If you are trying to withdraw from a checking account, you must select savings or it will not work. I did this, selected savings even though the money is in a checking account, and got 10, 000 pesos. I pd the 112 peso atm fee and $3 from my bank, but the money came out of my checking account as it should have. Hope that helps.
Quite right. And this problem is found with several other banks' ATMs as well. I have a checking account (only) with BHD but have to press "savings account" when using their ATMs.
Always worth a try if the ATM is not working for you, whatever the bank.
Your other option is to use your card inside the bank at the teller counter. I usually do this because I can then ask for small bills and coins (say 1000 in 100s, 1000 in 50s and 500 in coins). Safer too, but you will need your passport.
Their are plenty of ATM's all over Sosua. Ban Reserva, on Pedro Clisante does not charge the 112 peso atm fee but I was only able to get 4000 at a time. The 2 other banks at that intersection charge the fee but allow you to withdraw 10000 peso, which is cheaper for me because my bank charges me a tranaction fee too so fewer tranactions are cheaper.
And if the Banco Popular you are having trouble with is the one next to Bailey's, I had trouble there too. The English instructions are not translated properly. Thanks for the info

Thanks for the info
All the ATM machines I used on my last trip in February. 2011 charged me $5US per transaction, then Chase Bank hit me for another $5US per international transaction fee, cost to use ATM machines for me on that last trip in and around Santo Domingo was $10US per transaction. Banco Leon ATM machines would give a max of 2000 pesos per transaction.

Thanks for the info
Look for signs that say Cajero or Cajero Automatica. Most of the ones I saw were green.
Glad to see the tip on selecting savings at banco Popular since I have never got my card to work at that bank. Scotia works best for me. I have good luck at the ATM in the wall of Surf Liquors and there is guard in the daytime.

Like I wrote, best bet is to use your card inside the bank. Safer, and you can ask for small bills. Change is hard to find in the DR.
Failing that, use ATMs outside banks. That way, if the machine "eats" your card or there is some other malfunction (much more common in the DR than in the "First World") you have some hope of getting help. God help you if it goes wrong in an ATM at a mercado or filling station because it will always be "someone else's" problem.

For some reason the ATM banco POPULAR in Sousa is not working for me, clear it with my bank in USA before I left and got a ATM in Caberette to work for me at a gasoline store, any other working ATM in the Sousa area I can go to?
Thanks for any help.
Nowrath
Try using the spanish option on the screen, for some reason that seems to work for me on that particular machine

Nowrath
About a year ago or more, the ATMs in and around Santo Domingo would not give me money when I chose English as the language. To get money from the machines I had to chose Spanish, as the language the machine would use. Using the ATMs with Spanish as the chosen language, the machines dispensed cash. With English chosen on Banco Popular machines I would receive an unauthorized usage message.

Nowrath
Efecutivo or something like that on that Banco Popular ATM machines is to get cash, for checking account it is something like Corriente. Different DR banks will use different Spanish words on their ATM machines to describe checking or savings accounts.

Very Disappointed.
It's been awhile since I visited this thread. But it is disgusting to read. When did this become a Gay Racist Thread. All we are talking about here is the guys in Sosua. Lets talk about what this website is here for, CHICAS!
I can remember when the first Black American Monger arrived (LA JAZZ). He was welcomed by all and we were all brothers seeking pussy. So what if now the tides have turned. I still go! And I don't care If I am the sole white monger with 2, 000 Black guys. I will still get what I came for! Mongering is a fraternity. Not about Black or White. But about getting laid. The girls there tell blacks they perfer blacks. They tell the whites they perfer whites. And guess what they tell the japanese? You got it. No matter what color the ATM, it just needs to spit out Dinero!
NOW LETS TALK ABOUT CHICAS AGAIN!

NOW LETS TALK ABOUT CHICAS AGAIN!
Welcome back Fantasy. Right now in Sosua there isn't much to talk about with the slowdown, so the board follows that trend. Not many people want to spend money on a place transitioning into something we arent familiar with. Sure pussy is there but most people are taking a wait and see approach.

The lack of chica talk is probably due to no one (including myself) being bold enough to brave the new Sosua for fear of possibly having a shitty time. See Gringo7900's recent reports from 4/23/2011.
Yeah the lack of chica talk on the entire DR fourm has been quite disturbing. I can wait to get down there next month. I will definatly be "bold enough" to brave the new Sosua and if nothing much is going on there, I'm sure to have plenty of pussy at BB. Can't wait! Since I set up my trip, I have quit seeing the local girls here in the US. I just can't bring myself to pay 100-200 USD for 30min to an hr for a girl here when I know I will get an all nighter for 80usd in a few weeks.
