I have just returned from a 2-day Dubai trip. It was quite enjoyable except for one encounter with an Iranian girl described in the later part of this FR.

Yes, it's not worth it to read ALL, but certainly any newbie should read the most recent 10, 15 pages, quick scan of each post to see if it's applicable to you, plus the ROD (reports of distinction) thread (this not directed specifically at you - just general advice).

After all, someone has to answer posted questions, and it gets tedious answering the same over and over again. Besides, a lot of answers can be found in posted FR's, which is why said FR's are appreciated.

There are many avenues to [i]success[/i] here, most all can be found by some simple study.

My personal advice is to hit some of the bars first (which bar based on reading which has the type of girl - read ethnic group - you're looking for) before hitting some of the more rare (read higher priced) avenues. Those are for when you get bored, but I never got bored in the bars. I don't object to the higher prices charged by the agencies and their like, there is a surcharge for convenience, but given it is so easy without them, I never bothered. It's not exactly cheap here, but, it is "reasonable", especially considering the part of the world you're in.

For me, the risk was never worth it. Besides, I always made sure than on any trip out, on my return, I bought the limit at the ARRIVALS duty free. Plus, many girls would offer to do the same for me while on their visa runs (though I don't know if "visa runs" still happen anymore).

I go there with a friend who has a liquor license. They stamp the bill after checking the booze license, they stamp the bill to say that the booze was bought legally. I would never risk it other wise!

As I know anyone with legal booze in the car is OK to the sharjah cops, as long as there are no open bottles & the people didn't consume any alcohol.

You too should stock up for Ramadan.

Been to Dubai to sort out some property issues last week, I always keep my mongering needs in consideration while travelling, so did the same this time. Flew there on Thursday afternoon, (by the way its just a 1:40 hrs flight from my city)

Anyways, stayed at the four points sheraton, green (as reported earlier) good hotel, good service, overall good value for money.

Day 1 (Thursday)

Maybe the laws have changed, but it was my understanding it was illegal to bring booze into dxb that you didn't buy there. However, to be honest, I never bothered buying booze at any of the package stores.

They don't ask questions at Barracuda and as long as you have an alcohol licence you will not have trouble passing Sharjah. What you do have to remember though is to stay within the limited amount (typically 12 - 1500 dirhams) on you licence.
