Take an umbrella. Sandals or even flip flops are advised. No sense trying to dry out sneakers or other shoes.
Better yet, Visayans / Mindanao get less rain than Luzon.
Usually the hotels and bars are covered by something called roof or so.
So true, Mr Ekspat! And I would like to add that there is a brilliant and brand new invention called 'umbrella'! This tool helps the user not to get all too wet while walking in the rain! Believe it or not, one can buy this fascinating thing on the street of AC. For 100 pesos or so! .
Cheers!

I enjoy AC / Manila in August. I will be there for most of August as I have done so in the past 7-8 years. Less tourists, hungrier girls to please you. Who cares about the rest LOL.
Even when it does not rain the heat is too much for me so I look for indo activities. If you want beach then bar fine and move on to other parts of phils.
So I been on fields, perimeter and santos a bunch.
I heard about bars on other streets and places. Any of note I should go look at?
I heard about "2UP" anyone have any favorites?
Still looking if anyone else is in the area!
Yah but what he posted was wrong. In Japan to tip someone is to offend them and I used this instance to prove his "thesis" was a wide generalization on his part.
I have pasted a quote from Wikipedia,"In Japan, tipping is not a part of the culture. Japanese people are uncomfortable with being tipped, and are likely to be confused, amused or possibly even offended if tipped."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tip_(gratuity) #Japan
I will let it go, not trying to be negative just correct things.
The non-tipping culture you've referenced only applies to general consumer activities in Japan.
You must have never heard of "compensated dating" which is huge in Japan and spreading throughout Asia. Thanks for your Wikipedia article. Here's a Wikipedia article for you in return:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enjo_k%C5%8Dsai.
In compensated, a patron not only pays a fee to the girl. He also showers her with expensive gifts, jewelry, clothing and even straight-up cash. This is clearly a form of tipping. And barfining a girl on Fields to go barhopping, drinking, dining and sex is highly analogous to "compensated dating".
I hate to sound like a pompous prick, but my thesis is rock solid. People don't go to another country and suddenly behave differently sinply out of need to compensate for "rudeness" or shortcomings as many have ridiculously asserted. People tip because people are creatures of habit.
Umbrella is good and so are the thin 0.50c- $1 plastic ponchos that easily fold into your pockets. Sandals with straps are best and avoid flipflops during a heavy downpour. Very easy to slip out of your feet and wash away. I've lost at least 2 pairs in the past and not fast enough to chase it down as it rapidly flowed away. The very lite weight nylon / poly running sneakers are also ok as they dry very quickly (they often dry faster than my sandals, so go figure).
my favorite Chinese drinking game (frog frog jump).
Not familiar with this game?
Not familiar with this game?
Sit in a circle.
One person says: Frog frog jump or turtle turtle jump, or something twice then the word jump.
When the person says Jump, everyone puts out one finger. If your finger matches the person who led the chant, you lose (drink / pay / kiss / etc)
If everyone loses, the person who led the chant repeats.
If no one loses, the person who led the chant loses (takes a drink)
If you put out two fingers, you lose.
If you put out no fingers, you lose.

Hesekiels
Just came back yesterday from AC. The street pedlars are enterprising; they sell umbrella when it rain, so do not need to bring one from home.
I was going in and out of the various bars at Perimeter on 8th June with a friend starting at 4pm. We ordered a drink in each place just to watch the scene. Most were small bars with about 10 to 15 girls plus the waitresses. Finally at 5pm we decided to stay put at Net 5 next to Phoenix hotel and gave lady drinks to a waitress while finding out the system. We stayed on ordering food and some more drinks. We were told that bar fine was P1100 for ST or LT. If I remembered correctly our drink was only P65 per bottle and lady drink was P150 each, and this place opened till 11pm.
Beside us there were 4 other foreigners either Australian or British. They did not seem to bother giving lady drink.
Finally by 6pm we left the place with a waitress as bar fine for my friend. I had a FL who stayed in Pampanga in tow by then. We went back to hotel and enjoyed with our individual girl promising to go out for dinner at 8pm. After dinner we continued bar hopping with our girls in the various Field bars and finally ending at Atlantis which seem to have the most expensive drink where a bottle of beer cost P125 and lady drink at P250. By 12am we both went back with our girls by trike. My girl stayed till 10am whereas my friend girl was kicked out by him during the night when she refused sex after bar hopping. Mine was of satisfactory performance and of no hurry and we had 3 round of sex. For her effort I gave her P3000 and another P200 for trike. Thus in Perimeter luck seem to play some part.
Just came back yesterday from AC. The street pedlars are enterprising; they sell umbrella when it rain, so do not need to bring one from home.
Disposable umbrellas. They last about 1 hour and need to be thrown away. If it's windy, it lasts 5 minutes.
Better to sit in a bar and invest in a drink or 2.
