I've also had good experiences with Steve's girls. Not the cheapest in the world, but some are quite hot and classy.

. Ended up swiping about 2 K USD on my cards and made me sign. T.
2000 USD for a 150 RMB screw?? And they steven's girls are expensive LOL.
Sorry about your troubles. I hope you got the cards cancelled in time.
SamCan.
I really do not share Hobbiest1's negative opinion of Shanghai. I have mongered in a good number of places around the world as well and I found the quality / price ratio in Shanghai to be unequaled.
As a matter of fact, I am seriously thinking of hinting to my boss that I may be willing to stay on this "hardship" assignment in Shanghai when it ends in 2 years (And how about a raise if I stay on in Shanghai, boss? You know it is hard to be a expat).
If I cannot swing that, I am putting Shanghai at the top of the list of my vacation spots, and want to do two trips here each year (unless LE turned Shanghai into a moribund Dongguan.).
By any chance was her name Lisa? What a piece of work she is. Way to represent your country Lisa. What a POS.
So I should have known better, here on business and staying at my friends apartment. I was staying so close to Nanjing Road I decided to try WeChat with some girls and see where it lead. I usually go to the high end massage / spa places, but this was my mistake. Big mistake.
This girl was very presentable and met me at the Apple Store on Nanjin Road. I thought I could bring her back to my apartment so we walked around and lunch together and she said she would bring me to meet some girls. We did and walked down an ally close to the Hagen Das and walked in and was brought upstairs. A line of girls came out and they said 300 RMB. I didn't like any of them and was about to leave. My girl said she needed to use the restroom and left. I'm with the manager and she said 150 RMB and I decided OK. After the deed was done 4 big local guys come in and start to shake me down.
Took my wallet, used my phone to check balances on my cards and bank account. Took my cards and swiped. They said they wanted 29 k RMB and I have no where near that amount. They held me there for some time and I tried my best to talk them down. Ended up swiping about 2 K USD on my cards and made me sign. They let me go and I immediately called my card companies and had them block the transaction and issue a new card.
Do not go to Nanjing Road.
Are the local small BBS safe? It's been two years since I've been back, so I'm unaware.
Careful out there.
The Hobbiest would be advised to RTTF to avoid any mistakes in the future.
Thanks! That is EPIC advice. I have read the last 2 years of forum threads. I was not really lamenting or complaining but just trying to help others with my bad experience. If you read the post after mine another guy was mugged the same way my friend was and the same general area. If Shanghai is your city, you should be pretty ashamed of it as it has more scammers than I have seen anywhere including Bangkok, Manilla, Panama and Tijuana. Your city is the shithole of the world. CONGRATS!

So the dude read two years' worth of forum thread, yet got scammed at Nanjing road. There's a post just about every 3rd page here crying over someone getting scammed or robbed at Nj road and he still still ventured out there? Are these Nanjing road scam posts in fine prints?
It's like calling LA the butthole of the universe because I ventured out to Compton and Inglewood in search of a BJ and got mugged.

Arizona and Beijing. Your responses are the epitome of Shanghai. I have been to many other places and the kind people on those boards were friendly. Your responses are as ugly as Shanghai itself!

Hobbist1 . How do you manage to come off as a cry baby and a bully at the same time. ? What annoyed me the most were your ignorant comments about bombing Shanghai. The Japanese military has already done this. "OUR JOBS" are gone due to economics. The Chinese ISG community is helpful to those that are receptive to that help and don't make blanket statements. Yes! It's a little bad, but all the good makes it worthwhile. If you had read enough of the forum you could have taken percautions. Don't pay your provider until she stays the entire time.

Maybe he was reading another board? (sarcasm)
BIG USA Call out to Sam, Bejing and Arizona for being so helpful and welcoming (sarcasm). You guys exemplify the reason why the East and West are so far divided (truth). I only wish I could have personally met any of you and looked you all in the eye. I can be very proud of what I did and where I am from. Yeah. Maybe I missed some posts. Shame on me. I take responsibility for that. Let me ask you. What do you take responsibility for? Do you seriously think that this bullshit in your shitbowl of a city can go on without repercussion? Really? Sooneror later some westerner will be sick of all your shit and take action. You all are just lucky I was a gentleman. Keep sponsoring acts of violence toward foreign visitors and lets see where that gets your country.
In your totally distorted view of the world you seem to think it is 'OK' that what happened to my friend and to a subsequent visitor was all "business as usual" because we didn't study the threads on all the dangers of Shanghai. I am biting my tongue now as I really can't relate to your thought process. You are truly very primitive and deserve everything that Shanghai provides you.
Thanks again and see you all in September.

To stay factual is what I need and got here often, anything else is useless and since we all are successful and nice guys.
We refrain from scam between us.
Have a nice time back home and cool down.
Gregory.

Newsflash:
- every country has tourist traps, you just happened to jump right in it.
Try going to a champagne bar in Pigale in Paris or London or wherever, the bill won't be any lighter.
- most posters you're accusing of "taking no responsibility for the violence against foreign visitors in their country". Are foreigners and this is not their country.
What everyone is telling you is that you're frustrated because you got scammed and everyone gets that but a better reading of the forum would have allowed you to get a much better experience and generalizing on the whole city or country will get you nowhere. Shanghai has a lot to bring once you understand how things work (best if you speak Chinese too). Much better than the destinations you quoted IMO but to each their own.
Sir,
This tells me more about you than it does about Shanghai.
I just returned from my first 2 week visit to Shanghai. First, a little about me. I have mongered in every corner of the world from Tijuana to Toronto, Manilla and Angeles City, Germany FKKs, Pananma etc. My latest. Shanghai. What a poor excuse for humanity. SERIOUSLY! Every single person is looking to scam you. Don't beleive me then just go and see. As far as the ladies. REALLY? What a fucking scam place. After I got scammed a couple times I used a site I thought was solid. SNL. NOPE! I had a girl come over to my hotel. She showed up, showered and left all within 20 minutes. I let the SNL guy know but he never even bothered to respond back to me. Don't use SNL, don't even go to Shanghai. This place totally sucks and you constantly have to watch your wallet. Hey Shanghai. I wish we blew you up too! You are a worthless area that will implode once we start to take jobs back to the US and stop with your f $% nonsense!
Go USA! H1.
H1.
I am starting to get an understanding on why Steven's girl stayed only 20 minutes with this guy. I am not sure it was all her.
This is actually a friendly forum. I have personally given much PM advice to anyone who asks. I also have received. I don't have a lot of tolerance for one post wonders who can't do their homework and even less so for those that visit a place once and bash a place without understanding it.
Good luck to you Hobbiest, Sincerely wishing you all the best in September.
If you want some advice for your September trip and find it too difficult to read the forum, PM me and I will help. No need to read the forums anymore. I'll bring the spoon for feeding.
