I made my first trip down last month with many return trips planned for the future and I was getting a bit worried. Honestly, I felt perfectly safe during my entire stay. I walked most of the time or hopped a motocancho (sp?) to get around if it would have taken more than 10 minutes walking to get there. Heck, at the Popular, there's a guard posted up outside by the ATM at night (the one near the square and just north of NG and the farmacia) with a shotgun.

Mongers who don't get drunk, or otherwise go out of their way to draw attention to themselves or insist on having the last word in disputes with locals, have little to fear.

I was mugged myself with a knife to my throat by two guys but that because I was walking home up an unlit lane in a rough area after midnight despite numerous warnings from my condos manager and other residents not to do that sort of thing. Stupidly, I thought I knew better and I was lucky to get away with the loss of 80 pesos (although I was carrying over 12000 and a half-decent camera). I learned my lesson cheaply.

Use more common sense that I did on that occasion and the DR (even Sosúa, which attracts lowlifes from the rest of the DR) is no more dangerous than other places, and a lot less dangerous than some.

I made a travel announcement but it hasn't been posted yet (no a SM) but I'll be in Sosua from 4/5. 4/7. Yes, short but I have the ability to go down more often than most would so I choose to go on off days. Anyway, I emailed ahead for reservations at the Europa and the guy lady quoted me $40USD / night which I found to be pretty good considering NG is asking for $60. My only issue is this. I've heard of NG chicas through reading reports. I did stay at NG the last time which was my first time there. I saw some girls but none looked like they were working. Granted this was my first trip so maybe I didn't ask the right people the right questions. How do I go about asking for a NG chica? IS it as plain as BB?

Basically, I know NG. The free hot breakfast was great, the pool is great and the location is pretty damn central. I just don't want to go to Europa to save $20 / night and be disappointed. Any thoughts on one versus the other?

They have apartments on the other side which are around $30 / Night. Some apartments are good. There is a small pool there also. It is nice and secluded with full security at night. I am sure if you tell the lady $35 / Night for the rooms upstairs paying cash upfront she will agree.

Maybe 5 minutes walking distance. I feel like I walked past it a few times while I was down there. If I'm not mistaken, it isn't too far off from NG, the farmacia, Popular Banco, and the square?

The way I look at it, that's an extra $800RD or $1500RD saved for those 2 days. That's pretty much an extra chica ST! LOL

The girls hanging around NG are strictly freelancers and do not work for NG, they just are allowed to sit by the pool. There are usually only a few and they come and go and by early evening they usually all head to Pedro Clisante or go home. Remember, you are a two minute walk to all the girls you need or want on Pedro Clisante.

If one lives in virtual "vacation squalor" just to save $20 per night, then perhaps one should not go on vacation?

There is too many more options for 40 dollars like Sea Breeze Hotel or the one behind Passions.
