My experience (as one who is prone to getting a bit car sick from bad driving) is the Silver Birds have better drivers (on average), and the cars give much more comfortable drives than the others, with the possible exception of White Horse. A well-maintained Mercedes with automatic transmission (as many Silver Birds are) give smoother rides than the manual transmission less comfortable cars used by Blue Bird and Express (some of which are a bit beat up, but to be clear only some). And from what I gather Silver Birds are only about 50 percent more expensive than Blue Birds (once one gets past the initial flag drop rate, which is only slightly more than a dollar USA). All told, Silver Birds are one of the best taxi bargains in the world IMHO.

I use Silver Bird from the airport because there is never a queue as opposed to Bluebird. Otherwise I would use Bluebird.

But to each his own.

I didn't comment on or suggest the Silver Bird taxis got you to your destination faster than the others. They just are much more comfortable vehicles with on average more experienced and better drivers.

There's a few good reasons to use a Silverbird, some covered by others already:

- no line at the airport terminal (whichever terminal you are using).

- More space for bags.

- Better drivers, which often does translate into a faster trip through less hesitant driving, a car that can do 120 kmh+ when possible, and more shortcuts and knowledge of traffic areas to avoid.

- Smoother ride, better seats - you can often spend 1 1/2 hours plus in the taxi.

- Unless you want to wait an eternity at Shangrila for whatever clapped out taxi they can find on the street on a Saturday night, better get a Silverbird. This can also be applicable at Hyatt, Ritz and often Mulia hotels.

The disadvantage of course is the price. Expect 250,000 plus fares from airport to Senayan area.

Many other taxi companies are reliable, and have been mentioned here. No need to stick to Bluebirds anymore. Eight years ago or more even the Bluebirds could be problematic! Luckily a clean up seemed to have occurred, except for the riff raff hanging out at Blok M and who used to be around Stadium.

Something really worth considering is using the Bluebird app (may require a local number to register) to get a taxi dispatched when you are struggling to get one. Works the same pretty much as other taxi apps you will find in other countries.

The girls know which bars tend to cater to which clientele, so most of the girls also go to the places that have their personal preference too. I did the full tour with JAD many years ago and there was also Tiga Kuda (Three Horses. Although the girls called it Three Horse) which catered similarly, albeit a lot rowdier and perhaps crazier than Deleila. It's an experience, but not my cup of tea. So the girls who go to Deleila and Three Horse (is it still around?) will also generally be looking for Arabs and Indians. Just as the Felatehan bars tend to cater more to bules, CJs and BATS cater to everybody, and the North Jakarta locations tend to cater to Asians. Any help for independents or locations would be helpful. On my PM I have mentioned why I am not taking it. So generic information would be helpful.
