I'm arriving in Santo Domingo for the first time this weekend and staying in the Jaragua. Do they allow their guests to bring chicas into the hotel? If not, what if you were to meet a chica in the casino? Would it be easier then to get her to your room?

North of Kennedy Avenue and not far from the Botanical Gardens.

Seems you were on calle rosario, which seems to go under las americas highway and from calle rosario seems you made a right onto respaldo juan luis duquela, and the Universidad Tecnologica de Santiago is on the left when that street meets Calle Luis Duquela (a one way southbound street that heads toward las americas highway) , probably a banco polular ATM machine near there as well.
Thanks for the intel, I'll check it out next time I am in DR. Avenida Venezuela bars are 5 minutes from that location, you could meet a woman there and then invite her to Avenida Venezuela and visit bars there, with her.

I have stayed there twice, years ago. One time in the main building, where the lobby is (tower section) and one time in the garden section. My first trip there, I stayed in the tower section, gave the names of chicas at check-in, who I knew would be visiting me at the hotel. One chica came at night and the front desk checked the name on her identification card (cedula) , with the name that I had given, she was able to enter my room. Another woman visited with her sister in the daytime, we went straight to the pool and from the pool, both women walked near the lobby and entered the elevators without being stopped and visited my room. Garden section security would not allow me to enter with anyone during the day (non-hardcore women) , I didn't bother to try to enter at night at the garden section (tower section rooms are better).
Some pros who work the area near the Jaragua casino might have an arrangement with security, where they are allowed to enter the hotel. Some guys enter with pros at the Jaragua and don't get stopped.
If you have already booked at the Jaragua and if you can't enter with a pro there, you could rent a short term room at the Hotel Navarro. Short term room around 800 pesos ($20US) , full day is around 1400-1500 pesos ($36US to $38US). Navarro is 4-5 blocks from the Marriott Jaragua hotel. Easy, safe walk. Navarro hotel is on avenida independencia and is across the street and a little east of club 305. One block from the Navarro is the popular and very busy restaurant Villar Hermanos. Villar Hrnos. Sells hot food to eat there (sold by weight) , sandwiches, bakery items, fried empanada type food, good coffee. They also sell filtered water (large quantities) from a new, glass front building that is next to hotel mystik. Hotel Navarro is one block east of Villar Hrnos. Restaurant.
Many p4p venues now have rooms on site, so if you can't get a pro into the Jaragua, you will have the option, to complete the deed on site at various venues. The nearest cabana to the Jaragua is on the malecon, about 10 minutes away (during non-rush hour traffic).
Don't change money in the street in santo domingo (after you pick up your checked luggage from the baggage carousel at the SDQ airport, there is a bank just past customs which gives good rates, also Duty Free is open near the baggage carousel, good prices for arriving passengers). There are Banks and money exchange offices in santo domingo, to safely exchange money. Some ATM machines only give money when you choose Spanish as the transaction language. Always ask the price before entering any taxi. If you go to a place like GBP and the taxi driver has never been there, probably best not to invite him in (there are some honest and good taxi drivers and there are some taxi drivers that act like scoundrels). There are members who can recommend taxi drivers; BoricuaOnline, Carrib, Mardnonius, Grandnash, Oldkool and others.
You can buy a SIM card for an unlocked GSM cell phone at the Claro store in the SDQ airport (or at other Claro stores in santo domingo) for 150 pesos (claro store in the SDQ airport takes US dollars, $5US for a SIM card at the airport, in case you don't have pesos). New cell phones with a SIM card and minutes can be purchased at Claro stores for under 1000 pesos (less than $25US).
Apolo Taxi; (809) 537-0000. Most taxi fares to get to venues should be around 150 pesos to 200 pesos (around $4US to $5US). I always bring some one dollar bills to use as tips. Many restaurants will give the bill in pesos, dollars and euros.
Most of the rental car companies have offices very close to the Marriott Renaissance Jaragua Hotel. You will see them when you walk around on Avendia Independencia. One way rentals should be no problem. Caribe Tours and Metro Bus, both have modern, nice buses.
At the airport if you take a taxi, sometimes you can get a better rate if you talk to a taxi driver who is dropping off passengers on the second floor exterior part of the airport (for passengers who will be departing the country). Always ask the rate for any taxis. A2B transfers offers shared transfers, usually for less money than taxis, you can make a reservation online at their website.
You can exit the rear gate for the Marriott Jaragua Hotel to enter onto Avenida Independencia, (across the street from that gate will be Manolos restaurant open 24/7) , and about four blocks to the right will be Avenida Pasteur.

Before this gets too confusing. Original poster said "pontoon bridge" probably the floating bridge between Villa Duarte and Colonial Zone. The winding streets under a bridge probably Mella Bridge / Mexico Avenue area. Botanical Gardens / Proceres / North Kennedy is near Los Rios and Arroyo Hondo.
My advice. Save your vacation time and go to Conde or Mall and do same thing original poster did.

You will find some cuties here.
There is another UTESA near UASD on Jose Contreras and Gomez. Many girls go to the Mocdonals and colmados by it.

I wonder if there are hostels in DR. In Colombia this area has grown fast and there are now a network of hostels covering the whole country.
I also wonder if one can rent an apartment for 1-2 months.
I speak very good Spanish.
I Go for the girls of course, but also to know a beautiful country.
One girl I chatted with from DR said there still is much violence.
I'm happy with daytime activities and maybe going out for dinner in a "good area". Nightlife, while being drunk and taking a false cab should be the biggest risk I think.
I read that taxis are not formal yellow / black like in most countries, so going buy taxi needs precautions, maybe they have radio-taxi companies?
I would be greatful for info. And advise from persons with experiences of any kind, living there, etc.

Ikea store near there and a Harley Davidson motorcycle dealer. Diamond Mall is a small mall just north of Kennedy on Ave. De los Procesores. Some nice homes just north of there that front the Botanical Gardens. The Botanical Gardens are peaceful.

When traveling to the city of Santo Domingo from the Las Americas Airport, [url]http://www.autodromomobil1.com/[/url] You will see on the right a large Mobil 1 sign. That is where the autodromo (car racetrack is located). The drag strip there, seems to be open to anyone, on certain nights (cars, motorcycles and SUVs). More serious racers are there on other days. Avenida Maximo Gomez is a busy street near the courtyard hotel. There are at least two universities on that street (UTESA and APEC) , a United States Consulate, McDonalds, Supermercado Nacional and other business (I drove by a disco on maximo gomez, but didn't go in). Usually Policia Nacional patrolling on Avenida Maximo Gomez. From the Courtyard hotel you will have to drive or take taxis to the venues (you could also walk, I have walked on Maximo Gomez late at night, from the malecon to ave 27 de febrero and never had a problem).
Staying at the Courtyard you might be able to use the pool at the Marriott Jaragua hotel (Jaragua has a bigger pool, with a nice pool deck, courtyard also has a pool). If you wanted to you could probably invite some women to the pool at the Jaragua (there are a few bars inside the jaragua near the pool). Jaragua is much closer to the venues.
The new plaza with the beach (plaza guibia) is half a block east of ave maximo gomez on the malecon (el malecon is also known as Avenida George Washington). The new plaza is a 5 minute drive from the Courtyard by Marriott. The Metro runs under parts of Avenida Maximo Gomez.
