That's a very "passive" way at looking at things, but maybe it is because I am an American. If we happen to be in town at the same time I'll be sure to let others know that it is perfectly okay (with you) to crank the shit out of their music at your table during breakfast, LOL.
Carry on.
Yeah, but I won't be sitting there listening to it. If passive is leaving them to it, and moving on, then that's me.
I don't condone bad behaviour, and I don't put up with it either. But I always leave the complaining to the guys that are experts at it. Besides, its the owners who make the rules (and the money) If they can't figure it out, why should I care?
But get in my face or mess with Princessa, and even at my advanced age, I won't hesitate to throw a punch (if there's a good chance somebody will rush in and seperate us before I get hurt. LOL)
Life's too short to spend my vacation getting myself all worked up about bad puta service, hustlers, bar tab ripoffs, taxi ripoffs, bad car rentals, poor wi fi, bad behaviour around a hotel full of mongers and putas, crooked cops and lack of sleep, which are reported here regularly.
Funny, none of that stuff ever happens to me.
Wonder why?
But stick to your "American" ideals, good buddy, You just might be able to change the world, even Sosua. LOL
You guessed right! I want to be "invisible": relax, do my own thing at my own pace and not have to deal with aggravating factors if I can help it. (smiley) .
Sounds like me a couple of years ago, when I first came here.
As you see there's lots if good info and advice from the guys here. I spent my first few nights at the Casa Valeria, and it's exactly as described in the other posts. The big advantage is that it is good value (Dutch) clean and only around the corner from all the action. No transportation required.
Its a good base for checking out what Sosua has to offer, and a short walk will take you past the other hotels mentioned here, so you can check them out for your next trip. (I'm betting there will be another trip)
The 1 Queen 1 adult should be perfect for most mongers. Just tell your wing man to get his own damn room, LOL. And no, they will not charge you for bringing guest (chicas) even if she spends the night. If you show up at the check-in counter upon arrival to Sosua with a chica (like if she was waiting for you at the airport) just be sure to let them know that she is not staying with you (not your girlfriend or wife) and you should be fine.
Thanks SavePros,
I always travel solo, so the wing man won't be an issue. I thank you for clearing that up. Last trip in April, Jenny at the NG gave my reserved room to someone else. Yes, I was pissed, but Jenny is too fucking cute to slap around.
Some of the usual places like New Garden will be a no-no. College days are long, long gone. Sadly! . I love music (no hip hop though. Love reggaeton. In the discos. Great grinding music if you know what I mean) but not first thing in the morning either. (smiley).
I've stayed at the NG three times within the last year, and did not have any trouble with the noise, frat parties, and such not. I did have a problem once with room reservations, but it was corrected as necessary. I do like the staff and the service has always been excellent. So I personally would not write off NG on the hotel list. But it is your list, so have at it.

This may not be an issue for everyone, but I changed rooms one time because the lock was broken and I saw that someone could enter my room through the balcony. The balconies are connected so a person could get on my balcony from another room. In general, I've been happy with the rooms and the service there. There were guys in the morning that would come down to brag about their escapades, but I just blocked out the noise. The breakfast is good, although I don't consider it free but rather built into the cost of the room, so I try to make every breakfast and each as much s possible.

Labor Day Weekend
My first time contemplating a trip to Sosua. Is Labor Day weekend worth the trip? Or hurricane season kills the atmosphere?

Lex
Labor day weekend is definitely worth the trip! Never had weather issues during Sept but keep an eye on the weather patters in case anything big happens. Due to weather patterns any Tropical Storms and things like this seem to hit the South Coast when they come. Read the forum, have a good time, don't overpay just because you're on vacation during labor day. haha Many "rainmakers" in Sosua during labor day weekend! lol

NG Breakfast?
The breakfast that is included with the price of your room@NG, is it a buffet? Do you order off a menu? Thanks!
The breakfast that is included with the price of your room@NG, is it a buffet? Do you order off a menu? Thanks!
Good breakfast and included in your room rate. There's a menu if you want more than the basics.
When I stayed next door at Casa Valeria, their waiter would always come in late and not get the coffee going till 8. 20, so I would walk up to NG. For those who need that early java fix the NG is definitely the place to get a good, cheap breakfast. Had to remind them though that I was not staying there, otherwise they'd never bring me a bill.
Circa 2009 anyways.

The food is excellent but limited but that is to be expected when it is "free". A sampling of availability from my lousy memory:
Eggs.
French toast.
Omelet.
Pancakes.
Homefries.
Fruit.
Juice.
Coffee.
Bacon.
Sausage.
Pussy. Haha only kidding

Lex
Hurricanes almost never hit the north coast, I think there has been one in thirty years. If you think about it a hurricane would have to pass to the north of the island and then turn and go south, hurricanes don't do that as a general rule.
The breakfast that is included with the price of your room@NG, is it a buffet? Do you order off a menu? Thanks!
No its not a buffet. Either eggs, homefries, and bacon or sausage. Also french toast. Juice, coffee and fruit also is standard. Friday evening they have a wonderful dinner buffet.
Usually I leave a 50 to 100 peso tip. But the last two trips I started tipping an American dollar. We have a tendecy to not realize that 50 pesos is more than a dollar because it looks like monopoly money. Being I paid 640usd for my flight last week, my very generous tipping habits will be more reasonable from now on.

DR this September
Hello, dear friends,
I am thinking of coming to DR this September for a week.
I am a first timer in DR and in need of information.
I am a single male (36yo) coming to have some fun get some sun etc'
Like most single males that comes to DR I am looking to practice safe sex with some lovely beautiful Dominican ladies (I prefer quality over numbers and I am willing to pay a little extra to get it).
I am not a party guy so I rather not hang around bars and disco for long than I have to find what I came for.
If I can do some scuba diving it can be cool (but not a must)
I speak basic + Spanish and can handle myself.
Location; I am thinking Sausa but after the police action I don't know.
How is Puerto Plata? I can arrange a 24 USD per night at the "Be live " not including food.
Or. Santo domingo, but am opened to other suggestions.
Thanks

Sun is shining. Maybe someone will make it rain later.
