Infact they are quite embarressed in how fast phils is slacking behind countries they should've been able to compare themself with. They can view it on a weekly basis as they have stopover in huge modern cities globaly and according to them (and myself ofcourse) it is not a pretty sight. A frase often heard is "what can I do about it". Ofcourse moving again is an option I lay out for them. But for these speciments as they have grabbed hold of rather, in phil standards, popular jobs (cabincrew) and have their base at NAIA. Moving is not an option until something opens up in other crewbases (airlines hub I e).

For the more homely girliecrowd (most of them ofcourse in my fleet) they don't know anything else than "clogged or slow moving systems"and probably don't view it as so bad. Ofcourse when they are with me they can hear my frustration when a porn video won't stream fast enough or I curse the much hated traffic and the disfunctional airport (the latter two my favorites). But unlike them I can go home soon. I have great compassion with them.

On the subject of job prospects.

Of late, I met a few Pinay nurses.

Nurse 1: Qualified as a nurse, worked as a Construction company quantity surveyor, looking for a job as a QS in Singapore. Couldn't tell her Singapore wants QS with qualification in QS. When her pass was rejected, she was not happy saying she has a degree, and what is wrong with Singapore, why they don't have compassion. Etc. Etc.

Nurse 2: Qualified as a nurse, working as a nanny, and moon lighting as a hooker in a famous Pinay bar. She was adamant that she will get back to her nursing career.

Alas, didn't have the heart to tell her that the fact that she qualified as a nurse, but worked as a nanny is a big no-no for Singapore hospitals. They need nurses who worked as nurses.

Nurse 3: Again, qualified as a nurse, and worked in Singapore as a old folks home care taker. Trying very hard to get back into nursing track. Alas, all her applications are rejected (Nursing home care takers get paid about 1,000 S $ - plus food and lodging, not bad vs being unemployed back home).

Nurse 4: Again, qualified as a nurse, worked for an American as an accountant in Philippines, and now trying hard to get a nursing job in Singapore. As she is open enough. With her Singapore nursing experience, she wants to move to Canada. Alas, as in above examples, Nursing board in Singapore is pretty choosy, and with a large pool of nurses to select from, they discard those who did work in non-nursing jobs.

Nurse 5: Qualified as a nurse, and with no chance for training / experience, volunteered in the Philippine Navy Hospital for a year, and then, based on her working with "NAVY" she was 'head hunted' and landed in Libya, and only recently got out of Libya.

She is job hunting in Singapore, but, with her Libyan Experience not documented, Singapore Nursing board is not so keen on her.

So there you go.

You can qualify as an engineer, and work as an accountant, you can qualify as an accountant and work a a legal assistant et al, in your own country.

Once you go overseas, the buyers are getting more choosy and with lower and lower pay scales and people willing to work (especially those from Philippines) the chances are vanishing.

For comparison, Nurses from India are paid upwards of 2,500 $, for Filipino Nurses, starting is 1,800 $ - more or less the agents have decided that at 1,800 $ there are hundreds lining up to join.

In light of GE's interesting and for some relevant FR on the absurdity of the license plate situation where those wishing to work (and pay taxes) can't work for lack of a license plate etc this article was amusing (in truth it would be if the situation was not so incompetent and ridiculous).

As GE said, a person could end up selling a car with no plate maybe years after the car was purchased!

LTO-related matters for me, gave her the paperwork and the money. I still don't have the new registration. Why? Well it turns out about 11 months ago or so a CTV caught me doing something I shouldn't have done, and I promptly paid the fine for which I have a receipt, which I gave to her. Evidently though the crack LTO hasn't yet recorded that the fine has been paid despite the fact that I can prove it has been. Just part of the theater of the absurd that is this country.
