my final attempt to check out the bahraini scene before ramadan resulted in a couple of visits to the much praised hotel seashell.

over friday and saturday nights, i explored all three areas of seashell activity: across the courtyard from the lobby is the downstairs club with the mandatory filipino band and upstairs is a disco (didn’t notice the name of either venue). back on the hotel side there is a bar behind the lobby. all three areas seem to be monger-friendly.

on friday, i lasted about 5 minutes in the downstairs club as the filipino band pumped out yet another rendition of ‘desperado’, commanding a perfunctory response from the numerous lone contractors earning their night of r&r before another weekly grind in saudi.

upstairs in the disco, there were some prcs rivalling the prevailing standard in abu dhabi, i.e. not the best in class. there were also some truly lovely thais but they seemed to be at the beck and call of the young arabs who were dancing and flirting with them. i found it quite hard to shake-off an ugly but playful chinese girl – i would have politely chatted with her for a little longer had her breath not been so overwhelmingly rank. finally, i noticed a number of very camp filipino ‘boys’ mincing on the dance floor, who ranged in age from mid-twenties to middle-age. – my cue to leave.

i ventured a quick peek into the bar off the lobby, grabbed a beer and had a pleasant chat with one of the ethiopian serving girls – no ethiopian wgs here, apparently. damn, i miss the uae. not that you’ll find a lot of ethiopians there at the moment as many of them have gone back home for the orthodox christian millennium (tomorrow/today).

saturday night i returned to the bar, which was obviously quieter. i very quickly caught, amongst her group of friends, the eye of a sexy thai girl with a butterfly tattooed on her right breast. we agreed to go to the club and she played at some mock petting, which was very enjoyable. i didn’t take it further though on the grounds of her looking about 18 (although she said she was 26) and that she wanted bd80 for the night (not including the astronomical taxi fare it would have needed to get her back to manama from my place.

from the little research that i’ve conducted so far, bahrain seems to be more of a clinical p4p destination than dubai or abu dhabi. in the uae it was possible to establish some friendly regulars with all the benefits that that brings. i am yet to be proved wrong but it looks strictly business in bahrain without the volume, choice and price range of wgs in the uae.

Last evening, Family Plaza and Beach Plaza reception staff insisted that all rooms were occupied. After I persisted, they stated that rooms and Thai girls were available but strict management guidelines dictated that rooms should not be offered to Bahrainis or resident expats (like me). Could someone please confirm this?

I managed to get a room at another apartment block somewhere off Exhitbition road which had in-house Russians (BHD 35 ST non-negotaible plus BHD 25 for a standard room per night); the Arabs and Thais had left.

Sounds gloomy but I can not confirm or deny. I would be interested to hear whether this is a local condition adopted by that hotel or a general restriction.

Thats true re Bahrainis, they will not be able to get rooms at these places. Dont know if it applies to all hotels or apts though (i.e 5 star hotels). But resident expats? Sounds fishy to me.

It happens sometimes; usually during ramadan or when there are raids in the vicinity. But certainly not a rule, I am no longer in bahrain, but did stay there last month before leaving, courtesy some nice contacts in the managerial staff. Else, I would have had the same reply you seem to have got from them.

In other words, who gets rounded up by LE: The girl, the punter or the hotel?

Potentially all three depending on the circumstance, particularly during Ramadan..

If you found the WG in a hotel "Coffee shop" and took her to a room in the same hotel, and it was open for mongering "Business" then it looks gloomy for the hotel, the girl and the monger.

The best bet is to be a legitimate resident guest at a hotel known to be open minded and source the female elsewhere then take her to your room. This is the time of year when the little black book of collected numbers is worth its weight in gold.

An independent pro-am on the phone is safer than hanging around an illegally open WG bar during the pious month.

I believe the logic goes, if they are Bahraini, they have a home to go to, why would they be booking a hotel room unless they were up to no good. . .

This of course could be the case, but it must be hard for the poor sod who has been kicked out by a nagging wife, or has just had enough. Probably not the case, he'd have chucked out the wife and got a second by that stage.
I suppose he could go to one of his very numerous relatives. I guess the logic stands.

Must make mongering or just philandering if you're a Bahraini a little more of a challenge. Which is probably why they've been onto the Gulf Air trolly dollies so much in the past, they have their own flats. Alternatively, they have a second house, or apartment to do the dirty in. Very, very probable.

During weekends one could see many cars cruising, slowing, stopping, picking. But this has kind of stopped during the past 2-3 months. Not too sure why. May be another venue has come up.

Well, my first business trip to Bahrain and it is during Ramadan. Looks like the action is pretty limited during the holy month so I was wondering if somebody can share some contacts for WG. I am not into asians, so Russians and Arabs are much appreciated :)
