour). She smiled slyly and answered "Bien sur. If you want more than that, let's discuss." She was friendly, open minded and sticking to her side of the agreement and I'll try to hook up with her again. As far as I can make out she lives in one of the run-down suburbs and is normally pimped for by her local youth gang. Ah, you don't have to convince me: I too used to prefer the service of the Chinese vendors. They are generally sweeter and more likely to stick to a deal than the Medditerrenean women (Balkans + Maghreb). My problem is, I like a premium service, so I've built a reputation among the pros as a "good payer". Which being so, such prices I may have paid in the past to secure a true GFE have now become the floor. I used to get around that by picking newcomers or semi-pros, but as that supply has dried up (thanks Sarko!) I'm now a bit boxed in.

I accepted Denis's kind offer to provide me with a couple of phone numbers, and upon his request I make this posting to share my experiences with the rest of you.
