That is where the market is in Mayorista, but to find the wholesale fruit, and vegtable market would be a little hard to find as it is located a ways from the entrance. There are many outlets for different types of goods in that area.

as a matter of fact, medellin is more a day-oriented city. as most restaurants close early (to the latin standard) , most casas are open only at day time. the centro itself turns to be quite dangerous at night, and it's not for everyone (i am one of those who used to walk alone around the centro till 2am, as i duly reported years ago).
if one goes to medellin for work, and not for spending a happy week hopping from casa to casa daytime, what are the available options (i mean for p4p)?
the following options come to my mind, but i am sure that someone of those how spend there many days a year may provide plenty more information, if they just take the time to write a good article:
- bars in el centro around plaza botero and el raudal (if anyone feels comfortable to go around there at night)
- sws in el centro, perpetuo socorro, san diego.
- mayorista.
- phase ii and any more?
- anything else?

Several existing sites have a directory of all the bars and clubs, however for my Medellin nightlife directory, I'm building a list from personal experience and recommendations by Colombian friends.
As a rule of thumb, when it comes to nightlife in Medellin, the farther away from Parque Lleras you venture, the less likely you'll be sharing the bar or club with other foreigners. All venues are within Medellin city limits, unless otherwise noted.
Sample Week.
New to town and want to start partying in Medellin right away, regardless of the night? Options are limited early in the week, however here are a few suggestions to help you find Medellin's party people:

3 Cordilleras Brewery. Calle 30, #44 176, Barrio Industriales. Three great types of beer on tap Wheat (light) , American Pale (medium) and Amber Ale (dark). Thursday nights draw a happy hour crowd. 15, 000 COP entry gets you 5 beers, plus an optional tour. Hours: 5:30 9 pm. The last Thursday of each month features a live band too.
Arte Vivo. Calle 25 #43G 25. Barrio Colombia. Rock bar with live bands.
Bolero Bar Carrera 67B, #51A 98. A historic little bar known for attracting musicians, writers and artists visiting Medellin. The bar has published several books (in Spanish) filled with short stories by the bar's well known patrons.
Theaters.
There are tons of theaters in Medellin, offering inexpensive and sometimes free performances (Teatro Lido) every week. Here are a few of the more well known and popular theaters. A schedule of events can be found on each website, though it is in Spanish.

Teatro Lido popular, centrally located theater hosts free events such as movies, bands and dance performances.

Teatro Metropolitano de Medellin
Teatro Universidad de Medellin located on the University of Medellin campus, it is a little farther from the city center than the other major theaters.
