I know what I'm talking about!
As for your comment that, in Korea, it is "very common" to see a man hitting a women in public, all I'd say is, you are watching wayyyy too many movies.
I dare say that my 11 years of living in Korea makes me a knowledgeable individual on the subject. I have personally witnessed the act of Korean men beating women in public. I was unable to do anything about it, because, as a foreigner, I would have landed myself in jail for attempting to protect the woman. I have also been witness to many accounts of blatant rudeness on the part of Koreans, both men and women. These are a people that feel they are better than all other nationalities because of their "5000 years of history," and they will proudly state that fact. I'm not saying that everyone of them is an asshole. But a large majority is. As Frank4220 pointed out, if you can make a friend with one of them, you will most likely be invited along to drink and take part in all activities of the outing at their expense. But don't think that you are going to walk up to them in their group and expect to be immediately invited to join in. Even in California, I once entered a bar that catered to Koreans. Everyone in the bar just glared at me as I walked in, and the bar maid asked "Why are you in here? You should go some other place to drink." Try to convince me they are not rude!
And, by the way, I was married to one of them for 22 years. So I have seen it from a completely different perspective than the average monger.
