Pattaya: 3 to 4, 000 baht a month in and around soi buakaow and south Pattaya road.

BKK: 4 to 5, 000 baht a month for starters a bit deeper in the sois off sukhumvit, shop house types.

BKK better to find students.

I have faced discrimination in lot of parts of world, UK, USA, Germany, Netherland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Japan, I can name some more countries too.

I am not referring to discrimination in mongering activities but in all speheres, bus queue, Railway stations, airports, restaurants, Tiity bars, etc.

I guess may be some of my bretheren have created a bad name and image.

Having said that, after staying few days or after a meal, or a visit to a Mongering Place, the behaviour towards me has changed, not that I do anything extra, but just normal behaviour.

I still have not figured out, why is the discrimination and after a visit why do not such establishments shun me, rather they welcome me.

I have personally seen entire lots of American Blacks and Indians treated exceptionally well in all of the Marriotts I have stayed at (Bangkok, Phuket, and Pattaya). In each case, the blacks / indians were well presented well educated and civil bunch. One black I talked to is a physician from North Carolina and actually owned stock in Marriott. When I doubted him. He logged into an online account (Scott Trade?) and pulled it up on his laptop. Said he only stays at Marriott hotels when he visits Thailand. I like Marriott also (very safe / secure). But I don't like their costs / prices.

I stayed in one my work put me up in for around 13000 baht per month back in 04, but looking at this site I realize even that was a ripoff. I will admit that the Indians I have met have an odor. It is only because of the curry. They probably think I stink also. All of the other accusations about them I have not witnessed. They have always behaved well and are in fact pretty quiet from my observation.

Personally I don't have too much of a problem with them except as indicated many of them in general do smell. I use to work with a guy that was Indian but raised in England and spoke with a English accent. I use to kid him that he was a Indian that thought his shit didn't smell but after a period of working with him on hot days in a close environment I nearly passed out but before I did I told him " a fellas you are killing me have you ever consider using deoderant " he told me and it wasn't the Curry! That it was against his religion." I told him you think your shit don't smell because you are from England but yet you can see no one is as nice as me to work with you! You notice everyone is outside looking in? I told him I would be glad to open one of these suitcases and get you some?"

I told him I'm serious because I have never smell anything so strong and if he don't consider it I'm going back to my old job and that is dumping shit from the aircrafts instead of working with you.

That is how 'frugal' they are in my opinion but that really has no effect on a hotel stay where the rates are established so to turn them away doesn't really make sense to me.

Hygiene differs from different cultures however and It seems that daily bathing (at a minimum) and a daily dose of deodorant is more of a western contrivance and not one the rest of the world has entirely embraced including Indians. As Thai ladies are very conscience of hygiene it is no secret why the chemistry between these two cultures is strained from a P4P perspective and I think its true of other non-western cultures, that act similarly, as well with respect to P4P.

They like to bang doors, talk in the hallways, and play music loudly. Maybe this is just something they do when in groups?

Anyhow, as another poster mentioned, I like how Thais are so blunt about discriminating against certain types. It's pretty funny to watch door people say "members only club" when middle easterners or south asians approach a gogo and then watch farang and northern asians let inside right in front of their noses. AMAZING THAILAND!!!

I'm a regular at New Orleans restaurant which is right across from the Penthouse. I love the ribs there for 500 baht all you can eat (although I only get the half rack for 395 these days). I have a bunch of friends in town and we went there last night. All of a sudden the waitress comes over and says drinks are on the house. I thought it was because we come there so much. Then a guy comes over and says I'm Jeffrey they new owner. He was really cool, from Perth, Australia. He opened up the bar to us for the rest of the time we were there. He also went to get a liter of Jack, sat it in the middle of the table and said have at it. He made the staff bring us glasses of ice and cokes, although I take mine neat or with just ice.
