1 to 2:30 PM is probably the best time.

Why? Because most saunas open around noon, but not all girls arrive at noon.

But pretty much all the girls will be there by 2.

Usually by 3, the local johns show up.

So I would suggest go enjoy your lunch, give it some rest, playing "full contact sports" is not really healthy on a full stomach then go to the sauna.

And the manager added: You want first dip and not sloppy second.

So I think I'll try brunch next and report back later.

Then go for lunch. Don't go after 10 - usually girls are worn out by that time and quality of service is not good.

1. 99% of pictures are fake.

2. Majority are managed by pimps.

3. Service is not good.

4. Room is usually tiny and bathroom is not clean.

5. High risk because they are in normal apt building.

6. A lot of times have to wait for previous customer to finish.

Overall I don't recommend it.

I had posted my reservation about mongering with QQ girls. However, a friend referred me to a QQ girl he knew and raved about her. I thought I would try her out.

I chatted with her on QQ several times. She was pleasant enough. She was 22 years old. I asked her what will be a good time come over, or would this day and this time be good. She opened the door and there stood a very cute and sweet girl. My anger kind of melted away. She was behaving rather apologetically, and was very nice. The service was quite good. But during the whole time I was there, she was constantly getting calls and texts. A few times, she stopped what she was doing to attend to her cell phone, which was a big turnoff and unprofessional. I read in another web site that was a common and irritating thing with QQ girls because they had to work as the receptionist and everything else in between.

In summary, she was good because she came recommended, but otherwise it will still be hit and miss. The price was ridiculously low at 400 rmb. There is no such thing as an appointment, and there will always be the blasted cell phone interruptions. I still think sporting with QQ girls will not be my top option.

- Most guests will be Chinese guy, some will be Japanese or Koreans, but very less foreigners in the most sauna clubs.

- Chinese guys often also invite or been invited to a sauna by business partners.

- Girls work every day, except their "women's holiday", so not any "weekly day off" or something like that.

- In the most sauna clubs the girls have to work around 12 to 14 hours every day.

- You will nearly never find a "local" girl in a sauna. More than 98% of the girls will come from "countryside".

- The sauna clubs all will open around noon time to latest 3 pm and than close between 1 and 3 am.

So based on that facts, there will be clear "results":

- The sauna need 2 shifts mostly to cover their opening time with girls (small saunas sometimes just open more late or the girls need to work longer).

- Most sauna clubs will have girls doing the 2nd shift and will start 1 to 2 hours later (and stay till the business end in the night).

- Because the girls have no regular "days off", they will have nearly the same number of girls in the sauna clubs every day (except the official holidays).

- So the number of girls in selection depends only on the number of customers and can not be "balanced" by the boss, for example by a holiday plan.

- Many of the visitors are local Chinese guys who will also stay here in Shanghai in the holiday time.

- A lot of "local men" are married with "countryside" women, so their wives go home for official holidays, while the guys visit their parents in town.

- So finally often local guys have more "freedom" in the holiday time (1-2 weeks spring festival in January / February and 2 weeks beginning of October).

- The best chance for a big selection is to come at a time, when the Chinese guys are not "free" to go to a sauna.

So if you try to get the best selection or want a not too tired girl, than you should consider some points:

- Directly after the opening of the sauna, all available girls are still "fit", but there will not be all arrived already (most time only the first shift will be there).

- Also many Chinese guys like to be the "first guy of the day", so better forget the idea to be the only customer in a sauna at that time.

- If you want to be sure all girls definitely arrived, better come 3 pm (as far as I know 2 pm is too early, sometimes the second shift start 2:30 or 3:00 pm).

- But at 3 pm, approximately several of the girls will have had customers already (the first shift girls), so you have a risk not to be the "first guy" that day!

- Week time afternoon most Chinese guys need to work (and guys who don't have a job mostly can not afford the spending for a sauna session).

- In weekday around 5 to 6 pm the busy time in a sauna will start, because than guys can leave their office, but their wife still will believe they are doing "overwork".

- The really busy time starting from 7 to 8, when the guys finished dinner with their partners and come over for a sauna session!

- I will go on like that till at least 11 pm, from that time on a normal sauna will get less busy very fast.

- Around midnight the first shift of girls will leave, so than the selection will go down again.

