Thank you Tomjackin for a "fair and balanced" report. It is nice to read a realistic and honest report instead of reading crap from certain posters that seem to have an axe to grind against Sosua and are constantly claiming Sosua is on it's death bed. Every city I have ever been to for mongering has changed over the years but you don't hear them calling it the "new" Medellin for example. I visited Sosua ten times last year and had a blast and that is all that matters, having fun. I am glad you enjoyed your trip.
Yes, thanks for posting Tomjacking. We are in all agreement that Sosua still has pussy, but not like before. There is also still night time hangout spots. And that Sosua has a more family feel during the day. But I'm not the type of guy that would tell people that Sosua is the same as it always has been, and mislead people. Because I take this honest stance, some people assume I'm wishing for the downfall of Sosua. It's not hard to see the direction that the powers in charge want the "New Sosua" to go. Police harassment, more families, less mongerers and with 50% vacancy at NG, the plan is working and proceeding. But some mongerers here want me to say everyting is perfect. I respect your opinion Mani, and we are cool even when we disagree. But considering the money that I used to spend in Sousua bi monthly, to have someone say "Fuck you and your money, we don't want it" doesn't sit well with me. And your correct everyplace is going to have an lull, maybe this is just that.
But I will say this, its about to come to a pivital point. The family plan or back to the mongerers Sosua, they both can't co exist. Another site is complaining about the NY boys coming down in big groups for the weekends. All it takes is one big incident and the hookers and mongerers will be blamed. Then we will see the final crackdown. But guys can always go to La Passions, that will then be full of mongerers, and come back here and write" Sure Classicos is closed but there is plenty of pussy in Passions and Sosua is far from dead".

We are better off without many of the moaning minnies who now struggle to have a good time in Sosúa because they are too lazy or stupid to learn a little Spanish and the basic steps of common sense mongering. Also without the hard-core putas and other scum who used to pray on these easy marks.
I was always considered to have a down on Sosúa because I favored Puerto Plata. Now with the closing of Field of Dreams, El Chakerero, Vacilón, and other bars, it is hard to speak in favor of PP as a mongering center for short-term visitors, though still fine for those who have already built a list of contacts such as you and me. But Sosúa is hard to beat for those from the East of the US or from Europe who have convenient and affordable access, if you are looking for over-all value.
Glad to hear that good times can still be had. My last trip was during the first week of the crackdown. I had a good time but it was nothing like the prior trips. I'm trying to put together a last minute trip for the middle of June. What did you pay the chicas? 1000-1500 ST and 2000- 2500 TLN still going rate?
Less Chicas, the more demand so to speak. Before the crackdown, the prices were cheaper because of the higher number of Chicas. They are asking for more, but will settle for less. A couple of the girls I called, I knew from the previous trips, and just gave them whatever I thought was fair, they never asked. Bottom line; be prepared to pay more than before.
Sosúa nowadays is worse in some ways and better in others.
I probably will have a party in Santo Domingo at the end of June, you are invited, if you are feeling better to travel to Distrito Nacional. I am sure you know plenty of cute Haitian chicas, you can bring along, LOL.

Maybe the hard-core slags who hang round New Garden and try to dominate Clasicos (often veteran rejects from Passions, Blackbeards, Cristal, Field of Dreams, etc.) are asking more and getting it, but my friends who live in Sosúa are finding a steady trickle of fresh talent entering the noble profession and they stick to the tried and trusted price schedule of 1000-1500ST and 2000-2500TLN.
You will need some Spanish (not much) , some common sense, and an agreeable manner, though.

