Last night I did a short trawl through the Sutthisan strip again .. dropped by two places, the first one on the left (opposite T-DED 99), and VDO (down the soi on the other side of T-DED).

In the first one I sat in amazement again at how these places are run. It's about as big as 4 Soi Cowboy bars as far as floor space is concerned. I sat there for about an hour, and it looked like there was one or perhaps two other tables occupied, though it may just have been staff. Shortly before I left two fat farang guys came in, they seemed to be quite happy shouting at each other over the blaring RnB, ignoring the rest of the place. Staff (throwbacks, not girls) mostly just lurk, but outnumber the customers at least 3 to 1.

On the long stage, there were never more than two girls dancing. One of the first two was in shape, but all the subsequent ones (about 3 or 4) were fat.

Mamasan was eager to bring me a girl, but the girls were all glum. Not the slightest indication that they'd like to do some earning.

In the Philippines I've wandered into some derelict hole like a rhino with earache, and within half an hour I'm feeling at home, not noticing the grime, and having fun with a couple of girls who looked like trolls when I came in, but who are now feeling just fine. These places at Sutthisan would make the undead seem sunny by comparison.

This is all just purely subjective, so don't mind me too much.

VDO was a bit better. Many more girls and customers. I spotted a sweet though rather drawn-looking one, and allowed her to be seated with me. I wasn't quite halfway through my beer when the cops came to close the place down. They usually go until 2am at least, but just after 1am the lights came on and my bill arrived (350baht for 1 beer, ice, a plate of chips I didn't order, and the time of the girl who was sitting with me). Against my better judgement I said OK, I'd take her short time (1500 flat rate). It was a true GFE if you imagine that it's your first time, and you're doing it on a dare. Very very shy, keeps on turning off the light, keeps on running down herself (ugly, no boobs, skin too dark, etc etc). Likes kissing, but freezes up for anything more. I would agree 100%, although occasionally you do get girls who "choose" you just because they are excellent at doing that and making you feel like they have been waiting for you. I go to several massage places up on Petchaburi. I never take the papasan's advice, especially after they have told me certain things about the girls (how long they have worked, where they are from, etc) and then i've gone to the room and heard a completely different story. I've found that this scenario, sometimes, is a scam created by the girl. She thinks she can act shy and scarred, and hopefully the guy will be convinced and empathetic handing over the cash with little or no service provided. I'm not saying you were scammed, but one should be very assertive if this happens. However my hotel was in Patpong area, and one morning was on Surowong to go to an ATM about 8am , got to ATM and theres a really scuzzy looking LB standing near to ATM. I know this happens. But I was affected by the fact that she was actually very visibly bruised on her neck and shoulders, she says by a previous customer. She wasn't trying to rush me, and we were taking quite long. When I did leave off the light, she became more affectionate, coming to cuddle up to me again. Also, she didn't know the hotel where we went, though it's just down the road from the bar. There were other things that made me think she's pretty green. So in this case I really don't think she's an operator.

If I was less tired, hadn't had some beers, in short was infused with infectuous good humour instead of susceptible to despondence and self-loathing, I'm willing to believe it would have been possible to turn the session around.
