i have been living in se asia for years but mostly sticked to thailand. there will be the first time for me in jakarta soon. i know rtff but it's quite hard to dig in such a huge set of information (and my boss will rather fired me than send to jakarta for a business trip), so i have 3 simple questions and i will appreciate for answers:

2) how do freebies work in jakarta (date in asia works?

re: something similar to tulip. i really like maribaya spa (hotel melawai, block m) in part because it reminds me of tulip. same general, down-at-the-heels seediness, shabby decor. and ladies that will turn you inside out. i recommend a visit and especially a daytime visit.

re: not far from the action. you really need pay attention to the cautions about taxi travel time in jakarta, because of the likelihood of getting caught in traffic that can 5 x your time. as md points out, if you are in jakarta on business, or for fun, will make a big difference as to where you can / should stay.

also "heads up" on ramadan, if you're traveling soon. have fun, and post your experiences! ttg.

How would you people compare Jakarta to Manila in terms of getting women (online and clubs)?

I am 28 so I usually just hit girls up online and invite them to dinner or out for drinks and dancing.

If you want non-pros to take out for dinner / dancing, hit the dating sites and you will have to beat them off with a stick. Just be very clear about what you want, the pros will still try to get you, but you won't have to pay for sex if you are taking a girl out for dinner and dancing. Of course they may get a little clingy, so manage your affairs accordingly.

I did not say this is fair or street price, merely for those who don't know the local market, easily taken for 1 juta ++. And showing some nasty MILF says nothing; I can equally post hotties from CL for same or less. But again one never knows until they show up.

Personally I've never paid more than 1 juta for anyone in my 30+ yrs of visiting there.

Hi Tabasco.

The JIExpo is located up north-east, near the container port or Tanjung Priok.

Its close to Alexis. Which in many peoples opinion is the best top-shelf bordello in Jakarta, but the prices are up there as well.

Otherwise its not far from Kota area, where you have lots of choice including Classic Hotel at Pasar Baru.

But that area is a long drive to BlokM, if your wanting to goto Maribaya for a quickie after work then forget it. At 5 pm it will take over 2 hrs to get there. Actually might be closer to 3 hrs at 5 pm, and at least 1. 5-2 hrs back. If you do decide to go there, then stay in BlokM and goto one of the many Japanese resto bars for a ramen and beers to pass by the hours until the traffic dies down.

If you goto blokM later in the night, say after 10 pm, when the freelancer bars are happening, then it might be 1 hr each way on a good run with an honest taxi driver.

Depends a little where your staying of course as well.

Just to add, in my experience, twitter has much much more gorgeous girls, usually cheaper (again models you pay more for), and the girls far younger than CL.
CL is for foreigners who arrive in-country with no other information at their fingertips. Twitter is for locals on the ground.

Have a look at some of the girls to see their prices. Start from 700 k ST 2 pops and go up from there (there are older cheaper girls on twitter but I don't follow them), usually all have juicy photos in their account to entice customers.
