HB.
Waouh! Sad to read this. But it should happen one day.
Thanks HB. Not just a simple tax and illegal workers raid then.
Other clubs will have to be even more careful to prove that the existence of workers' rotas, agreed start and finishing times etc cannot be seen as evidence of the non self employed status of workers, or even of people trafficking. Not sure how far the authorities can push it as many self employed people agree working patterns in advance at their place of work when using a facility provided by others.
Of course the authorities have also been getting increasingly assertive against "Rockers" and their violence in Berlin.
220 people in the building. That sounds like a lot to me but what do I know. 900 staff from the authorities sounds like a real waste of time unless this is something really major.
Some of the Germans here may want to translate this part:
Nach Ansicht der Ermittler arbeiten die Prostituierten in dem Etablissement nicht selbststndig. Sie knnten ber ihre Ttigkeit nicht frei entscheiden. Vielmehr seien sie nach den Ergebnissen der Ermittlungen strikten Regeln und "Dienstplnen" unterworfen, sodass auf ihre Einnahmen von den Bordellbetreibern Sozialabgaben entrichtet werden mssten, hie es.
Looks like the authorites aren't buying that the girls are independents...
Those types of shift plans, agreed upon pricing lists etc can easily be seen as proof of employment. In your example below there would typically exist a contract in one form or another but that's impossible for a FKK. Don't forget that the entire official business model is based on independent girls.

It depends on details and the intricacies of domestic tax and employment law.
I think we are about to find out a lot about the inner workings of the clubs after this razzia. I'm honestly thinking that this is the first nail in the coffin of the FKK-model (and the new law is of course expected to provide more of that). I don't share the laissez faire attitude of others here, at least not after today.
Waouh! Sad to read this. But it should happen one day.
I do not know German. Does it mean Artemis close for ever or just close one day after raid? I have my trip planed in early May. Hope it will not cause headache.

HB.
I feel like our way of life is under siege. Can anybody provide a succinct but comprehensive interpretation of this article? I don't speak or read German.
Not the final nail in the coffin. Just police work as I am sure they have some undercover punters around sniffing out if there is something unordinary. Reminds me of what happened in Stuttgart Paradise though.
One wonders how long this will put Artemis out of action. Perhaps for a very long time. Sounds like it was a pretty major operation.
RIP Artemis as we know it.
900 policement sounds a bit extreme yes. What did they expect to meet? Some enclave full of hells angels / romanian mafia alliance armed with guns? I think it will return, but they will have to meet newer stricter laws. Especially the tax evasion part is of key concern I think. And they want to know that the girls work on their own. Wonder how they can enforce that part though.
As long as LU is more or less same quality and service provided is the same, I want Artemis re-open again ASAP.
However, 23 million euro to be paid by Artemis is large sum of money. I think there maybe owner change.
Do you think it going to put Artemis to be totally different club? I mean most girls are independent girls in Artemis and they were happy.
I wonder when it will be reopen and will it be the same?
From another article it looks like the Berlin SWAT team was on standby just in case. An operation that's been planned since last year is no routine ID check. Not only Artemis but 16 addresses around Berlin were searched.
My German is far from perfect but it looks like the point of the razzia is that Artemis is guilty of tax evasion since the girls are actual employees. They are employees because there are shift plans and rules for them. That can of course be debated (and has been here) but if we are realistic I believe must of us understand that the girls aren't totally free to do what they want. This will very interesting and could have consequences for other clubs.
