I wrote a review a few months ago for two saunas in the GuBei area, which apparently was not very well received. The only comment I received was some ridiculous response suggesting that my desire for a clean spa and enjoying DATY were somehow in direct conflict with each other. To be clear, I would never even walk into one of the red / pink lit storefront parlors (such as on HongSongDong Lu near SongYuan Lu) - need a full body condom to be even close to safe. Also, while I am only an occasional hobbyist, I do have experience. I have enjoyed this entertainment in: Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Nanjing and the US.

I have received value in some of the reports written here and simply want to contribute.

Here are some reviews (in order of my personal preference):

1) DongSen club corner of Cuiyu lu and Guyang lu in Gubei. Exact address is not important as you won't even be able to get up the elevator unless they know you are coming. As I understand, this used to be a public sauna many years ago, in fact one of the locals I took there recently had been there maybe 10 years ago with his wife. The building is some sort of medical services.

* service / price ratio is 2nd to none (at least none I have seen). The 'standard' offering is 880 RMB (just up from 850 RMB) and the selection at that price is simply outstanding. There are two upgraded categories, 1380 RMB and 1980 RMB. I once tried the 1380 RMB offering and see no reason to repeat. Especially considering you can get two of the 880 RMB for 1300 RMB!

* security: until very recently I would have said it is completely safe. However as others have pointed out, the LE has been especially tough recently. I was there on a Friday night some weeks ago and the session was cut short due to an impending visit from the LE. The good thing is they are connected enough to know well in advance and we had plenty of time to get dressed and out. FYI, this is one time my Chinese skills (or lack thereof) worked in my favor. My girl had a hard time telling me what was going on and instead of kicking me out, she managed to finish a rushed session. I had been upset and planned to complain to Tony (English speaking manager) until I realized what was going on and now regret I didn't leave her a tip.

* clean: there is only one close second in this out of all the places I have been to.

* volume: although Friday and Saturday nights can be busy (and during the recent crackdown I got the feeling that since they were one of the few places open, they were much busier than normal), I found it extremely easy to develop a quick relationship with Tony and thus ensure I am well cared for whenever I go. This of course is relative based on how busy they are. But he always find time to personally look after me.

Note: I have taken a few locals there, some of which claimed to be experts in the area (hobby and geography) - all left extremely impressed.

2) Hong Song. Building next to the Hongqiao Hilton on HongSongDong Lu. I actually tried to get there since November but seems as though it had been shut down for months. Well, it is finally open again.

* Clean. Takes 2nd place.

* selection: only been there once on Thursday night, but was quite pleased with the offering.

* price: quite expensive! Given the facilities, quality of offering and proximity to my #1 (pretty much equal) - they are way overpriced at 1400 RMB (not sure the exact price as I didn't pay).

* upselling: as soon as the guy running the fishbowl saw the Laowai, he immediately pressed me for two girls. After I selected my girl, all the way to the room and for about the first 5 minutes in the room she kept trying to get me to take two.

* security: this one I am not sure about. They have two metal detectors before you get to the fishbowl, however there really is no screening process (other than forcing you to purchase a 100 RMB membership) and as they were closed for quite some time, not sure of the reason.

* volume: they seem to be set up as a high volume provider, making the likelihood of gaining 'VIP' status low.

3) Bodi. This is the only place in Pudong I have tried. Went there on a Tuesday night.

* selection: very disappointing. Not sure if it was the timing or the fact it was my first time there. Problem is, due primarily to the selection, it will likely be my only time. The only upside here was the girl I did choose jumped right into LFK.

* clean. Takes a distant 3rd place.

* language: the greeters speak English, but not the attendants.

* security: none that I could find. I walked in off the street and was ushered straight in, no questions asked. Saw no controls in place at all. However this was month's ago, perhaps things have changed with the recent crackdown.

* volume: definitely setup for high volume. Got no feeling whatsoever there was any real chance for making a 'VIP' connection.

4) Pinetrest (SP?) Went there one time on a Friday night. Was brought there by a local.

* security: without calling in advance, think there is little chance of getting in.

* selection: OK, nothing special but acceptable.

* service: seemed the price was based on number of pops (2) and not necessarily time. But I am not certain about this as negotiations took place in Chinese.

* language: don't think English was an option.

* price: not sure exactly, but was for sure more than 1000 RMB per person.

5) Hunan hotel - (inner ring Road north of Wuzhong Lu) this was an extremely short visit. After being shown to a lounge room and (reluctantly) sitting down (there is no cleanliness rating for this place) and seeing an initial offering of 3 girls. We made some phone calls and ended up at HongSong as they were finally open again.

Hope some of you find value in this.

Went to a pickup bar often mentioned here during the Spring Festival. I was at a dinner party with friends earlier, so it was close to 1 AM when the urge hit. I thought it was late and it might be rushing it a bit to go to saunas, I figured I would try the bars. I do not know whether it was because of the hours or it was during the Chinese New Year lull, the pickings in the bar were slimmer than I hoped when I was there. I ordered a drink and looked around. I got approached by a South East Asian woman. She spoke passable English. While she was not someone who would leave you panting and drooling, the pickings were slim and the hour was late. We agreed on an overnight deal. That was the first time I brought a provider to my place.

