Question: do these uniformed cuties play for pay?
NO. They are not allowed and can lose their job. Most of them are on 6mth contract and hardly any of them stays for more then one stint so if you are lucky maybe you can find one that has few weeks left and won't mind giving you her phone number. Even then its hard. At least that's my experience.
Good story, please keep them coming.
Going on the reports in Makati section and here, so far you have done well. You overpaid here but did good in Makati. To you it may seem same thing Makati / Malate but you need to understand that we are talking best place in town vs one of the worse places in town, prices tend to differ just like in your city. Don't get me wrong tip if you feel like it but be firmer when negotiating. As Simmon said this was a short time.
With food stick to what you want to eat. Forget letting them chose because most of them would have never eaten out to begin with or if they do its jollibee or some other cheap place that normally you wouldn't bother with. There are few places around MBC that are good, the shaverma place just few meters down and you also have plenty of restaurants around Robinson Mall. To go from Malate to Makati for food is waste of time. IMO Malate has cheaper and more authentic food the Makati.
Be careful with the emotional attachment issues. Filipinas have that magic that makes you fall in love quite quickly. Just remember the 3Fs. Find them, Fuck them, Forget them.
Apart from MBC, any more bar recommendations in the Ermita area? I tried Amazonia (quiet with pushy girls) , LA Annexe (dead) and G-Point (lively with a few lookers) last time, two years ago. None were very inspiring but sometimes I quite enjoyed escaping MBC for half an hour. I read something about a few bars a few blocks down del Pilar from MBC, near Hussey's. Any info?
Nothing really worthy I'm afraid, I have tried, not much going down in the other bars. You can start up at United Nations st and work your way down Del Pilar, there are roughly a dozen small bars on Del Pilar, work your way down and beyond MBC. Top end you have the Southern Cross hotel where I usually stay. Pop in and have a meal. Recomended.
On my last trip I had a guy approach me outside Robinsons during the day saying 'hey, I work at your hotel'.
Note on that same scam, in the same place (probably the same guy) one page back. I have made it my goal to get cash or free beer from these guys one day. Once I can't fuck any more.

Mostly because the pretty door girl showed me beautifull girls inside. Yes, the girls are pretty. Downside they are just hostesses. They drink with you, sing sometimes.
None are available to take out. (Maybe they did not like me ). The doorgirl later said the girls do not go with anybody but I am sure for the right amount they will. I did not push the issue because within a block there was LA cafe (MBC) where Ican just ask any girl to go with me and cheaper too.

Mbc
Was let down by a squeeze at the weekend and not enough time to organize a back-up, so decided to pay my first visit of the year to MBC. As it was a late afternoon, the choice was fairly poor, the usual mix of 80% rough, skanky 'No way Josés' and 20% 'maybe babies'. Didn't see any that would have held a candle to my postponed date. Got chatting to a 'maybe' but she quickly made clear that she wouldn't budge for less than 2000 ST and frankly she wasn't worth it. What is with MBC these days? Girls who only a couple of years ago would have bitten my hand off for a ton, now hold out for double that. I couldn't be arsed to dicker so moved on.
Was getting ready to blow (I have a limited tolerance these days for the poorly ventilated, smoky MBC) when a rather cute little thing joined me at my side table. She was accompanied by Dawn French! Well that's who she looked like to me (if you have never heard of Dawn, think of pretty lady masquerading as barrage balloon and you got it). Why is it that the nice lookers in MBC always have a woof in tow and try to interest you in a 3 timer that you obviously have not the slightest interest in effecting. Hell, there wouldn't have been room on a Sogo bed for the 3 of us! After the usual small talk the cuter girl indicated willingness to 2 pop party for 1500 with the proviso that I would give her an extra 500 if she proved worth it. Now a performance related bonus I can relate to.
Well she earned her bonus. The only disappointment was that the lovely tight, clothed body proved to be not so tight once unsheathed. She had told me in the bar that she had a kid, but, as is often the case, it was impossible to gauge the degree of damage from the shod figure and when the bra came off, the boobs headed south a ways. But apart from that, she was fine and tried very hard to please.
She allowed unlimited pics and vid (a way of earning her bonus, I suppose) , so here are a few of her and her sad 'spaniels ears' tits.
Be aware that now girls have to purchase at least ONE drink before they live MBC. They get stamps which are checked upon exit. You may need to buy her a drink.
McDon, one my friends just recently experienced a waitress trying to do that stuff to him as he was ready to leave with someone. The waitress was insisting but he walked away with her. She asked the woman to confirm that it was true and she nodded yes to having to get a drink, but as the waitress kind of yelled at the woman for not getting my friend to buy the drink we asked her again and she said it's BS, and he and her just got out of there before she came back. This is something new to me, and to me could get them in trouble as they're kind of almost like saying they're employing the women. Stupid move on their part I think. I understand they're trying to make more money but they're going somewhere they probably shouldn't.
On another side note on the drinks, the same friend dared try talking to the mainly Asian section women upstairs in their little clicks. Once she sat down next to him, the waitress pounces and asks him to buy her a drink. He says ok and she promptly orders a 350 pesos exotic looking drink. She claimed no commission or anything but I think somebody's making some extra money. He offered her a beer from our pitcher sitting on the table but she said she doesn't drink that.
I also noticed a lot of the women there are trying to do strictly short time crap and asking for a lot more than 1000-1500 even the not so attractive ones. As the time wore down though, even the so called Asian only women dropped down to 1500 short time. Of note, my friends are Asian, but not of the Korean and Japanese Asian.

