I am not sure I understand which part of what they were doing is illegal. The site was hardly porn, as the girls were dressed. Taking and editing pics can't be illegal. Free make-up and costumes can't be illegal. Running tours of HK can't be illegal. If prostitution is legal, is advertising it illegal?
It is "other gangs" who were doing the tours anyway.
The only thing I can see is the site not reporting income for tax purposes? Is that the money laundering? Am I missing something?
The issue was the hotel side of the business because they charged ladies for advertising. And decent amounts of money. And in affect it was all in one shop.
Ladies are unhappy with the review process. Supposedly if they got bad reviews their advertising went up.
I am not sure I understand which part of what they were doing is illegal.
Money laundering is quite illegal. The bust has nothing to do with the girls or advertising. Though The Standard reports that the original site founders were charged in 2002 for conspiracy to live on the earnings of prostitution, and then the next owners were jailed for two years.
It seems that this latest bust the current owners were really greedy. Money laundering wasn't bad enough. They were also working to procure girls for the sex trade. But this does explain why the site also had certain favourite agents / papasans / pimps that they would advertise and feature over others. If the owners had just ran the site where revenue came only from advertising then there's a legal argument that nothing is illegal. But the owners didn't and were greedy. Hotel girls, walkups, punters and the forum all have nothing to do with the arrests and the charges all relate to money laundering.
The SCMP doesn't go into it but The Standard does. Specifically:
Profits from the ads were deposited into "puppet" bank accounts and transferred to other accounts to be laundered.
It is believed that Chan's wife ran a financial company, whose debtors who could not pay would provide their bank accounts as part of the laundering procedure.

"The syndicate used more than 100 bank accounts to launder illegal proceeds, according to police."
Source articles:

My main concern is where do we get the great great info that was in that database?
I am non HK based but regular visitor I need to know who / what is available where & when.
They shuts Best161 a few years ago but thank God survived but now thats gone I can find no site with even 5% the info.
I wouldn't think there would be too much sympathy for the people that ran that site. The viewing and access restrictions were just too much IMHO.
No amount of gentle persuasion would change their mind.
Styk
Hold on. Anyone could access the main site. With gal details by area, bldg, bust etc etc.
The forum in both English & Chinese was available 90%+ for anyone who just registered.
It was the best, most organised, updated & efficient sex database on planet earth.

First time in HK
I will be visiting HK for the first time and been enthusiastically reading the threads trying to get a grasp of the variety of possibilities there. Given I will be traveling with others, my time will be constrained, but hope to get in a little fun when I can.
Couple questions for you veterans:
1) Is there any action in the Sha Tin area? Will be staying out there for work and while having time to tour around other parts of the city, curious if there will be anything nearby.
2) What is the sauna scene like? Any particular places one would recommend for a non-Chinese speaking first-time visitor?
Been reading about 37 Dundas and that seems like a fairly easy place to manage. Are all the girls from mainland?
Appreciate any advice.
Thanks in advance,
RW

Illegal?
I am not sure I understand which part of what they were doing is illegal.
Prostitution as such is not illegal in HK.
The possible offences related to sex trade include: (1) living off the earnings, (2) running a vice establishment, (3) soliciting in public, and (4) breach of conditions of stay (girls admitted on tourist visa but working).
Money laundering and fraud / bribes might also happen depending on how they operated.
Cheers.

Living off the earnings of a prostitute is a crime so if the girl pays part of her earnings to anyone else involved in making her available that is a crime. But it can be very hard to investigate and prove, which is why most of the charges are for immigration violations / fraud / overstay / illegal work and money laundering.

141 explanation
Yea this is the problem. Despite the "141" label these girls are not truly 141 because there are advertisers, landlords, bosses, etc involved.
Johnny, maybe we should explain the unstated or assumed lingo / slang to the others.
The expression "141" is local slang for a local woman acting alone serving individual customers. (HK mongers on the board can explain the precise etymology of the expression.)
Thus, if the local woman acts on her own, within her own premises, without assistance from others, the operation will be legal, because she won't be allowing others to live off her earnings, nor will she be soliciting in public, and nor will she be breaching any immigration laws (being local and allowed to work here).
Cheers

141 is back up, but it's some sort of alternative site that requires log-in with existing account.

hi,
does anyone have any experience with any of the outcall massage places in hong kong? there seem to be quite a number online, and they sound very promising but i've seen a few bad reviews. specifically, does anyone have experience with *savoury massage* or "chuan's [CodeWord901] tantric massage", for example. the descriptions sound good, perhaps too good.
i'm only going to be in hong kong for a few days next month and i'd like to make the best of it. i know that many of you might suggest i go incall based on what i've read on this forum, but i like the idea of the girl in my hotel room.
any advice appreciated.
thanks,
franks

franks
with all due respect, you have contributed to the forum 3 questions and are only looking for advice. not one single report. to get something, you really need to contribute. what were your experiences as a result of your previous questions in shanghai and madrid?
to help you, however, there are plenty of outcall massage places in hk. google "hotel massage" and you will find them. after that it's pot luck but i am still seeing a girl who came to my hotel originally to provide a massage about 18 months ago. she still comes when i'm in town but there is now no massage if you get my drift. maybe i was lucky but you make your own luck sometimes.

Exactly