She was in her 30's and looked less striking in brighter lights once we stepped out of the bar. Took the cab to my place, took a shower together and started doing the deeds. Her body was only so so after the clothes were off, and there was some stretch marks on her tummy. The service was professional enough (massage, BBBJ, no fingers inside, no DATY, not that I was that tempted, and the part that made it FS), but I did not care for the fake but loud moaning and screaming like we were in a Japanese AV film. I am not narcissistic or gullible enough to think I was such a stud and drove her to ecstasy 2 seconds upon entry. Good thing my neighbor was out of town for the New Year holidays.

Anyway the session was completed before 3, and then to bed. At first I thought it would be nice to be snuggled up next to a (naked) woman overnight, but she felt asleep quickly and started snoring rather loudly. I slept fitfully, but I thought it was rude and inconsiderate to ask her to leave at that ungodly hour. Anyway she woke up at 8 Am and said she really must go. I did not get a morning send off or even a bubbly back rub in the shower. I did not think I was a turnoff, because she left me her number to call. I have not put her in my contact list yet.

The reason why I was not being very specific in the write up was that I think I might be identifiable to her from the report, and she knows where I live. (Call me paranoid.) I feel much better with the anonymity of a sauna (or sex clubs like those in Europe.) I regret taking pick ups back to my place. That may be OK if I were staying in a hotel for a couple of days.

One other advantage in going to a sauna is the room where you pick out the girls is always brightly lit, so you can see and choose well. And overnight may not be much more than ST when the hour was late, and you do not pack a six shooter.

I am not Brad Pitt, so I do not expect picking up hot amateurs in a bar or club for causal freebie hook ups. After this so-so experience, while pick up bar is an OK option, I do not think it will be my top choice for mongering in the future. And if the period around Chinese New Year always means a slow time, I will look at a trip (Europe? Australia?) next year.

I've experienced several of the Shanghai saunas and was thinking of trying something a little different when I visit in a few weeks, especially with the apparent LE crackdown of late. A couple girls on that site look intriguing and their posted prices are competitive. I just don't know how "safe" this site is or the potential for scammed there.

I stay in the Novotel Atlantis when I visit and can usually get a he massage in the spa there, but it's HJ only, I don't get a choice, and the girls are usually older and just so so looking (although they do strip naked). I've been told I can get more with room delivery but haven't tried that yet. I have another girl I've used a couple times for tantric massage who advertises on Craigslist. She comes to my room and does nuru, prostate, and HJ release and she's very nice and pretty, but also pricey (I posted a review of her last year). I can always see her again but I'm looking for something a little differently on this trip.

And also the posted prices are mostly "honepot-styled". If they finally in your room, they will find ways to explain, that this quoted price is only for a massage, the handjob will be 500 extra, get them naked again and so on! Target is to get as much as possible, so often the girls will not stop upselling, till they squeezed every RMB out of your pocket. I would say, if you try to find something pricey and safe, there should be better choices!

When I first started looking into mongering in Shanghai a couple of months ago, I searched on the net and found a web site. Turned out it contained very general and out of date information for Shanghai. (As an aside, ISG is a great. A shout out to the web master for putting together this treasure trove. Live long and prosper! Chaojiadu (Changshou Lu area) was described as the officially sanctioned red light district. I wandered there one night to check that out. In one of the side street was a store front parlor with several women in short skirts, sitting and looking out the window. They waved at me. I walked in just to find out more (there was a young woman who was OK looking sitting to the side) and was immediately grabbed by a very aggressive woman the second I stepped through the door. I was pushed into the back room. She must be in her 40's, spoke no English and just made the sign of a finger going into the ringed fingers in the other hand, and said 300 rmb. I tried to say I was not interested, but she was already taking off my clothes. I would have to forcibly shove her away to stop what was happening, and I might be in more trouble if the goons were then called in. The room was dark and small with a dirty twin bed. I was literally pushed onto the bed with my pants down around my knees. She did a perfunctory CBJ (Thank the Lord) for 3 minutes, and hiked her skirt and started simulating what could only be loosely taken as copulation. 5 minutes later she said time was up and if I wanted more, I have to pay to extend the session. I certainly did not want more (I wanted to go, not come.) and tore out of the place. Frankly however I have gotten good FS for 1000 RMB (and 2 massage girls I built a relationship with for 600 to 800 RMB.

North south sorry about your bar experience. I have had good and bad luck there. I am now hitting much better there. A couple things I do.

1 play the field. You can find all nighters for 1000 there and ones that will actually go 2 to 4 rounds with you for 1100. If a girl is sticking to a silly price, move on.

2. Take a nap. I grab a nap from 7 pm to 1030. Then I head over. Girls start getting worried they will be going home alone after midnight. Also at my age, if I want 3 pops for my money I need to be ready.

3 be clear with the girls. If you think you can make 3 or 4 pops. Tell them that's what you want. If she is cringing at that, she is not your girl.

4 if your in Shanghai permanently tell them you want a girl for many nights. Maybe if you are both good for each other it could be her. For me, if I get a good one I will usually repeat. Price gets cheaper mid weak with her this way as well.

5 don't pick the girl who just stays next to you. Sometimes you miss the best ones later. Tell them you haven't chosen yet. You want to talk to other girls.

6 drink less. I suffer from the in the light you are shocked by what you had in the bar. Keep the beer goggles off! One or two beers but not 6!

Keep trying. You'll figure it out.

I feel better about knowing the price in advance, and just point and pick.

Hang out with the massage gals getting a foot massage. They will teach you mandarin. Many are looking for boyfriends. Extras are available with tips and the possibility you are husband / boyfriend material.

I know it's hard to walk away. I have found the girls are not insulted. They would rather know up front if they are "not for you".
