Hi Guys, I was referrred to this place a couple of years ago by someone on this board and have been going there ever since. But once its plastered all over then based on losing face they will be forced to act. There have been NUMEROUS cases where shops have been raided. Then once they on the radar it reverts to being clean. Then they lose customers and eventually close down. Yes they will open again somewhere else. But then we locals will have to find then again only to have tourist wreak the equilibrium. Bottom line you don't know how to use your brain to find it then too bad. True story I helped out a fellow ozzie. Wasted my time taking him there told him to not pay over 600k, he ignored me and overpaid wreaked the pricing structure then had the gall to tell me I didn't tell him how good it was going to be thats why he had to tip extra. Its had been 600k at least last 5 years but oncce tourist start going its now 650 and its going to go up again once its becomes common knowledge. I know at least 20 such places but my lips are sealed. Go to Thailand you guys

I have now been in HMC for three days now and have some observations to share:
Airport: I was pleasantly surprised by how relatively modern the airport was. I had read here that the prepaid taxi stand was now closed, so I just headed to the only ATM machine in the arrival area to get some VNDs, and someone at one of the kiosks (I believe the only one open at that time which was around 12:30 am) asked whether I needed a taxi. On the way back from getting cash, I asked him how much to D1, and he said $9. So I paid him and he gave me a ticket, which I handed to the handler outside, and he walked me to the mini minivan. I believe it was 'Saigon Taxi' or something like that. So that worked well. Otherwise I have only been taking the Vinasun (mainly) and Mailinh (occasionally) taxis and they are, as it has been reported here, very legit and have consistently used the meter.
Hotel: At the hotel they asked to keep my passport which I refused. I offered for them to keep a photocopy. They needed a deposit instead of the actual passport, which I obliged by giving them $50. I would have probably been able to do $20 or maybe used my credit card as deposit as well.
I tried one of the places in the Korean neighborhood, and everything was consistent with what has been mentioned here. The price however was 650, 000 and based on previous posts, I was expecting 600, 000. I checked a couple of other places in the area, and was quoted 650, 000 as well, so maybe inflation has kicked in.
Stopped by 84 NPK, and once upstairs, I asked for the price and was quoted 500k. I told them my 'friend' pays 200k and they pretended not to know what I was talking about. I left. Maybe I had mixed up the location / price matrix. Oh well.
267 Thi Tap has by far been the best value for the money. The place is very clean. Private areas (as private as you would expect) , and great service. Four girls on the couches when I got in, all 7s and 8s. The price was $200k. No tipping is required, or maybe even expected. I will be back!
Real cheap and good massage around the corner at one of the places on the main street. Something like 60, 000 for one hour. But the girl will ask 500k for hand finish. Somewhat high pressure which I did not like.

But for whatever reason age, appeareance etc they thought you would be a sucker and pay extra. The best option is to walk if you don't want to be the fool. Part of the reason is that you asked the price first meaning you haven't been there. Even tho you know the price. They are factoring you won't walk as 10-25 difference won't mean much to a tourist. Do us a favour and just go go to another place near by. Or if you can don't ask price and afterwards just give 100 to the girl and 100 to shop like you know what it should be

Give the girl the tip she deserves and give the mamasan the 100k. If she asks for way more then necessary, just say you know the price from friends. If she asks for a little bit more, for instance 10-20k, make sure that's the market price for everybody since inflation kicked in the last times and some of the places raised the rent.
