It took two experienced men about two weeks of day & night labor to complete. I think it cost me P10 k for labor. Sounds like a lot but its incredibly tedious labor intensive exacting work. Materials were a shsde over P60 k so all in up a shade over P70 k for new net for this boat. I purchased all equipment in person.

I was 'advised' by my excitable pinoy friends to purchase a 30 hp Honda motor for the boat. Cost P30 k.

I over rode their protests & boight a 14 hp Loncin (chinese) for P13.5 k.

I'm glad I did. This motor is more than enough powerful & good quality for the price. Intetestingly you can buy compact 14 hp diesel motors that weigh about the same for P14.5 k I will try one of these next time as diesel would be ideal for this application.

to all of you who depend on reasonable internet connections, a word of warning. it appears that one of the few international cables that connect this place to civilization has been cut, with the result that the normally deficient connections have been reduced, albeit intermittently, to something resembling a waxed string and a cambells soup can. for example, my purchase today of a cp airline ticket, which normally takes me 5 minutes, today took the better part of an hour. one article i read said that singapore has access to more than 20 cables, so the unavailability of one has barely affected the country's connection speed. i doubt that this backward excuse for a country is connected by more than three or four.

Don't know how many of you follow the daily news here, but recently the headlines have been dominated by alarms over the massive, evidently pervasive corruption of the police, particularly in the higher echelons of the department. The stories have highlighted everything from police involvement in robbery, kidnapping and extortion rings to more general ineptitude. Of course in typical Philippine style, the PNP chief, who lives in a million dollar house and drives a $90,000 vehicle, hasn't been charged, refuses to resign, and promises to do better. Plus ça change, plus que la même chose. (The more things change, the more they remain the same.).
