The Owner of Mangos and why his business closed.
Lopez reportedly also blamed the closing on foreigners who "took up the habit of arriving with three or four pretty girls to show off while others proposed to dancers and employees or were trying to conquer other visitors' girlfriends," the paper said.
The Medellin club has become the city's most hyped since opening its doors in 1998, but also became infamous over the high number of prostitutes attending the establishment.
Hey guys. Stay in the casas and stay out of public. Just because these people don't speak gringo doesn't mean they don't recognize and speak about your habits. I'm fluent in spanish and it is disturbing and very dangerous for you.
I have never been to Medellin but understand what the owner of Mango's was saying. I've been to Costa Rica and the DR over the past 4 years-You have to understand many foreigners who go to these countries act like they own them because they're rich assholes. Don't you think that makes the natives a little ticked off? BFD you have money and because back in your home country your king doesn't mean shit there. I see these jerks in the Del Rey and I'm glad when the bartenders "pad" their tabs. I see them in the DR the girls laugh at them behind their backs all the time and gladly play the $$$$ game. I keep a low profile-treat everybody with respect and above all.I REMEMBER-I am a guest in their country-and I never had any problems.
This type of reputation is why I hardly go to Medellin anymore.
Awww and when is Colombia's official day of mourning for this travesty? :( boo hoo

I never heard such a more hypocritical "pot calling the kettle black" guy! All of us who frequent this forum whether you're a regular or casual poster are involved with prepagos and wh0re mongering to some extent, some more than others, but there should be no "holier-than-thou" attitudes on here. LOL
Miami,
I totally agree with you.
I believe he closed because his place sucked and business was bad. He could ahve just asked the offenders to leave.
I believe his reason for closing was BS.

Mel
Could have been renting and landlord jacked price. Overheads could be too much and not as popular as it used to be. Had heard week days were slow etc. Could be not enough mongers were going anymore with their open wallets and maybe he was sick of the BS himself. If he was smart he has a list of regulars contact info and moves somewhere smaller with less headaches and brings them with him.
If you read the article you would understand he was forced to close because of the bad "reputation" the place recieved. Another words people stopped going there because goof balls from other countries were showing up with p4p and kissing them and slow dancing with them. Also these same goof balls were offering money to his staff for sex. He is quoted in the article! I have been here for years upon years and I know 2 establishments that took guys and their prostitutes there every weekend. I have witnessed it myself. Why would the guy lie? He would have satyed in business if he could because money is money. But when no one showes up because people don't want to work hard all week and then have to look at a bunch of goof balls and their p4p he had to shut the doors.
People often want to blame their failures on others. Let's not forget we are simply talking about the law of supply and demand. If Mango's owner didn't want to admit certain people to the club, he could have remedied the problem quickly. Facts suggest that there was a very top heavy structure: there were over 140 employees, I understand. One thing I've found is that the Colombians are quick to blame others for their failures. I'm calling bullshit on this whole "it's the gringos fault that the business failed." Accordingly, if the gringos are the problem then Parque LLeras would be suffering, too.
These clubs come and go. It was not my cup of tea, so no great loss.
Meanwhile, only good energy!
Mangos is closed. No crocodile tears from me. Frankly, the one time I went, my impression was that it was tawdry and unappealing. A few gringos making fools out of themselves while surrounded by chicas with bolt on titties and pumped us asses. Bring on the midgets and the ubiquitous narco traffickers, music so loud that you can't carry on a conversations, and you've got a night at Mangos.
Good riddance. Maybe it will be replaced with a place that has just a little class, but don't bet on it.
Great post Legal Tender,
. Its like the self fulfilling proficiency, true reality is subjective, these gringos throw everything back on themselves. They don't give a f*k about you and your no Spanish speaking ass. Not unless you are friends, and that takes time. I know.
Anyways mangos was hella ugly cowboys theme expensive drinks when I went I saw more Colombians than gringos. Great its gone! And oh ya there are places they accept you, but you got to try, be a good person, friendly polite generous, see what happens! Only good energy!

When someone brings politics to a sex forum, they are just looking for someone to argue with. Why are people still playing his kiddie games.
My sentiments are the same. It was what it was. If it were profitable, it would still be alive or if it was some other problem, they will open a new business. One thing I am sure of, whatever the owner said, is NOT the reason. I'd like to read that article if someone can link to it. Who ever heard of a dance club closing because too many people were showing off or arrogant? I thought that's what you had to do to get IN a club. All of a sudden they have an ethical code?
Was Mangos ever supposed to be classy?

It closed because everyone avoids gringos with p4p like the plague. Period. I have been running off extranjeros with p4p for 2 years now down in lleras and I think I'm a big reason for gringos not being let in to the bars there without dates.
WGAFF?
Mangos, Parque Lleras, the Runner Up crusade. Whatever.

All the blah blah from some egotistical head case just doesn't matter.
It's cliche, but life really is short.
Enjoy :)
I could never understand the appeal of Mango{s. I went there once and I thought it sucked. I can think of a hundred.
Places I{the prefer to hang out at in Medellin. Just my opinion, but it{s no loss that it closed.
I was told about two clubs that has live salsa. Called "Melao Voce" and "El islabon". I wanted to know if anyone had been there. I was told its not a place that gingos go.
