Look up the Black Sheep Hostel Medellíand.
They are inexpensive, clean, in a quiet neighborhood and can arrange onsite Spanish lessons.
I've stayed there many times (they do have private rooms- some with private baths and flatpanel TV's) but have never had to take them up on the language lessons.
Also, you will meet people from all over the world there.

Here in NYC I wear jeans, black dress shoes and untucked dress shirts and it's fine. Sometimes I'll wear a sportcoat as well. Is a sportcoat too heavy for this time of year? Are jeans OK or should I bring dress slacks?
4- If I go to Medellin, is it worth it to get a driver for going out at nite? I've read that the metro is pretty well organized and fine during the day. If you know a reliable driver, let me know.

I arrived today under a steady rain. Ugly day here in MDE. As usual. 60K for taxi to La Mayorista, although a few times before 55K. Hotel charges 10% more, and I was told every hotels here do the same, not because of the Christmas season. Will have a TLN with a non-pro tonight after settling in. Tired from the trip but can't pass this up.

But I plan on heading to Medellin after the New Year to continue learning there. From all the research and reading I've done on the two schools UPB seems to be the best. Most people say EAFIT, that unless you have some understanding on Spanish already, is not that great. EAFIT University though is supposed to be super nice and have a boat loads of hot girls on it. Everything I've read about the UPB program has been good, and that the director of it is a great guy. Plus its cheaper.
Also keep in mind you will be required to get a student visa to study at either of these universities. Which is a good thing as it will allow you to stay in country for 1 year. But, you will have to go through the hassle of getting one. You can pay companies around $200usd or so to take care of all the paper work and trip to Bogota for you. Or you can do it yourself but you will need to go to Bogota.

I picked up a non-pro last night. She, a solid 7 paisa, was there drinking with some friends and decided to invite me. I was eyeing her all night. At first, I automatically assumed she was a working girl. Anyway after a few rounds and probably until a little past 2 am, her friends left and I invited her to my hotel room. She was quite disoriented from the booze and accepted to come with me. The minute we got inside the room, clothes were flying all over the place. We got naked faster then a cheetah chasing after its prey. BBBJ, DATY, banging her in different positions for an hour or so. She slept with me until 8 in the morning and said she had to go to work. Walked her downstairs, caught a taxi, and out she went home without mentioning any money.

My next trip I will take the bus unless it is near empty. If that is the case then I'll take one of those taxi's that go to San Diego that must have 4 passengers. Last time I did that it was 13K. Either way you still need another taxi to your hotel. Of course if you really want to budget it then instead of the second taxi you hop on the Metro. This works only if the metro stop is close to your final destination.
BTW I know most of the tricks to save money so why is it on every trip I end up way over budget?

I'm sure if you do that somewhere down the road it will cost you some money. That is all well and good as you had a great GFE. Same here, LOL. What you need to do is write down everything you spend and see where your money is going. What I found was. I am spending way too much money on TAXIS! Taxi everywhere at night, taxis for chicas (unfortunately, my chicas live 15-20k outside of town). If you have a wing it's not too bad, but by yourself it's a killer!

The key with non pros is. I don't mind showering them with small gifts, but once they start asking for WU or money for their sick baby, that's when it's time to run for the hills! You just have to recognize when to cut things off.

Once they see your kindness for weakness you're in for a shit-storm of sick kids, can't call you because I need credits on my phone, sick mom, ect.
i just find it hard to believe that a "non-pro" would be hanging out drinking in la mayorista strip for five minutes, much less hours, and making significant eye contact with a foreign tourist. esteemed ezyngo, she was a pro, you just didn't pay her.

About 15 policemen. 5 policewomen, and 10 MPs (Military Police) showed up in Mayo, stood up and searched EVERYONE, me included. Quite a scene to see. Ultimately nothing was found.
