Chernobyl is pretty close to Kiev like about 100km and the real effects of the nuclear reactor accident are still not known exactly, as the outcomes and records have been hidden by the Soviet Union government, as it happens in many countries.

Moreover, that incident is just one that has come to the surface and there have been some others as well that couldn't have been disclosed up to today.

Kiev doesn't resemble any other city and has its own style of flavour with the endless opportunities of nightlife and mongering, but it's very difficult to describe in a few words or sentences..

You'll get acquainted with this idea or notion immediately after having visited Kiev for the first time...

Kiev specially the center is a very european City, with a special flavour that makes it be one of the most lovely cityes i have ever visited. For me Kreschatik and Independence square is one of the most beautiful streets in the world Kiev sorroundings are much more soviet style, big ugly buildings typycal soviet urbanism. But Kiev is over all a very alive city. I was there firt time in 2001, and in 3 years I have visited it about ten times, each one you see changes everywhere, more shops, more modern cars. In my first trips was full of old Ladas and staying close to roads and showing your hand any car stopped to make independent taxi services at low cost, now it is almost the same but you need to wait much more and each day you see less old ladas.

About Chernobil, although the radiation level of Kiev is under danger levels, it is much higher than in other european towns. When the weather is hot without air movement I use to feel problems in my throat and also feel sleepy and everybody tell me is cause of radiation, not dangerous but much higher level to the ones we are used to live with in western europe.

People have been allways nice with me everywhere in Kiev, but ADVICE for tourists, if you watch money in the floor NEVER take it, and if a guy takes it in front of you and offers you halkf of the money, smile to him and tell him NO, or you will be in serious troubles. Three times someone tryed to do this with me

Kyiv was fortunate that the wind was blowing in the right direction for Ukraine at the time of the meltdown. That was bad news for Belarus.

Officially you're told not to touch the water in the Dnipr river as it comes from up-land (Chernobyl way), and put the swimming trunks away!! Belarus don't produce nearly as much veg now as it used to!!

I agree with Vegamars that Kyiv is like no other city. It is more (and they'll hate me saying this) Moscow than Prague, and certainly not Moldovan, but simply unlike any other city. Try, enjoy, smile!

After many FKK trips to Germany, I am poised to move up to Kiev. The only time I am able to go, though, is the first week in December. What can I expect for weather, and what sort of clothing should I wear to be comfortable and fit in? I was thinking of getting a long wool coat to wear over dark business casual clothing. I'm trying to look nice and above average, without standing out as a tourist, org. crime, etc.

Yes, you have to be very very careful with the 'money on the ground trick'. They will want to shake your hand and share it with you. Sure, you can shake hands, but don't touch the money. Often another man will come from across the street and ask for your help. KEEP WALKING. Then they will suggest you go to the policeman. Go another direction. This has happened to me many times in Kiev already, as I am clearly a tourist. It is very very common near O'Brien's Irish Pub.

Well I have been reading this board for a few years now. Been going to Kiev for about 4 years I think. I do not post that much. I know some but after seeing the changes over the short time I have been goin. I guess things change weather you let the secret out or not.
I can remember my first trip there. I had done some research on brama and found an appartment,guide and had it all worked out or so I thought. I am just a poor good ole boy from the hills of West Virginia. So I was goin tohave a nice time and explore. So yeah some of my dress Said AMERICAN here. I went in February. Was cold but still had fun. Did not find this board till I got back from the first trip. Some of my cloths were yes you might think I'm nuts but Flanel/plad. Go ahead laugh. Still I found this off the wall bar Cowboy club and had a nice time met a few ladies in there and explored the city and them. Thus began my facination with the Country. So here it is 4 years later and I try to make atleast on 10 day trip if not more a year. I have done the pro sceene and free scene. Depends on my mood at the time or how hot she is. I mean come on guys if she is in your sights does it really matter if she is pro or not. Although I can say this, I find it so much easier to approach the women and easy to get freebies there then in US. Some may be looking for the green card but who cares. They are hot and IF the good lord willin goin back to my flat with me.
I have visited many clubs there. Still its much fun to just pick a direction andgo with it. Guess I just have a sence of adventure or plain reckless. Still I am a fairly big boy 6'4 and stocky and can handle myself if I have to. So I just watch for trouble and avoid places that seem like trouble. Have not really had any trouble to speak of other then routine hassels from customs or maybe from a patroling police nothing a dollar or 3 didn't cure. All in all I love Ukraine and find it hard to move on from there. I mean the women are so nice and beautiful. Well I hope my rabbleing is not to much for ya'll to take. Just figured I would let you know if you see what looks like a hill billy walkin the streets of Kiev It is prolly me.

Kiev is nothing like Prague ... Prague is very European and is filled with hordes or tourist year round. Kiev is very soviet and quite russian (its the mother city for the Eastern Slavs). It reminds me in personality to Moscow 7 or 8 years ago.

Mustang: in my experience the women go for guys who look like wealthy foreign businessmen. I always tend to do Moscow and Kiev fairly formally. A suit less the tie works well - as does a nice watch nice shoes etc.. A overcoat in December is a must. Other guys do well dressed less formally, but I guess it comes down to (a) what kind of audience are you hoping to get and (b) how well you fit the image of your clothes.

