Hello All!
I am planning a trip to Puerto Galera in a couple of weeks and after RTFF'ing still have a few questions if any one can share the wealth.
I found out there are no ATM's on the island, so in planning my trip I need to make sure I bring along enough cash. Can anyone give my an idea of what the attentions of a lass might equate to for a ST or LT visit? Also if you have a general (or specific view if you like) of the quality/quantity of the offerings at Sabang or White beach. Those are the only two places I am remotely familiar with in Galera.
This is my first trip to the area, so I am truly clueless as to how much meals cost, booze, etc.
Thanks for the help!
Sky
I spent a week their last month....quite a few bars in both the places you mentioned....Sabang seems to be the place that is hoping with activity when compared to Galera. The normal bar fines apply....you need to neogitate your best price if you go that route…many gals available during the daylight hours and you’ll have many approach you as you’re walking around with offers for both LT/ST.
Almost all of the motels/hotels are girl friendly as I would see the same guys daily with different women when they were out and about.
I would not go for a ST as I might be disappointed in her skills! Better to swap out unless she really gets you going the first time around and is a keeper. Money? You have to remember, their job is to separate you from as much of your money as possible! You need to counter…what one guy pays or has paid does not mean you get the same deal.
I went their without a reservation…when I got off the boat…I walked up and down the beach checking on prices and ended up paying 1000 pesos a day with breakfast included…some places wanted 1500 a day. I stayed at Villa Sabang as I wanted a swimming pool….and many gals hung around during the day.
Food was GREAT! German owned and did I say the food was great!? I don’t remember what the booze cost as I did not really care one way or another as I was going to buy it anyway. ATM’s? I brought along enough pesos/dollars to last me and have a good time. The motel has safes in the rooms. I also rented a 250cc motorcycle to get around….under 800 pesos a day.

A good post by Ben2,
Walking up and down the beach looking for a room is not enjoyable if it is hot and you are carrying some stuff. I've done it before, and will do it again, but try to get as much info in advance as you possibly can.
Maybe things have changed, but I remember the boat to PG being full of touts trying to get you into their hotel. Go ahead and talk to them, get some cards, but you'll be better off walking the walk as Ben2 explains.

Thanks for the info, I have a hotel reserved, I was hoping to find out what a "the normal bar fine" would be..........or a ball park for ST/LT

Sabang
In the four or five "discos" in Sabang the fee was 2000P for early release. There is an ATM in Puerto Galera, as well as in Batangas at the pier. The travel agency in Sabang will give you a cash advance on your Visa for a mere 7% surcharge, better to stock up at the ATM, there are a couple of money changers there taking most major currencies.
There are freelancers around and about, mostly at the 24 hour restaurant bar Eddies, where the boats from Batangas load and unload. The Big Apple at the other end is another 24 hour place where you can meet freelancers. The freelancers are fun, commonly referred to as "hunting girls", but tough to get rid of, as they like to move in with you if you are not firm. $1000P a day for their services plus meals and drinks. If you let them stay with you, many of them will take over cleaning, laundry, cooking, as most of the hotels have kitchen, fridges in the rooms.
As far as hotels, I would say all are girl friendly. There are a lot of touts looking for a commision on hotel sales. If you are going to be there for a while, a week or more, check into someplace, drop your luggage, have a few san miguels, than walk around looking at places. Low season now, so should not be a problem. I was comfortable in a fan room paying $700P, the rates should be lower now.
I enjoyed Sabang, large ex-pat community, who like to meet up at a bar past the Big Apple towards Big Laguna, owned by a Swede, with a happy hour from 4-6, 25P San Miguels, forget the name of it. Some interesting characters.
Would be interested in other places in the Phils similar to Sabang, any thoughts from those of you with first hand experience?

Btw, have you ever actually seen this gal you are planning to meet? There seems to be quite a local scam involving baklas impersonating young ladies for the purpose extracting money from long distance b. F.'s. I read about a man who came all the way from Texas to meet this Filipina in Ozamiz but unfortunately discovered the lady did not exist.
Anyway, good luck with your trip.

Here's a list of Ozamis hotels from Wikipedia.org

Really, you should use your search engine for hotels rather than query this board, unless you need specific advice, such as "girl-friendly". For central location near the downtown mall, there is a hotel that serves the few foreign visitors, I think it's called the Palace. Yes, it is GF.
And any place you visit, don't put all your bets on one chat mate. Easy enough to line up 3 or 4 if you begin a week or two in advice on one of the dating sites.

Just a suggestion, but I would have this lady meet you in CDO rather than you going to her place Ozamiz which is up there on the illigan peninsula,I was up there years ago not much there as it is a bit off the path for regular tourists. CDO (where I've been many times) will be easier for you to get
around, besides you can see if she really is a Lady, if you get stiffed, you have a fall back position CDO has a few mongering spots and plenty of Lonely Ladies looking for nice foreigners to pay the bills.
There are cars and van who take passengers up there but most folks take the bus because it is cheaper, your GF can make a much better deal on your behalf.

Smaller City Options
I am considering retiring in the P. I. And would like to find a smaller city with less pollution, traffic and noise than the major cities. Wishing to have my cake and eat it also, can any of the more experienced mongers here tell me which smaller cities or even towns offer the best and easiest free-lance or g/f action. I am tired of clubs and bars and prefer to make my own arrangements, usually pretty successful at this, but I don't want some conservative place either where the women are all worried about the gossip that will follow them. A cooler place would be great also (relatively speaking, I know most all of the Country is hot).
I am lookng at CDO now, so far looks like my best bet. Not much interested in Cebu, Davao, Manila or Angeles. Any helpful information most welcomed.
Thanks

Thanks
Well based on the cooler criteria worst places than Baguio. Good number of and high familiarity with expats. Cool climate thats really quite nice. Lots of college students who form a permanently drifting population. Not that many clubs but a few here and there. Decent housing available.
Negative side is lots of pollution in some areas due to the cheap diesel thats used in jeepneys and the steep hills. Bad traffic but thats everywhere. Ocassionally Baguio is cut off due to landslides on Kennon Road and no flights any more I think from their fog bound airport.
Beaches only one hours drive away with lots places to take little honeys. Worth a thought at least.

In my opinion, CDO is a good choice. In fact, I'm there now and I always enjoy the city. It's just large enough to have pretty much everything you want or need, yet small enough to be navigable. The people are friendly, and it's quite safe. A much smaller city, that is highly recommended by some is Butuan, which is east of CDO by about 5 hours if you drive. It's not cold by any means, but it's said to have some nice beaches, it has at least one Gaisano mall, and it's also friendly and peaceful, though too small for my tastes as a place to live.
Dipolog City and Pagadian, also both in Mindanao, may be worth checking out. I've been to Dipolog but never to Pagadian. It's reasonably small as cities go, and safe and friendly as well. I live in Davao which, again for my tastes, is superior to all of the aforementioned.

ALL THE HOTELS in Boracay are Girl friendly, there aren't many "pro's" working the bars and no 'bar fine' go go joints, like the rest of the Phils. Boracay is usually Bring your own, however, I have noticed that cocomangas has a number of freelancers working the crowd, nothing great, never got details, Mrs Spamhog was along and she doesn't let me date.

Please excuse my lack of geographical knowledge about the PPs, but where is CDO and what is the full name?
