Please talk to me about the wifi
Being that I work for my company from home, I'm thinking of doing a week at Blackbeards, without my company knowing that I left the country. When I did Blackbeards back in 2009, I also tried something similar, but the problem was that the wifi at Blackbeards was only decent when I sat outside my room. In my room, it was horrible due to the brick walls. For the telephone, I used magicjack back then, but that depended on the internet, so since I had to sit outside and outside had a lot of noise, well let's just say things didn't go well. People being heard speaking spanish in the background is a little suspicious, right? So for 2019, can someone please give their opinion on the wifi and if it works well within the room? I really need to work within a quiet room, then have a lot of fun with the girls at night. Also any suggestion concerning the phone, where I don't have to depend on the wifi, but the price for the call will still be low calling the Usa from DR?
Thanks for your help!
Wifi is much better than before.
However, you WILL have a few interruptions in service every day, some will last a few minutes, others a few hours. Local sim card with 4 g is a must in your case. Data package are reasonably priced in DR.

Nice informative summary.
I am planning to visit June 1st week. BB sold out for few days and searching similar one around. Please share if you know similar to BB.
Much thanks to the reviews and guidance from those who plowed this path before. My observations from 2 weeks at BB.
1. Airport: POP is a small and easy airport. The 50 DOP / USD exchange rate makes transactions bilingually fluent. In fact, at the Bar Room where I had lunch, they were short on DOP and had to provide change in USD. Didn't touch the exchange booths at the airport. True anywhere you can do better on rates if you can hold off.
2. Transit: credit to Colbert1 for recommending Nexus Tours. 22 USD roundtrip. I had plenty of what-ifs running through my head but everything was smooth as can be. Both shuttles were well AC'd. 3 others on the shuttle going, me solo coming back so very comfortable. Out of the airport, it was even easier than looking for a guy in in orange shirt at the airport since they had a booth right outside the doors. My flight was delayed 2 hours but they didn't blink an eye. Greeter spoke great English. On the return, the driver was 10 minutes early and pick-up was directly in front of BB. The only hassle didn't have to do with Nexus Tours but figuring out how to use the phone card + BB house phone to confirm the reservation 24 hours ahead of my departure. Fortunately, the staff helped me on punching in the phone card procedures. Never had to touch a taxi...