I don't think it is a supply and demand issue because I was hiding from chicas recently. I tend to think it is a factor of gringos driving up prices. When I read about guys on here bragging about tipping chicas 1, 000 pesos extra for doing what you are paying them to do I have to wonder. Its like reading in a travel manuel that tipping at restaurants is not the norm in a particular country and gringos come down and start tipping. Suddenly it becomes the norm. All you have to do is go to Costa Rica to see what can happen.
Experienced mongers know a lot of these chicas are actually looking for somewhere comfy to crash late at night. Guys that can develop chemistry and have some game may not have to pay the same price as another guy. Not saying its not all about money, but one of the reasons guys started coming to the DR from the start was because Dominican woman love to fvck. Somehow we've gotten away from that.
Sosua has some nice talent, but I think the variance is greater now and its more of a freak show. Not freaky as in sex, but freaky as there are a lot of chicas that should not be out there. Freaky also in that I see a lot more mongers now that are over 400 lbs or 6ft8. Nothing wrong with that but you can look at a lot of these dudes and surmise that they are probably paying big numbers. I ran into some Western Union novios recently and also a guy that was paying astronomical numbers. I don't let what the next guy pays affect what I pay when I monger.
On another note, I think the resistance to the monger scene has to do with the type of mongers increasingly coming down more than mongering, in and of itself. After all, prostitution is legal in the DR.

I think it's a new breed of mongerer, that developed with the Brazil "fuck fest". I love the story's from my Uncle's about the day's of mongering in Santo Domingo in the 80's and 90's. The North Coast hadn't developed to the wild Sosua yet. But they migrated to Puerto Plata first when it had dirt roads. These guys would spend months at a time, and intergrate into the community. Girls would invite them over to show off their new gringo boyfriend. They learned Spanish, and fucked with respect and laughed when they got caught cheating, it was all fun.
Then Brazil got hot with their amazon bodys and sexual talents. Word spread and it was a must see, meanwhile the older dudes in Puerto Plata keept their secrets. Puerto Plata is still a secret and my second favorite place behind Medellin.
Sometime's I think Sosua was created to hide Puerto Plata. The older guy's had already set up shop in Puerto plata and didn't want these new young guys, who were now looking for the next Brazil, to fuck their spot up. Sosua had a beach and new night cubs plus girl's looking for a gringo boyfriend. But here comes the ex Brazil guys with their "fuck fest" attitude's. Now it's all buisiness and sex. Closer than Brazil and less expensive. Also there are non stop flights from the North East. It got crazy, guys would pull a girl in a corner and bukakee her if they thought they could get away with it. The respect was lost, it no longer was about GFE and the DR cultural experience. If guys could of bought their pitbulls down to get pussy they wouldve done it, they didn't care. I remember just last year checking a guy on this forum who asked"Is it ok to ejaculate on a girl in the corner of the Latinos disco".
I have connections, love the culture and work everyday on adding to my Spanish vocab. Once the change takes place (whatever it is) I will resume my bi monthly trips. I guess it's what Mani say's, every mongerer spot goes thru an adjustment.

New Yorkers don't do anything worse than the Dominicans. Maybe they can teach some of the expats namely a Brit it particular how to wear a hat sideways and walk with their pants on the ground and say 'Whats up Homey' instead of 'Hail to the Queen! ' Just saying it would go long ways towards a more peacful community.

New Sosua
If anyone has experience with Sosua this is not the first crackdown that they have encountered. They occur, after a while they stop, and they do occur again. I've seen the pattern a million times. The volume of chicas has diminished considerably so the street action is ridiculously low yet the night action is always there. If the government wanted to end prostitution they could have done so a long time ago.
Prostitution ending would kill off much of the business in Sosua. Let us face it, most of the people who hang around at Classicos, El Flow, Rhumba, Merengue, and the like are mongers, not tourists! (at night count the number of tourists to mongers. I have yet to see tourists outnumber mongers. When this happens then I will worry!) The streets are easier on the eyes of tourists, during the days, but at night it is chica time.
New Garden is down 50% but that would have happened whether there was a crackdown or not. There was a period, a while back, where customers were emailing for reservations and the hotel was simply not answering (something along the lines of 31 emails in two weeks!). Noone at New Garden realized that they were not taking in reservations! Talk about poor business practices! New Garden has management problems. The regular customer does not see them but if one has experience it is noticeable. Second, no matter what anyone says, after Willifried left New Garden took a hit on it's business. Willifried was pulling them in. The low volume is not all necessarily due to the crackdown.
When I was last in Sosua I had no problem finding action on a daily basis. I was hanging out till 6:30 in the morning and was still finding action at the disco at the end of the block. Hey, if one wants action, with no problems, they can go to Passions everyday and pick up a chica. I find them overpriced and would not pick one up there but if money is no object than that is the place to go. Prostitution is alive and well in Sosua, will not die anytime soon, and it will be years before the government thinks of eliminating the chica action. Even if the government did it would simply move to another location and we mongers just need to find out this other location! Rumors of Sosua's death have been greatly exaggerated. It might not be the glory days but, heck, it is also not the end of the world.

