I rarely buy more than one drink at a time, but when I do it is usually for a friend of a gal that that I like. In Cebu, where there seems to be less turnover (I've known a few gals for four or five years) I will buy an old "friend" a drink, get her recommendation, and then buy the fresher gal a drink. Sometimes I will buy an older or uglier gal a drink if she is the friend of a newbie who seems shy or nervous. Everyone's happy. I guess this is very similar to CM's "waitress" strategy.

IMHO, AC is the perfect place for the first visit to PI. All the bars that a first time visitor needs to see are laid out on Fields walking street and Perimeter Road. Getting into the groove is easy. The girls are very friendly and it is 1500p for LT in most of the smaller bars. It is totally safe as long as you stay on the strip and take trikes back and forth from Perimeter to Fields. AC is at least as safe as Pattaya for the first time visitor. Manila on the other hand requires a little more care. A lot of bars are in poor neighborhoods with lots of beggars and potential thieves. Be careful and watch your back in the neighborhoods around MBC, EDSA Complex and AF1.

I stayed in Makati and security was everywhere. I felt pretty safe. Havana Cafe right in Greenbelt 3 across the street from my hotel was 100% safe. I paid 2000p for LT there. In Greenbelt 3, from the two coffee shops on either side of Havana Café, there was an interesting mix of girls. Burgos is a little dicier but still a lot of fun and safe if you know what you are doing and don't start wandering to far afield.

So back to AC: the small party time bars are great and a lot of fun. It is completely safe unless you start behaving foolishly and wander off the strip at night in the dark. Don't try to make friends with the local Filipinos. Mind your own business and keep your eyes on the prize - the girls. You won't have a problem. My favorite bars were Gecko, Dirty Duck, Lollipops, Body Shop (on Real Street one block over from Fields) , and Emotions on Perimeter. There were a ton of bars I just did not have time for. I made the mistake of befriending a local that I met while walking around on my first trip to the Philippines and got scammed (fortunately not bad). Note: this was in Manila, not AC. Never had a problem in AC, as by then I learned to just stick with the girls.
