First of all, you might be paying up front for your stay.
You might lose money if you cut your stay short.
Cancellation and changes can cost you, and have earlier cut-off times for doing so (than booking direct with the hotel.)
Refunds can take a week.
Sometimes they might quote a rate (non-inclusive of taxes and booking fees) that turns out to be equal to (or higher) than the hotel's all-inclusive rates. If it is equal to booking directly with the hotel, but you have to prepay everything and have earlier cancellation times (and fees) it's not a deal.
Agoda is a great search engine for finding hotels. But once you find one you're interested in, check out other deals elsewhere too. And pay close attention to the terms for taxes, cancellation fees, refunds, etc.

As far as your other bar question. There are probably 100 or more bars in the areas you are considering. It is kind of a personal choice, isn't it. My best suggestion is to walk around and find one that fits what you are looking for.

All in all a pretty good afternoon option as long as you don’t mind the final expenditure: 600 barfine + 1500 for service + the necessary couple drinks + the possible tip + the possible short time hotel = 2500/3000 baht, keeping in mind that in the afternoon you can’t do long-time take outs.
For less than that you can do a DD girl next door of comparable looks but infinitely better sex skills.
Interesting bit: the staff gets fined 5 baht for every minute of lateness.

A little less entertaining then how I remembered it from last year visit: on two different days, weekday and weekend, both in the afternoon and around midnight, there were very few customers. Some of the girls and ladyboys do their best to liven up the street with the soi 6 trademark calling/running/holding, but there’s only so much they can do.
I had a drink here and there, but the only 2 bars which not only had girls in a uniform but also made an effort to present them well, were LISA (close to Beach Rd) and SAIGON (close to Second Rd).
Personally I wish that more of the girls would make an effort to stand up and let you asses them properly, but then again with few exceptions, and cost aside, I think you should never choose soi 6 ladies based on their appearance, but based on them being a little crazy and/or willing to do anal. You can check my choice in the pic below.
I remember reading somewhere that soi 6 can be a bit rough/dangerous at night: while I can’t conclusively dispute that, both times I showed up around midnight (bars close at 1am) I felt safe and couldn’t see anything dodgy going on. It must be said that I was sober.
A note: walking towards the beach in the late afternoon you’ll be blinded by the sun and won’t be able to leisurely check out the ladies.

And if you exaggerate a bit you can always take a “pleasant”, digestive stroll along the Beach Rd all the way to Walking St.
