Over the last few days, I've reached out to multiple indies from MR, but the conversation always reached a dead end when we come to the negotiations. I really not want to overpay, so when she makes the first offer, I always revert with the standard rate you read in the forum. Almost always, the response is, "That's too low, sorry" and the conversation just stops there.

Would be great if you could please share tips on how to negotiate over WA / Text and not overpay. Thank you!

Spoiler alert: Negotiations are usually successful over a series of voice or video interactions. This may sound cliched but patience and empathy pays. Though it's business, building rapport and getting personal is part of the art.

Don't start with the financial payoff, even when it's the first thing SPs want to finalize. Don't reveal your desperation while assessing the SP's urgency and maturity. It takes a while to understand tacit needs and build trust.

Know which of your "must have" and "nice to have" services can be leveraged. For example, if you don't want DFK or BBJ from a SP, use that to your advantage. Though rimming or anal may not be written on the menu, do not assume it is unavailable at the quoted price.

Repeated business and additional business (from your referrals) can also sweeten the deal.

Remain calm and respectful. Avoid confrontational language and don't burn bridges even if the transaction did not materialise. A SP who rejects your offer today can accept the same days later.

Telling an indie this-is-the-standard-price-your-friends-have-paid isn't compelling, because it commoditizes her. Making her feel unique helps, though some of us will argue that massaging her ego will spiral her price.
