In Chumphon, try the road just East and parallel to the railway line. There are hotels on that road - and hookers, mainly near an old Chinese place. You may need some guts to enter:D!
In addition to BB's advice, you can take a bus from Ubon to Laos as well.... It departs from the first bay on the right when you enter Ubon Bokoso. I don't know about the visa situation in/from Ubon tho.

When I looked into it recently, the only land crossing where visa-on-arrival was available was oop north at the Nong Khai Friendship Bridge crossing point. The visa offices at Chong Mek and Mukdahan had been closed because of non-Thai/Laos nationals smuggling various contraband and, in particular, protected species of animals so I heard. Whatever the reason, the closure fucked up my travel plans good and proper.

You might want to try the old Khon Kaen Lao visa route. It was the only visa office used by NE expats. And for once , I value their oponion:).However... I haven't heard about anyone using it for some years now. I hope this doesn't add to the confusion:(.

The trip up from Ubon through Khon Kaen and Nong Khai looks tortuous. An alternative is to get a visa from the Lao embassy near Ramkhamhaeng Uni in Bangkok on arrival in Thailand. The same day one is available for around 300bt extra. This, in theory, (but, in practice, palms often have to be greased :() will get you over to Laos at any border point.
Heard that the Fresh Inn is worth a visit in Hua Hin.

Very average, but ok. Perfect location for nightlife if you want to be very close.

It isn't so bad if you take the train. Take the Tamada (regular third class train) from Ubon to Korat, stay a night, and then up to Nong Kai. Alternatively if you are willing to take buses, get on a Bangkok bound bus thats taking the Northern Route - Yasothon-Roi Et-Maha Sarakham-Ban Pie. If you pass through Sarakham before 6:30 PM jump off and get the bus to Khon Kaen. If later, continue to Ban Pie. Then from either Ban Pie or Khon Kaen bus north to Nong Kai. Of course you can stay in Khon Kaen a night, and it is a fairly fun town.
Keep in mind that the bus system of Isaan is like a tree with branches, and you can pick up coaches going to or coming from Bangkok pretty much 24 hours. However for any cross-routes, which aren't BKK bound, its pretty much 5:00 AM to 6:00 or 7:00 PM.

Thanks Opebo for your report on the present status in Udon. I don't like Soi Farang as I do not drink or wanna chat up girls. So I am very happy to hear that some operators are still hanging in on 2.
Also one former operator opened a 'Karaoke' at the end / top of the soi. These girls are available for take out, but just a small selection when I was there in March.
I also dislike Soi Farang, Owching. In the same way I love Pattaya for the Beach freelancers but hate the bars.

Yes, I have been there. If you ask they will take you back to one of the houses. When it first opened there were a lot of girls in there, but now I think they're just hidden in the house, with just touts hanging out in the bar.
Had a few days off from a project in Sing, my extrme monger pal asked me to go to Udon and Vientiane together for some upcountry sceneries. So we went again 2 days Udon and 2 days Vientiane.
Booked Tiger a few days before and still cheap, like 160 SGD or something. But prepare to wake up 4 or so in the morning. I noticed the flight was full of Laotians. I guess they use the flight from Udon to get to Sing and back.
Checked in Charoensi Grand Hotel for 1300 bahts on some online reservation. Later evening we started our investigation. We walked into soi 2 and 3. Soi 2 still has a few houses half open. There were still some pimps on the street but very secretive. They asked us if we want lady, we were just being curious so we went into investigate, went into 2 houses, the number of girls was minimal like 4-5 each, and nothing special. So we confirmed there were a few houses managed to survive.
Soi 3 was dead, the lights were all off, so we walked around the main street, and some guy asked us if we want ladies. He said he has many cute girls, and said will bring to our room for viewing. So I got his number and will call him later.
Many tuk tuk drivers also offer us girls, so we took down 2 of them numbers.
Later we started to call them to brig us girls. Okay, the rate seemed to have gone up. For delivery girls, there was no more 500 or 800, they all wanted 1000 for short time. Said they have to pay more bribes now.
Okay each time, the first moto boy brought in 2 for viewing, we must have seen 3 rounds until we both picked someone. ST delivery now 1000 bahts, and motoboy wants 100 for making a few rounds of pick ups.
My first gal was white skin girl with slender body and quite accommodating, included long bbbj. Gave her a few hundreds of donation, and she was very delighted.
Very late night, we went to High Tech disco. Many clubs in the areas. There were definitely lots of freelancers. I picked one up from a club, which she made eye contact with me first. I left my friend and went back with the gal to the room on tuk tuk.
She said she was student, only do this part time, they all said that, I don't care. Very nice body, from some farming place in Northeastern Thailand. Very brief bbbj but she liked to ride me. Okay, she asked me for 2000 tip but I gave her 1500 for this mini session. She was okay. I think some disco freelancers will go at 1000, but this one 1500 was reasonable for me.
The next day, day 2, again asked some tuk tuk to bring me ladies for viewing. He brought 4 of them once, we kept one and he made another round. We both found one we liked. The tuk tuk guy tried to con us asking 1500 each, but I refused and told them othere pimps are 500-1000, then he got scared and accepted our 1000 a piece. Later girls told us, if we booked them through tuk tuk, they give 200 a piece to tuk tuk and share the rest with their mamas..
Conclusion is Udon still has lots of delivery services, but the cheapy 300 bahts screw lady houses are nearly extinct. These girls have turned into delivery service, and hooked up with street pimps and tuk tuk drivers. Freelancers are still everywhere in Udon discos. Be careful, don't apprroach these ones with guys at the table. If you look around High Tech or Mambo, there are always girls willing to go for some tips. But be observant.
The third day, we shifted to Vientiane. We got a big VIP Toyota mini van from a travel agency for 800 bahts all the way to the border. Of course you can also use the Opebo mode of public transportation for only a few bahts to the border.
Vientiane is much better now in term of number of girls as compared to Udon. Karaokes pick ups and disco freelancers all over town. I will report it next post.

Hilton is for sure. I had some problems many years ago in Sofitel. Haven't stayed at the others.
I general, all hotels in HH are girlfriendly. I think you only have a chance to get problems if you stick to the big ww-places.
spent 5 days mongering in Cha-am, a bit quite but relaxing and good cheap food. I picked up some little honey's. I ended staying with a tiny little surin girl, very dark 40kg 21yo, innocent, shy, but once behind closed doors very naughtyand bonked and blew me like there was no tomorrow. She even let me take a few pics. I sure had a great time there and the girls are so real compared to Pattaya. I'm heading back to Cha-am in a week for a bit more of my little honey.
