But the title is a bit misleading, because there IS no demise of Sosua. I was there until Thursday and there is no single feeling like walking into Classico's or the other discos in town and seeing the wide range of beautiful Dominican women, of all colors, shapes, and sizes at your beckoning.

Sosua is a good balance. It is a town without pretenses, where if all you want is P4P.- simply step outside of your hotel or to a local bar/disco.- and make your play. But we also have to remember that the tourist area is just a tiny piece of Sosua, and there are beautiful women in all parts of the city. A man with a bit of confidence, game, reasonably good looks and above all. Patience can have a respectable fling with a respectable Dominicana.

And above this, there are beaches, casinos, cheap beer, almost consistent sun.

Come on. Where is the demise?

My feeling is that most of the guys who drink there will continue to. I think Lou knows what he is doing.

Can anyone in Sosua at this time tell me how the Tropicana is doing these days.

The place never seemed to get busy until 11:00 and it has to close at 1:00 or 2:00, tough to make it work with only 2 hours of business per day.

The owner is decent guy, hope he can make it work through the slow season.

Your point is well taken. I guess if you read from my comments that I was predicting a demise - this wasn't my intention. Sosua will always have its advocates, its supporters and I know several guys who are "wordly" experienced, have some $$$ - but will travel no where else! They still love Sosua, always will.

Imo, as compared to past years - prices are up and quality is down overall. But it can still be found. Look at the photo gallery thread. I found my girl Daniella is Sosua, and I'd consider her to be reasonably good "quality".

If there is a drop-off in the popularity of Sosua in the coming years - it won't come from overpaying travelers who fly in from JFK, LGA, or EWR it will ultimately come from the jungles of Colombia!

There has been an astonishing improvement in the overall safety and security in that country due to Pres Uribe's "política de la mano duro" and travel has swelled to cities like Cartagena, Medellin, Bogota, Barranquilla as a result. Major airlines such as AA are increasing their scheduled flights to keep up with the increased demand, and the quality of the woman in this country has always been exquisite! :)

The emergence of Colombia as a viable "monger" destination (imo) threatens many of the popular DR locations and will continue to be a drag for years to come.

I´m going to Sosua on june 15, now I have some questions as my last visit was back in 2002.

I´m planing to take a Taxi from Puerto Plata to Sosua, whats a "normal" fare for this ride?

In 2002 the High Caribbean Disco was the place to go, what Clubs are "hot" today?
As everyone has to close at 1AM, will the bars/clubs open earlier than before?
Anyone has a town map of Sosua ?

I have to agree... having been to both and the flight only being 2 hours longer it is worth it... a lot of beauty and cheaper....

Can anyone tell me how far is Casa Linda from the action in Sosua? The villas there look beautiful and I like the fact that I have all the privacy I want. I never stayed near Sosua while in DR. I'm usually in Costambar and wanted to try something different when I return in the fall.

I also would like to know how far is Casa Linda from Cabarete and are there any good looking girls there? I keep hearing how beautiful it is there also.

And last is it necessary for me to rent a car or will a taxi be okay? Because my novia lives and works in POP and I might want to go grab her maybe a night or two on my visit, or ride to BB's and grab someone that I've been wanting but never had a chance to get because of some distractions. LOL!

A couple of answers.

Don Rapha - I was there last week. High Caribe is closed. (moss growing on steps) It opened recently for a short period of time but is closed again. Its sad I really liked that place. Its just not in a good location, alittle out of the way. The place now is the Merengue Bar and the Latino's Club. Both places close about 1am , 2am on weekends.

Then the action switches over to the Playa Chiquita Casino which (because of a series of envelopes given to the right government officials, no doubt) is exempt from the new ordinance and is open til 4 or 5am.

Nothing quite like Dominican law. :rolleyes:

A couple of answers.

Third World - Residencia Casa Linda is a stylish series of mini-homes located up a dirt road on the way out of Sosua headed towards Cabarete. The entire complex has 24 hour security and is gated.

The complex is fairly convenient to all but I sure wouldn't depend on taxi's. I would rent a car. Taking motoconchos back and forth from your place up that dirt road would be quite a chore and you said that you have a novia in POP - so you sure wouldn't want to be taking a cab there every night.

Cabarete didn't have much in the way of quality when I was there - it was all in Sosua.

Casa Linda will definitely "fill the bill" for security and privacy. You say the last time you were in the DR you stayed in Costambar (can't understand what in the "3rd" world you were doing there ;)- talk about the middle of nowhere - I assume you were at BB's) , this trip you will be much more centrally located and much closer to the action! :)

I actually stayed at the Caribbean Sun apartments last month in Costambar but did make several trips around the corner when my novia left to go to work! LOL!

I did BB's a couple times and don't get me wrong it's cool but management be on some bullshyt sometimes.......

I went to Sosua one Saturday night, hit the clubs, and had a ball plus brought a little cutie back so...

This time I wanna try something different and get the whole experience of that action so Casa Linda is what it will be!

There are a couple of massage places over the barbershop near the cross roads a few blocks towards the beach from the Europa. Kika does not do sex (I don't think) but does excellent massage 1hour for 500 pesos that is worth every peso.

If you proceed up the street from the Europa away from the beach there is a new "massage" place a couple of blocks away, then next to that is Passion massage, where you can get an orange juice and a blow job.

Going back the other way towards the beach, there is a new "massage" place near the Classico disco, but I can't tell you how good it is.

My recommendation, for what it is worth is this: If you want a real massage, go to Kika. If you want sex, get your own girl from the street, bars, disco, casino and take them to your room. And remember that while you can't take all the girls from the disco at night, there is nothing to stop you making arrangements to see one or two the next afternoon at your hotel.

The only waterfalls I know of for sure are at Limon near Las Terrenas, which is a long way from Sosua. Maybe there is something local.

Blackbeards is about 25 miles from Sosua. You can cover the Sosua to Puerto Plata leg of the journey, which is 4/5 of the distance, in a public taxi, that costs only 30 pesos ($1) each way, if you want to save money. However your choice of girls at night in Sosua is infinitely superior to what you woud find at Blackbeard's at night. Blackbeard's is a good place to stay, especially if you are new to the DR, but offers less to the non resident visitor. You might want to go there for a day trip just to see it, if you are curious.

They are located in the central valley near the town of La Vega and south of Santiago. 80 miles from Sosua by car.[/red]

In short, MCB if this is your maiden voyage to Sosua - stick around the town. There is no need to venture far, except maybe to Cabarete one night for dinner. You'll have fun and you'll find some quality. If you want to take a day-trip to the waterfalls of Jarabacoa I have no doubt that The Europa could set it up. Enjoy your trip!