One piece of advice I got years ago which still seems to hold true, is to show all the girls in a bar you are a foreigner, you drink Corona, from the bottle. No local guys ever do that. Then see which girls have noted that and move in on them.

Actually most parts of Kiev don't look like Russian and that's what makes it so special and different.

The city looks like Budapest as a whole and especially the center resembles Paris.

I think it's the most beautiful city in Europe together with Minsk and Budapest.

However, the endless opportunities of nightlife and beauties by far outscore the so-called-similar-mentioned locations....

I'm a young engineer in western Virginia (sorry Arm.) and I can look the part of western professional. My budget doesn't exactly cover Italian suits, though. I've had my share of FKK girls, so I'm sort of after the local girls for a change. I've read the past years' posts, so I've go a good idea what to expect.

Another question: Apartments. THere have been some favorable posts about uaapartments.com. But they seem to have an average selection of apartments. One other, apartments.com.ua, had much better selection but wanted deposit by western union, and I'm not comfortable with that. Does anyone have another favorite agency, and are there any to stay away from?

Well, I just got back from my second trip to Kiev. Some brief comments follow, hopefully some of which may be slightly useful.

I arrived after flying AeroSvit from Budapest to Kiev. This airline is very good value. Reliable planes and good prices from many European destinations. Have no fears flying with these guys.

I took an apartment with [url]www.uaapartments.com[/url] having read many glowing reviews from people. I would definitely NOT recommend them after my experience, but I will just provide the facts of my experience and let you decide for yourself. I took an apartment which they recommended more than once to me. It had big, but had old furniture and facilities, an ancient washing machine, cable Tv which did not work (which they refused to help me with). Disgracefully, less than 50% of the lights in the apartment worked, to the extent that there were no functioning lights in the bedroom. The website promises a lot but they deliver little. E.g. Promised maid service after 3 days - this was not delivered. Their service is great prior to arrival but once they get your money, forget about it. And to wrap it up, I left my phone in the apartment and they refuse to search for it and give it back to me. I'm sure its been sold, or reused in the company (look for a snazzy Samsung E700 if you hire a phone from them- its mine!) I know many people have had good experiences with them, but this was my experience and I would not go with them again. I met a lovely girl in Kiev who does her own apartment rentals and I will go with her in future. If anyone is interested I can provide contact details. I can vouch for her honesty, but not for her apartments, yet.

Anyway, I'm pissed off, so sorry about that rambling. Onto the good stuff - upon arrival I felt like some pre-dinner fun, so I called GIA Agency and asked for my 'usual', a lovely girl called Larissa. $70 for an hour, including bbbj cim twice, and anal included too. It seems to be a country getting richer and richer, and there are some very wealthy beautiful women that just don't give a crap about us foreigners, as their ukrainian (possibly mafia) boyfriends could probably buy far more than most of us can.

Anyway, so that was Kiev for me. Great nightclubs as per usual, great girls....and I wish I knew Russian. Oh, and Halloween is an awesome time to be there. They take it as a huge party. Opium club had a huge party - so many hotties! HAVE FUN!

I just wanted to reply back to you in regards to the "money on the floor" issue. The same thing happened to me the first time I went to Moscow about a year ago. Near the Kremlin, one dude walked passed me under one of the tunnels and dropped a bag with dollars in it (it seemed). I just kept walking but suddenly another guy appeared out of nowhere and grabbed the bag and acted like he was happy about finding it. I knew that it was some kind of set up so I kept walking. However, that one guy would not leave me alone so I came up near a very busy street and mentioned "Militza" and he and his friend left. Nevertheless, I freaked out and headed back to my hotel. This is probably the only sour experience I had in Moscow and don't want to run into it again. I am taking a break from Russia for now.

I was just living around the corner on Saksahanskoho. There are so many restaurants on that street you will have plenty of choices. And Opium night club is nice and close, at the end of the street near the Palace of Sports. Cocktail Bar 111 is also close, towards the other end of Saksahanskoho. John Bull is nice and close, but for that type of pub, I prefer going to Mikhailovskaya where you will find O'Brien's. Plenty of English speakers there. I found in Kiev you could find friendly locals to talk to pretty much everywhere. Its just a matter of going to talk to them and seeing if they spoke English. Oh, and literally in the last 3 weeks I was in Budapest - Kiev - Minsk, in that order. They are all unique in their own right. My view: Budapest is the most tourist attractive, Kiev is the most fun, Minsk is not for the first-time traveller; but man, is it cheap!

Arrived Borispol October 13 , cleared costumes with no problem taxi was waiting form me took me to my apartment that I rented from uuapartments dimitri was waiting for me he took the money and left.

I only had two free days to monger until my date arrived from Russia, my apartment was small but at a great location on Horodetskoho Street, Kreschatyk and the Maidan.

For those who want to call back home get the Extreme telephone card it works great costs approximately 0.37 cents per minute to call USA.

First night took a taxi to the Queen bee strip club and sauna , its a 20 minutes ride from the maidan and costed me 20 Grivna, its a two storry building very clean in and out looks as good as our clubs in Los Angeles :)