- On Saturday still many companies work, so the guys can tell their families, they are "working" when they visit a sauna, so the whole day will be very busy.

- On Sunday there is nearly no excuse for them to leave from home, so there will be very less customers in the most sauna clubs compared with other days.

My recommendation:

- Avoid the Saturday, if you are free to choose another day! That is really the worst day for a sauna visit!

- When it's very important for you to be the "first one" (we call that an "early bird session" than better arrive directly when they open the club!

- If you like the chance to be the "early bird", but also look for the largest possible selection, than come 3 pm (but with the risk you will be the "second bird".

- For guys who look for the largest selection in week time, come around 4 pm, than business guys still not there, but "early bird hunters" left already.

- Chinese people often very traditional and fixed to an early dinner time, so it's a better idea to have first the sauna session, followed by a late dinner than vice versa.

- Sunday is over all a good day, so Sunday around Chinese dinner time dinner time /5 to 6 pm) could be the optimum time, if you can make it there!

- Avoid the official holidays! This days even more local guys are free for a visit than normally, but many girls left home, so that is the most worse time at all!

But for all the guys who are not so flexible to choose their sauna time, no need to worry! In the right sauna clubs you will find some good choices all the time. I had some nightlife tours with customers in the spring festival holidays just now, and we have always been able to find a sauna, where the guys found great girls they liked!

And another tip: if you don't like the selection, just tell the manager at the selection point, that you want to wait for a second "selection round". You can imagine, if they are very busy, it also means that many girls are in a session actually (but many session also for sure will end soon). So if you wait for 20 to 30 minutes, you will mostly get a totally new selection with 90% different girls!

You are exactly right. Saturday is a bad time. I now realize selection depends on how many guys had already shown up ahead of you, and is the luck of the draw. I showed up at a less well known sauna (here, but it appeared to be well known among the locals) at 2 pm, as I was told by the manager. There must have been 7 guys I could see there already. Some were changing along with me in the change area, and some just sat in the reception lounge. Smoking. I quickly changed and went to the fish bowl room ahead of the guys still changing, but 2 other guys were sitting there smoking.

After a few minutes, 3 girls showed up inside the fishbowl. The selection, as far as looks were concern, was not that great. The 2 guys just sat there. I thought they were indecisive and I jumped and pick the prettiest among the 3. That girl, despite not the greatest looker (in the face) had a good body and gave great service. So essentially I was happy.

Looking through Shanghai Guide's post, I now realize most girls were in sessions at the time with the earliest birds, and those guys were just sitting around when the selection was thin, waiting for the big parade in the next round. Next time I may also wait, but I really hate sitting around with those other johns and endure their unbearable smoke.

There are some good shops in Minghang area, where you have a great choice of girls, you can select the one you like and if you don't find any girl you want to party with, just go over to the next shop beside.

And than spend a 20 to 60 minutes "one shot session" and pay 438 for that.

Not much more than your QQ experience, but no waiting time, you know what girl you will get, the service is not stable like in a sauna, but I guess in a massage parlor you will have a much lower chance to get a totally worse experience than you could (and would have some day) with QQ girls.

And for me the most important point, as mentioned below already, this QQ privat apartments get often raided by police, because they don't have "protection" and the neighbors not really like to have a prostitute beside, so if they saw guys coming and going like even you as a guest you could see in such a short time, there will be someone who call the police very fast.

And if you got caught with trousers down in a prostitution situation, we talk about 10 days prison for you, perhaps you can avoid that, but mostly they will at least cancel your actual visa, than you will have 3 days to leave China, and you will be blocked for getting a new visa for some years. I think such a lousy session is not worth to take the risk.

I just went to my favorite sauna last night (dong sen) and seems things are changing after the recent LE crackdown. Not only was it the worst selection I've seen there (although it was 11 pm Saturday night, they were not very busy). But the guy that takes care of me told me he was planning on moving to a new place. I'll probably move with him, but it for sure won't be as convenient.

Just thought people might be interested in knowing the environment may be changing.

If I was caught, jailed and summarily kicked out of the country because of mongering, I will be fired immediately by my company back home because of the business disruption and embarrassment I caused. Having an arrest, deportation and termination like that in your resume will be a career killer. The cost will not be worth it even if the session was with the most enticing fashion model or movie star.
