I have heard of Cafe Photo, Scandallo, Bamboa 222, ect these high end boate for a long time. But never take the time to check them out until my last trip to Sao Paulo. I decided to take a look at these luxury boates.
Scandallo location is quite far to the east of the city near Ipiranga. If you go from Jardin or Paulista is really a long taxi drive. All the taxi drivers know this place. I think this place must have quite a lot of foreign customers, there are several clerks that speak good English. They explained to me the system. There is entrance fee of 220, and this includes food and drinks, not sure how much is included, I did not get what they said. Then there is the short time room available, cost is 200 for an hour.
I think I arrived maybe too early, only me and 3 other customers. This place was dark compared to cafe Photo. There were about 30 girls at early time, but later more came in, and around 11, lots of customers suddenly poured in and was quite crowded. I could not really see well the faces of the girls, so I walked around and came closer to the girls. Many of them were quite pretty and I found a few my slender type. I narrowed it down to 2 and started my interview. First girl, very basic English, slim body, no baby, young, morena, Italian descent, asked me 600, but after bargain, willing to go at 500. Get an ATM card with so many waived ATM fees per month and no foreign exchange transaction fees. This is also a good idea to get a credit card with no foreign exchange transaction fees (they add up on charges). It's more convenient than finding a cambio with fair rates and no transaction fee. I'm not sure why people quibble with this basic recommendation which you find on travel sites.
There are definitely exceptions to this recommendation.
1) I feel more comfortable having cash on hand when I travel. I don't want to deal with the hassle of getting a card re-issued if there is fraud.
2) I have a cash business and I party like a rock star on my cash when I travel.
3) The country in question has a currency black market (Cuba) or some kind of controlled parallel currency market (Brazil in the 80's / early 90's). Thirty years ago, there were far more countries where large black markets for currency. Sensibly, the local hookers always wanted Dollars.
It's unlikely that you're going to get discounts for offering cash Dollars. That's kind of a gringo idea that everyone wants Dollars.
