I think we are going to have to set up a "de-briefing" station at POP and require that all single American men go through it before being allowed to enter back into the US. It would be for their own safety and it's purpose would be to remind gents that although you are at the "Six Flags" of the Caribbean the "rides" can be somewhat addictive, but you cannot take the rides with you back home, lol. Another monger said it best long ago: "Would you send Six Flags a money transfer every month long after visiting their theme park (Western Union Novios)?"

Five people at a VIP table for a top artist with a name brand bottle of spirits included would normally cost at least 4000 pesos.

They were charging 400 to 600 pesos per person just for admission to general areas for Frank Reyes and Zacarías Ferreira concerts three years ago (drinks not included) so what he paid doesn't seem outrageous.

All vodka tastes the same to me but I am not a drinker. Sure they may have given him some generic stuff but that could equally apply at any bar in the DR (or elsewhere for that matter).

In Passions in Santiago, I visited the place before (same night I had seen Mr. Pooter in Puerto Plata) midnight and many of the tables had bottles of cranberry juice on the tables, for the clients who would come in later and order bottles of vodka.

For a group of 4 or more people, might be cheaper to buy a bottle in a bar in DR, rather than pay for individual drinks. Belvedere and Grey Goose vodkas are popular in the DR. Some vodkas are smoother than others, if you want to lose your mind for a little while, vodka will help take you there.

I'm not a drinker either, and it seems to me that all the marketing of expensive wines and spirits is basically a scam, because all alcoholic drinks contain the same ethyl alcohol and have the same effect on your brain. As for the VIP table, it is also the case that any time you pay a lot of money for a drink, you are basically paying for the table, the chair, the ambience, the music, the view, or something other than the cheap industrially produced alcoholic drink.

Actually 400-600 pesos for admission to Frank Reyes seems like good value when you compare it to the US$200 per ticket my buddy paid to see an aging Paul McCartney with his wife and 2 kids last year, especially as he had to leave half way through because the kids were so bored. A lot of working Dominicans would have been able to afford to see Reyes, who-if he writes his own songs-is a pretty talented individual in his prime.

A lot of what you said applies to the situation with me and my novia, but I would never call it love in the real sense.

We are being set up for some kind of permanent relationship which includes financial support.

Don't get me wrong, it can be a beautiful thing as long as you keep it affordable, but it ain't love!

Now I am a bit older and a lot more tired it takes a group of friends to nag me into joining them. Unless you pay the VIP prices to reserve a table near the stage you have to arrive at 9.00pm to get a good view, then have to wait for anything up to four hours for the star to appear. That means buying rounds of drinks I don't really need (being, like you, a very moderate drinker) and suffering the invariably insanely loud and distorting sound systems, so I usually have a headache by the time the main act starts.

So most of my bachata listening is done at home via CDs nowadays. I would make an exception for my all-time favorite, Raulín Rodríguez, as I have always managed to miss him on the relatively few occasions he has appeared on the North Coast.

But I have come to the conclusion that the Golden Age of Bachata is well past. For me that was around 2002 to 2007.

i take a nap and start my night at nine o'clock at el flow and go until at least 3. i can confidently say that on a typical night between the above mentioned clubs there are 300 plus girls, every size, shape, and color. now maybe in its heyday there would have been 500 girls but wtf how many girls does one need to choose from?

if a guy can't find what he wants here you have serious fucking problems. as i am writing this the guy at the next table over from me summed it up perfect "sosua is disneyland for men". i couldn't have put it better myself.

saying sosua is dying or dead is like having the red sox go 25-0 to begin the season and then saying they suck when they lose their first game, fucking stupid really.