Mbc?
Apologies for sounding foolish. What is MBC?
I made search to see if I could find some further info but came up with "not a valid search"
Thanks for explanation

Mbc?
MBC = Manila Bay Cafe formerly LA Cafe before shutdown, In rundown Malate section of Manila. Both have been discussed in length here.

Many of them cannot spare 80 pesos for a drink unless they find a punter. Sometimes you can see girls going around with a half empty bottle. When asked one girl said there are only certain places where a girl can sit without a drink. Do not know how far it is true. One girl even asked me for my bottle of beer which was about 80% empty.
It is worthwhile to know the current rules. Maybe after the raid the owners were asked not to let girls in just to come and sit there. Making them buy or get a drink from us makes it look like they came to the bar to drink. It is impossible to gauge Phi mind for this obvious " Who is fooling Who " hypocrisy. But that is the way it is in the whole country just like prostituition is illegal but girlie bars are ok?

If they don't abide by the rules they may be refused entry the next time. Weather the girl buys the drink or a punter pays for it doesn't matter but she must consume one drink for which she gets a stamp to show to the security guard or a waitress near the door.
As far as I know only staff (waitresses) make money from the drinks. They get 50 peso of a drink. Drinks in MBC / LAC have been overpriced for years relative to other places in Malate but hey we still go back there.
I do not believe the girls are forced to buy one drink.
It is not too hard to believe Samm.
If I owned a coffee shop and I had any person coming in to sit and take up space and wait for friends or family to show up and then they left without buying any coffee or food, I would be pissed and I would watch for them to try it again.
Same thing isn't it?

Lady-drinks

Perhaps it's not strictly enforced to the girls themselves, rather it's a way to extract extra pesos from us mongers ("hey you must buy girl a drink before you go")? I will let you know when I return from my forthcoming trip.
One annoyance I experienced when I was in MBC last time (two years ago when it was LA Cafe) , is that even if I sat on a stool at the large circular bar downstairs and was chatting to the bar-staff and asked for a drink, they'd call over a waitress to collect my order, who would disappear with my cash for five minutes. Seemed daft when I was within reaching distance of the beer I wanted to buy! Generally I found the waitresses very efficient and good fun, but on one occasion the girl didn't return for 20 minutes (some kind of mix-up) , so I had to go and look for her. It's definitely worth making a mental note of the girls names when she collects your order.
I will spend most of my time in MBC when I am in Manila, although I will poke my head in to a few other bars mentioned on this forum. For a change of pace I might investigate Air Force 1 / Starfleet. Is it worth the taxi-ride from Ermita? There is quite a bit of information on this forum about prices but what is the quality / quantity of girls like?
