My favourite is the Victoria Regia Sofitel, very well situated at the hedge of the zona rosa where you can find Restaurants and night clubs for music and Rumbas.
You have clubs very close (turn right and then left) but expansives.
This area is probably the safest of Bogota.
The hotel service is first class.
The hotel is in a small carrera with little traffic so little noise.
The Andino Mall, The Atlantis Mall and the Retiro Mall are very close (walking distance less than 5 minutes).
Other options :
- La fontana, in front of the Unicentro mall, very good service in a very big hotel, but there is not much actions at a walking distance except the mall.
- The Radisson, in front of the Hacienda Santa Barbara, a very nice and upscale Mall, but once again, this hotel is very isolated.
- El Tequendama (Intercontinental), very good hotel but in a bad part of the city.
Close from the best place for action (Santa Fe).

Col Bog, just to let you know the ZR is good and convenient but one should NOT let one's guard down. It's actually one of the worst areas of the whole city for muggings because of the preponderance of tourists and drunks. Don't walk around drunk and alone there, you could find your pocket picked or worse.
Rodeo, what are you suggesting, you have to pass security in El Dorado just like in any other airport! That's not something a couple thousand pesos is going to get you out of. Why would you be unduly worried about them stealing your laptop anyways? I've taken a laptop each time, never a problem.

Do the same you should be doing everywhere else: never place you laptop on the conveyer until the previous person has cleared the metal detector, then allow it to enter the xray before you enter the detector.

Rodeo[/QUOTE]The only metal detector to go through in the airport in Bogota is when you are leaving on an outbound flight (international or domestic). When you come into the country you clear immigration, then you collect your luggage and walk over to the customs officer to hand in your form. They give you your copy. You walk maybe 5 paces to the military guys who run the x-ray machines. You put your bag onto the conveyor belt. It is only two steps to the other side so you will see your computer coming out. Then you pick it up and walk outside to get a ride.
I was at Abado's a while back for an energetic session with my new favorite. When I came out, I walked back down the hall and passed the seamstress shop at the end of the hall right before the stairs and saw a family with a little girl being fitted for a First Communion dress. If I were a religious man, I might have actually thought that was a sign to repent!
This actually makes me wonder what the neighbors must think, especially the shopowners and clerks of the stores below Abado's. The floors and walls are pretty flimsy, and I can feel the whole place shake and rock when a monger in the neighboring cubicle really gets going with his masajista, so I'm sure the people downstairs can as well. Imagine trying to sell your cell phones while hearing and feeling that noise all day long.
