My basic understanding is that the hotel is keeping the ID of the visitor to prevent certain unwarranted situations (visitor creates ruckus, thefts etc.) between the hotel guest and the visitor. So it is probably designed to assist the hotel guest (and hotel too). I recall few instances now, about such collection of visitor's ID by the hotel staff.

One was in BKK near Asoke pre-Covid time, the hotel staff collected the ID and put it in a plastic tray after collecting it from the visitor, who accompanied with me. Most of the time, I come down with the lady to see her off. The receptionist then took out the pertinent tray from below and kept it on the reception desk. The lady picked her ID and left.

Other one was in Pattaya, the hotel staff asked my room number, followed by the phone number of the visitor, who's joining me. The staff note down those detailed on a post it note. Then collects the ID from the lady. Stick that note on to the ID. Secure it at the reception. The ID was handed over to the lady before she left.

In some hotels, they don't collect the ID from the visitors during the day time but after 9/10 PM ID cards are collected and kept at the reception. I'm not sure whether the hotels in Thailand logs such details in their systems, unless the hotel group has specific policy to record such details. Additionally, I don't know whether they store the visitor ID details are kept along with hotel guest's information.

I am sure some veteran hobbyists can throw more light on this matter. Happy and safe punting. Cheers.

[/QUOTE]I don't think that any decent, or even not so decent, hotel gives this kind of information to a third party. Not by phone anyway. I think your wife would have to go to your hotel in person, whisper at the reception what she wants, and hand over a couple of hundred bahts, to get this information.

There used to be a hotel with, I think, the word white in its name near Suk. They had women on staff to service clients. It is long gone but are there other hotels with it's specialty service?

There was such a place but I forgot the name.

The Fraser is a 4. 5 star hotel and has large rooms (suites) with balconies. The hotel is very quest friendly but there is a "walk of shame" past the front desk to get to the elevators. Everybody who works at this hotel is super friendly does not give a shit who you are with, but a significant proportion of the Fraser's guests are Muslim middle eastern families visiting BKK for medical reason (there is a hospital nearby) and these fat matriarchs smell bad from perfume abuse and they won't even get into an elevator with a farang let alone a farang and his girls. There is no "walk of shame" at this hotel because the front desk is located at the far-right side of the lobby. Just walk into the lobby a few feet, turn left, and you are in front of the elevators. Very discreet. Nobody will see you or care even if they do.

So, according to your criteria, unless a balcony is really important to you (reefer), and provided you are getting a good deal at the JW, I think the JW will suit your plans best.[/QUOTE]Hi Meussiurs MaccatheFree and Axel Hyst, I really appreciate your feedback. It will be the JW then. I want to minimize the walk of shame, and more importantly, avoid any overly perfumed and covered family matriarch. I just want to avoid being labeled as a "dirty old man", LOL!

I'm making arrangements for a trip in January. I want to get a guest friendly hotel near Nana but don't want it to be super noisy or crazy. I'd like a nice place but I'm not looking for JW or other 5 star stuff. I'm looking at the following and interested in recent experiences or reputation. Thanks in advance.

Omni Tower Sukhumvit Nana: this place is looking good for location and price.

Royal Ivory Sukhumvit Nana: I found this place through this forum and am curious how it compares.

Marriott.

It's a "serviced apartment" place, so the basic layout features a living room, kitchen (with washing machine) and separate bedroom. Bathrooms have a tub plus stall-sized shower. Excellent water pressure and temperature. Modest buffet breakfast. Nice pool on the roof. If you go out the back door of the Shama and cut through a short snicket, you end up on the west side of Soi 4 next to Fitzgerald's Bar.

The Shama also offers two-bedroom and three-bedroom suites. Which makes it popular with families -- many from the Gulf states. If you're enjoying the night life, you'll seldom see them. They see the sights by day, splash around in the pool late in the afternoon and then disappear into their suites. After dark the lobby is like a library. Despite the family clientele, the Shama welcomes joiners, with the usual stop to surrender ID.

Minor nitpicks: Not many English language channels on the TV. Living room furniture is sized for smaller folks, and the last time I was there it was showing signs of wear. Bonus: Equidistant to BTS stops at Phloen Chit & Nana. Just steps from the Villa Market & Bully's pub.

Royal Ivory Sukhumvit Nana: I found this place through this forum and am curious how it compares.[/QUOTE]I often stay at the Lohas Residence about two thirds of the way down Soi 4 (Soi Nana) it's guest friendly, about a 5 ish minute walk from Nana Plaza and it's quiet as it's just far enough away.

Stayed there about 3 weeks ago, was £45 a night with a ok breakfast (which I only made once) you can get in / out from Soi 4 or Soi 2 (where reception is) which is very handy if you want to avoid the main lobby or avoid Soi 4.

The room I had was massive, it even had a washing machine which was handy, had Netflix (got to use your own account) 2 decent AC units, decent water pressure / hot water etc.

Has an 8.0 on [URL]Booking.com[/URL], loads of reviews, it's even LB friendly (not my thing but each to their own) as someone asked that question in the public questions on [URL]Booking.com[/URL]

So many options in BKK, we're all spoilt for choice, and it's not just hotel rooms.