Newer Monger Types
Who are these types increasingly coming down? I think you inform the rest of us of them so that we know to keep a sharp eye out for them.
Thanks!
Ok, I'll say it since I'm not a big believer in political correctness.
The monger type that has come down and has everyone upset are these Black guys or shall I say African-American.
I don't mean to stereotype all African-Americans as I am one, but seriously . In the last 3-4 years or so a new type has come down and essentially lessened the quality of the experience. Every one I know from the older DR hands white, latin, european, black all notice and complain.
Their typical characteristics:
-Black / African American (sometimes latin). Typically from New York, Atlanta, DC.
- typically young. 33 and under (although a few older)
-loud. Display obvious lack of home training or as they say in the DR "educacion"
-walk around wearing "wife-beaters". Forgetting that wife beaters are typically underwear not outwear.
-baggy shorts / pants with underwear showing.
-ALWAYS running around in packs with their "boyz" or their "crew" or entourage.
-sometimes acting as if they are re-enacting a 50 cent or P-Diddy video.
The proliferation of this newer monger type has definitely reduced the overall quality of the monger experience, has increased the general incivility of the place and thus attracting the attention of politicians and long time residents who always accepting prostitution as long as people. Tourist and practitioners showed a modicum of respect for the place, but are now upset.
I even remember the days long ago when New Garden was actually a decent hotel to stay at and not an open air brothel that this new type (primarily) has turned it into.
Everything changes I guess. And not always for the better.

The issue is just with how it looks to regular tourists and investors. Not what is actually happening.
The "glory days" are just those periods when it's tilting out of control to the point where drunken frat boy parties and mobs of chicas are scaring tourists and investors.
It may seem like classicos is the center of the DR's economy but there are a hundred rooms on the north coast for regular tourists for every one for mongers. In tough times the regular guys start screaming louder about how bad those p4p people are making their properties look. Because they are not selling and they are real touchy. Number wise I'd say 50, 000 straight tourist rooms (AI, condo, timeshare etc) 500 monger. Literally 100:1.

I even remember the days long ago when New Garden was actually a decent hotel to stay at and not an open air brothel that this new type (primarily) has turned it into.
Everything changes I guess. And not always for the better.
I recall the last time I stayed at New Garden. There was a group of guys from the inner city. They were like everyone else, having a good time, but the noise level was ridiculous. I am guessing that they paid New Garden to have a House Party because they blasted the music so loud that I was talking to the owner of Terra Linda, in front of Terra Linda, complaining about the music at New Garden. The owner could hear it clearly and even customers at Terra Linda, who were friends of the music players at New Garden, heard the music loud and clear in their rooms at Terra Linda.
One of my buddies, who was also good friends with the fellows playing the house music, and was invited during this time to stay at New Garden, did not do so because, as he said, he "did not want any of that 'RAA. RAA' shit!"The next day the hotel next to New Garden made a complaint about the noise level. There must have been other complaints because after this everytime someone complained about the loud music New Garden responded to it quickly.
I was one time walking down the stairs and noticed one of the white residents, at New Garden, passing me and being extremely annoyed. I was wondering what it was all about. When I sat down to have breakfast some of the guys were talking about the chicas they busted out the night before! Conversations all around me were laced with sex and profanity. Now I live in a bad neighborhood, so this stuff does not phase me out but I do like some peace to my breakfast. I simply stopped eating breakfast in the mornings and avoided the group. Lorenzo had some of his Italian friends staying at New Garden. I bumped into one at Merengue Bar. He asked me what I thought about the party! We both agreed that it was too loud.
I figured that eventually this group would leave and things would calm down. This is exactly what happened.
I mentioned this loud breakfast behavior to one of the workers at new Garden, when he returned from vacation, (excuse me for not mentioning names but I do not want to get anyone into trouble) and he said that this was sometimes a problem and he had to remind the residents to lower the volume, and content, of their voices when they were eating.
I talked to one of my buddies, who moved down there about a 1 1/2 ago and he said that this was becoming more of an issue.
I can understand. I was young, loud, and do come from a rough neighborhood. I see this behavior all the time (as I am typing this, in my 4th floor apartment, there is a group in front of my building acting loud, gambling, cursing, usually drinking) , but I find such behavior just looking for trouble. The majority of mongers are not of this type but there is a significant number that comes down and make themselves known.

