Angeles City

What are some of your opinions regarding buying a motorbike while living in good old Angeles city? The reason I ask is because USA has such a dam high death rate with motorbikes and injuries and I can't imagine it being any better in Angeles and probably a hella lot worse. Add into the mix the high temptation to go out drinking then wanting to drive after and I think it might be less of a good idea. However I'm paying roughly 100 to 150 peso per trip so assuming I am paying 300 peso per day for a taxi and I buy a bike for 50, 000 peso thats only 166 days until break even point.

I of course understand that's a bit simplistic since you have to consider possible shake downs, insurance, maintenance and gas but its a rough model, thoughts?

So far I ride a big bike in Malaysia and Singapore without problems. And I've rented scooters in Phuket, Pattaya and Phnom Penh, also without hassles. But not yet in the Philippines.

Is it pretty much okay or an everyday suicide attempt?

I am a Singaporean expat living and working in Vietnam, where I own and operate a motorbike for personal use only. Ie I don't commute to and from work on it. Neither will I ride it outside Ho Chi Minh City boundaries. I am a regular traveller to the PI, and have rented motorbikes in Boracay. Here's my 2 pesos:

If you live full time in AC and consider only the fact that by your estimate, it would take 6 months to 'break even', then by all means, get it. However, here's the big 'but' in the equation: understand that ultimately, you are taking a risk whenever you get on that bike, by riding in a country with poor road infrastructure, amongst locals who do not regard road rules as you do, especially with regards to drinking and driving / riding.

Look into insurance, before you decide. A 'western' type insurance policy such as that you would expect in the US, would likely not be available, as the big companies would not want to underwrite the risk. You're probably looking at a more 'local' plan with small premiums and peanut payouts because of the high risk. Anyway, It's all based on statistics, right? ie the number of fatalities involving motorbikes, probability of claim, etc.

If that doesn't put you off getting a bike then do so, but remember to abide by a few simple rules as I do here in VN: if you're planning on barhopping, leave the bike at home. No riding on the NLEX or SLEX, ie not beyond AC boundaries and certainly no road trips to Manila. Lastly, consider getting a used bike, less than 2 yrs old is fine.

If your life is worth more then $8 a day then you have your answer. Drinking and motorbikes plus AC roads, crazy locals, crazier cops all adds up but bottom line is you are spending less then EIGHT dollars a DAY! By the way if you leave there I am sure you can have some sort of service if half that if you are a regular how big is AC anyway LOL.

I want an honest opinion of which is a better place to monger for a few days. I heard great things about Angles city and Thailand. The only factor right now is, Thailand is more expensive to travel to or me then Philippines? Which is a better mongering scene and which gives you more bang for your buck?

Higher percentage of attractive, inviting women and much better food. The best thing about the Philippines is the unspoiled beaches, but that has nothing to do with women. Overall I guess I just prefer Buddhist culture and women over a Christian culture and women. Filipinas remind me too much of Latina girls I can get back home in Florida. Also due to their junk food diet, too many PI girls have tummy roll.

The bottom line is anyone who travels to Asia regularly eventually visits both countries. Diversity is a good thing. I enjoy PI and I doubt you can find anyone on this forum who says they don't have a good time in the Philippines, but overall I think Thailand is better.

As to best bang for the buck...I think AC wins that contest over Pattaya, but if you want to stay at ABC or Lewis your costs will rise.

I will be back in South East Asia in February for my big 6 week fuckfest extravaganza, visiting Macau (expensive, but fantastic women) AC, Cebu and Manila (looking forward to it), and then Pattaya and BKK (I can't visit Asia and not go here). I hope this helps. If not, just pick a place PI or Thailand and go. You can't make a wrong decision on this.

I have seen a lot of photos of Thai workers and they look amazing. The PI girls look great too in my opinion, but I think the only reason I would go there is for the fun. I have to look into the cost of staying in AC, as I was considering Manila. I am thinking a two day trip would be fun, great if I could find a generic V pill. We will see what happens.

Planning my annual trip to the Phillipines which may include a trip to Angeles.

Can anyone who is, or has been, there during the raids weigh in with some on any info regarding the climate (not meteorically). I want to know whats the scene is like before I book my hotlel. I find it interesing that, after reading other web sites, there seems to be little comment on this thread.

4. Good infrastructure.

5. Buddhism.

6. Don't like foreigners.

7. Loose prostitution laws for foreigners.

8. Language barrier.

9. Relatively smart people.

10. Serious tourism industry.

Phil:

1. Chubby women

2. A bit cheaper.

3. Bad food.

4. Bad infrastructure.

5. Catholisism.

6. More foreigner friendly (not as much hatred)

7. Stricter prostitution laws.

8. Speak English.

9. Dumb people.

Let me tell ya. You need to experience both and figure it out for yourself. No amount of suggestions from forummers will have any worth to you because no one can possibly know your unique tastes and preferances.

Airfare between the two countries are so cheap, there's no reason why you need to select one over the other. If you only have a few days off, select one location and save the other for your next vacation.

Here's a few insights from me.

Thai girls are clearly taller than Filipinas. But, unlike what others have said, I don't think Filipinas are particularly more chubby than Thais. IMO, Filipinas are only marginally chubbier. When I visited Pattaya for the first time, I was disappointed to see Thai girls were not as slender as I had imagined. That's because Thai chicks are also eating fast food and fried street food and giving birth.

What annoyed me most about Thai girls is, they tend to be heavily tattooed.

I don't believe Thai girls have an anti-foreigner attitude. They're just not as fascinated with American culture as their Filipina counterparts. Because Thais have more of an Asian-centric view, they seem to more receptive to Asian men than Western men.

I think you should visit Pattaya first to bang as much girls as possible. Then, once the thrill has worn off, go to Angeles City to have more of a girlfriend experience. That would be a complete sex vacation.

Everytime I go outside of my apartment there are about dozens of girls looking for a foreign guy.

They are too friendly and fall in love too easy.

And they don't dance naked on stage.

Pattaya they dance naked and the bodies are hot. (I am also okay with the tattoo girls. If they are skinny)

I only go to Thailand for some variety. And usually take a bi filipina girlfriend with me.

Anyway I guess I should not worry there are enough girls here so I won't get left out if more people discover angeles.

Be careful how you behave in public places don't get attention to your self.

And wait till you get to your room with the girls and have fun.

I still bar hop and no real issues other then getting a girl that really excites me.

Carry copy of your passport and keep most money in safe of good hotel.
