Its easier than you think, and harder than you think. Some girls will lay up with you on the first night, especially if they've gotten to know you in chat / cam. Others will require woo-ing once you have boots on the ground, especially province girls (terribly shy and afraid of the embarrassment of sleeping with a gringo then getting dumped). In fact, many girls will boldly lie to you in chat (culture), promising sex, then she will back out when they meet you (further, shy province girls might even refuse to meet you once you get there).

And yes, moving to a country I never visited before. It's a bit of a personal challenge as well as relying on second hand experience, which sometimes does work (learning from the successes and mistakes of others).

Comments about hot girls being plentiful and ready to play in Davao is one person's view only (DS). Every ISG member you ask will give you a slightly different view.

I have lived in the Philippines for 18 years, with a little over 2 of those years spent in Davao City.

I would rate Davao City very highly as a good place to live, but I certainly would NOT base my decision on the availability of girls for hire and / or fun because the variability in this factor is wide and changes from week to week. Speaking personally, I found that Davao probably had the least "available" girls. There were lots around, but they were not in the game.

An even worse strategy is to base your decision on where to settle on the photos that you see on FC. Pics on dating sites are usually doctored or taken 10 years earlier or not even pics of the girl herself.

I suggest you come here for (say) 6 - 8 weeks. Spend 10 days to 2 weeks in each of Manila, Cebu, Davao and somewhere else (Cagayan de Oro; Iloilo, Bacolod for example) and then decide where you might settle.

As I talked about "midlife crisis" and such things, I have unplugged my life and I am now a "location independent" kind of guy (Which was HARD to do, but right now I'll enjoy it however long it lasts).

If I don't like the PI, I can just get the hell out of there on the earliest flight. It's not as crazy as it seems (unless I REALLY have no clue what I'm in for, which is possible).

Regarding Davao, I tend to agree with RK's remarks more than I do with Dragon Slayer's quote: "Davao has more board feet of prime pussy than any City on Earth!". Although, of course, I respect his opinion. I can sit in a busy mall for an hour or two and not see one, what I would consider, prime pussy. Not any that's available to me, anyway. It doesn't stack up anywhere near what you could find in some Latin American countries for example. Furthermore, most of these girls over the age of 18 are chubby already. And if you want big breasts, for sure she will be fat. Most of these girls, as RK said, are conservative, focused on their studies, busy working, or just otherwise not in the game. It's easy to get a bunch of phone numbers, but not easy to get them to go out. These girls may be friendly and giggle, but are scared of being alone with a gringo for the most part. And as WC correctly wrote, even on the dating sites there's nothing close to a guarantee.

In terms of gorging on fresh seafood every night, there was allot better choice of seafood in my home place. I don't know if this is unique to Davao, or if it's in Philippine tradition. But in Davao, there's less and less food choices as opposed to more. There used to be a Mexican place-It's gone. A few of the places I enjoyed have closed. Morriscos in SM, Ronoldo's, Picabellos, Spirale in Abreeza. Even Claude's has taken things off the menu. I almost had a heart attack when I saw that Bon Appetit was (temporarily) closed.

I'd suggest come have a look first. See if being on the ground breathing diesel smoke, hearing "out of stock sir", getting repeated "I'll text you if I have a tym" texts, and hearing Christmas music for 4 months is the same dream you visioned, as you point and click on pretty faces.

".[/QUOTE]I can fully relate to the notion of just wanting to get the hell out of wherever you are--geographically and psychologically--and wanting to relocate to anywhere that sounds like a significant improvement. If there are no drastic risks, and if you're free to move on yet again if your first destination doesn't live up to expectations, then the downside isn't very steep. On the other hand Red Kilt, Sam and Westcoast make valid points and I'm not sure that Davao is the ideal first-time destination in the country.

I've now lived in Davao for 11 years, and I find it a great place to live, but I'm in a settled relationship, am not at all motivated by the endless chase for new women, and I agree wholeheartedly with those who say that this is not an ideal or even a particularly good venue for that avocation. For one thing, the commercial venues--bars and discos--are few and those that do exist are fairly seedy and not much fun. For another, compared to Manila or Cebu, this is a more conservative city, and though it's got more than a million inhabitants, it remains in many respects a small town, which means there's less anonymity here for both foreigners and their target population. This doesn't mean that pursuit of the hobby isn't possible, but it's surely more difficult. Finally, this is a place that takes a while to get to know and thus requires some investment of time. The expat community here has grown exponentially during my time here, but again, most of the expats whom I know are in longer term relationships.

I echo the suggestion of moving around for a while before you settle in a quasi-permanent destination. I'd start with Manila if for no other reason than to indulge in a two or three week shagging frenzy if that's your primary motivation. It's easy, the choices are endless, and the anonymity is ensured. Since Manila is huge, you can also easily take two or three weeks exploring different areas of the place. Once you've finished there, then move on perhaps to Cebu, Davao, maybe Cagayan de Oro or the Visayas, all of which have different characters.

It's got a new power plant coming on line in a month or two, and that should eliminate any residual spottiness in the Power sector, it's got decent health care options for most normal problems, and it's a well governed / managed city.

Thanks guys for all the valid points, and I'm not going to be stubborn about this. I'll give Davao a few weeks and if it doesn't live up to expectation, Cebu is an hour away.

I would have chosen Cebu, but my impression is that Davao is a better choice because: (1) There are less foreigners, so not much competition for normal girls, (2) It is cheaper than Cebu, (3) Because of the mayor, it is probably the safest place in the Philippines.

If getting girls were easier in Cebu, or it cost the same to live there I would have chosen Cebu, no doubt. Every Pinoy I ask tells me the most beautiful women are the Cebuanas AND in FC, the Cebuanas look MUCH better than Dabaweas. But let's roll the dice and see where this thing will take us.