I like some of your observations / thoughts. POP / Costambar are areas I still like to go to and often get non-putas, as in they don't ask for money, and the girls have a different mentality than in Sosua. I can say this about a lot of areas outside of Sosua. Unfortunately, most guys on the boards only know POP for Blackbeards. However, I've also seen old headz like the guys you mention in the DR and they are very well connected and doing things on another level.
I like what you wrote cause it shows that you see more value than the average gringo that wants to go somewhere and have everything like it is back home with the added benefit of cheap sex. Places like DR and Colombia don't really open up for you until you get out of the tourist economy and get connected. That is also when you find the real talent as far as chicas. A spot like Sosua just lets you know the possibilities, but its up to you to step your game up to really maximize the situation and I don't mean throwing money at everyone cause that has its limits as well.
To a certain extent, Sosua is a victim of its own success. In general, things are getting more hardcore because of some of the points you mentioned. As someone else mentioned, there have been crackdowns from time to time. But somehow this has a different feel to it because the times have changed. Sosua used to be a sleeper, as in not as well known, sometimes its better not to advertise everything on the net and post a lot of pics if you want to keep it that way. I agree about the Brazil mentality coming to Sosua. Some of the people that were fixtures in Rio are actually now in Sosua.

I am young and AA, but I do not fit the description above, not does anyone I travel with (also AA's). I don't even have friends of those types here at home. In the Old Sosua there was enough pros to go around 24/7 and those guys were mostly invisible to me (because I usually finished all my business early and ended early (before 2am). Now it seems that everything starts late and ends early (in the morning) and in order to get some you have to fish alongside everyone else (including the "make-it-rain crowd).
Sosua is easy. That is why folks with no Spanish or the desire to learn Spanish go there (aside from the quick hop from the East Coast). These guys would fall flat on their faces outside of Sosua. You also have to take into account that there are more college educated blacks then there was back in the 80's and 90's, so now there are more blacks with money to spend. Since felon's can't hold passports then it is safe to assume you are witnessing what 50 Cent calls "Wanksters" (fake gangsters). The real thugs and gangsters all all in Prison (T.I. and Lil Wayne would agree since they visit that institution often).
So I guess it is also safe to assume that those who want "quick and easy" (Sosua) will have to put up with the Wanksters that also want quick and easy. Everyone else (including me) will take the time to learn the language and venture elsewhere (on the island or in another country). Wanksters will not take the time to learn another language because to them, that is not "Gangster" (read "Cool"). I have never met BBBL (nor do I know his style of dress), but all you have to do his read his almost daily reports of his two months in SD that he has been posting in Mr. Gogo's forum to see what the new way forward will be. Jao and BQ Ribs have been doing this for years.
Also, don't falsely assume that all black men want and lust for White women. We are talking about black men seeking out black women (Dominicanas, Haitianas) who will give them less of a hassle than their counterparts (AA women) , so naturally black men will want to flock there in droves after discovering Sosua (the same way they did with Rio). I am sure if black men from the East Coast start showing up in South Africa in droves in the next few years, there will be complaints (from non-blacks) in that forum as well, LOL.
