I have an iPhone 5 now (AT&T), and I will be getting my new iPhone 6 Plus this Friday. On Wednesday, Sep. 24, I am flying to the Philippines for 2 weeks. I am planning to sell my old iPhone 5, which will be unlocked. I have heard that the market for used iPhones is very hot in Asia, especially since now there are many sellers in the US due to the saturation caused by release of iPhone 6.

QUESTION: Do you think I can get a better price for my used iPhone in the Philippines or in the US? If Philippines would be better, where would I likely get a decent price? Any thoughts?

The girl stealing it got a heavy meet with the phil police in which I know one person with high ranks. Find my Ipad was working surprisingly well and the girl was into a situation she did not handled that well.

RG.[/QUOTE]If you're staying in Makati you can check out the second-hand mobile shops at Makati Square (formerly Makati Cinema Square) on Pasong Tamo (aka Chino Roces) near Arnaiz St (aka Libertad). If you're staying in Ermita / Malate check out Harrison Plaza. You should be able to determine the local market's value of your mobile. Apple's network partners in the Philippines, Smart Communications and Globe Telecom, have yet to announce the availability of both iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in their roster of devices bundled with postpaid LTE plans. Nonetheless, I believe the handsets will arrive locally in October or November 2014.

So, check out the prices in US, then check 'em in Manila, and decide where to sell.

Or did the girl fess up?

Hi, first of all you can not sell AT&T locked phone without unlocking to be used by the local carriers. AT&T has an unlocking website and they do give you all kind of reason why they should not unlock the devices. Last week I went on and on with them regarding unlocking a Nokia 2520 tablet and no positive results after 10 phone calls, and several attempts. Now AT&T site locked me out for too many tries.

Selling an unlocked phone. In Makati or Cebu (Elizabeth Mall), you can get an above fair value for it. However, it needs to be unlocked.

BTW, AT&T will try to sell you a roaming package.

Morale of the story: Never buy a locked / contract phone.

There are two different version of IOS Phone unlocking.

#1 Carrier unlock = permanent and will not affect any warranty.

#2 Sof tunlock: Jailbreak and software unlocking with a pwn. This will go bakc to locking after any type of software udate. Also if you update the baseband, you may brick the phone.

I hope I made clear to you and others.

So, most of the unlockers do use software unlocking not carrier unlock. Carrier unlock only can be done via whitelist / blacklist method. I tunes access will be required.

I told them no, the rep tried again, but as this was during the a 30 day renewal trial period. I flatly told her no again and told her that if she tried to dissuade me again I would return the phone and switch to Verizon or AT&T. Within a few minutes they did their thing and then transferred me to Apple who had to finish the process. Hung up with them, re-booted the phone and had to enter a PUK code. It only took about 20-25 minutes total.

RG, instead of selling the phone why not use it to barter with one of those over priced hotties in EDSA or on Burgos; or for a multi day / night session with another lady?

I am a teacher on Skype and need wired internet. I have read some things about Internet in the Philippines. Most very negative. I really want to live there. I need at least 4 MB wired. Of course 10 would be better. People talk about 'fast' internet. Your fast could be my slow. So real understanding of the numbers is important. I really want to come and live there. Makati? Or wherever. Anyone who can contribute would really be helping me and I am sure others would like some real info. Thanks for any interest. I love ISG people.

Spend some time here finding out about the place, its people & the financial realities. I live in Makati, in a newish condo in a middle-class barangay, and my wired Internet thruput is dreadful during the evening and weekends (impossible to watch anything on youtube, for instance), but this is largely due to my landlord providing me mid-level service. Since you depend on a video stream for your livelihood you'll require synchronous service rather than asynchronous. Aside from putting flipflops on the ground, your best bet is to join an expat forum and post this question to the community. And of course check the ISPs to see what's on offer - read the fine print because their fastest service is often limited to certain areas.
