Some of the best thai food is to be found in North Thailand and also in Chian Mai. You'll find a lot of restaurants in the city and also outside the city where you can buy very good thai food to very reasonable prices.

After having a rocking time in pattaya and BKK, taka heads for the unknown in Chiang Mai.
ACCOMODATION: I travelled by train. It's a long journey but can be interesting depending on who you meet. Once at Chiang Mai you will meet various touts asking to take you to this or that guesthouse. There is even a board with the names of the various guesthouses. My coice was Lai Thai close to the moat. At 670B/night it's not too bad. The swimming pool is great.
THINGS TO DO: If you're a newbie take time to check out various tours..I would go for the Golden Triangle Tour and one day Trekking. Lots to see, lots to do..
FOOD: Unlike what was reported recently in the forum, Thai food in Chiang Mai is excellent.
MONGERING: When I planned my trip, I didn't envisage visiting Chiang Mai but i found my way around. There are many beer bars, especially those located around the Thai Boxing Ring. Bar Fines are around 400B with girls asking from 1000B-1500B/long time. If they ask for more put down the price and remain firm (always smiling of course).
