The USA ambassador to the Philppines stated publically yesterday that "40% of male tourists to the Philippines are sex tourists, and this is unnaceptable". So, it took the American ambassador to finally say what had to be said. This means of course that 6 of 10 male tourists are NOT banging the local girls. This is not just unnacceptable, but it is shocking.

Will Aquino do something about this, like promoting Angeles or EDSA center? I doubt it. They will thank the ambassador, and do nothing, like always. And the ambassador even went on to say that those guilty of this crime should be prosecuted. But again, I doubt we'll see any prosecutions of tourism officials for failure to promote the sex industry.

The Philippine government has been told, and they have only themselves to blame if they do nothing.

But the bright side is that with 60% passing on the girls, it leaves more for us!

He knows he will get press bites for saying what he does. If you have noticed, US rotates its ambassadors fairly regularly through the Manila posting. As this one currently is quite loud, he will surely offend someone important sooner or later and then will be yanked to Ulan Bator or wherever.

Sure nothing that hasnt been said before but here goes.

First trip observations: hotels overpriced by sea standards; hundreds of attractive available girls (unlike the old dragons in Pattaya) ; all dance in the gogos with their bikinis on? ; can converse easily with girls if native english speaker; all girls gave good service (except 1 who left after 1 hour after I had paid 1650 barfine at voodoo; the town is small and not much to do except play golf.

All in all I think I prefer the filthy old hags of Pattaya, gogos with chicks sticking their nekkid muff in your face is more enjoyable than 30 or 40 girls dancing badly to crap music with their bikinis on.

What about the guy who genuinely wishes to visit the Philippines but does some mongering on the side? I don't consider that "sex tourism".

If we count the number of guys who get laid in the Philippines, whether or not he's there solely for that purpose, I'd say the number exceeds 80%. If it's sex-only and nothing else, I'd say it's 15%.

Today's statement from that ambassador shows the kind of relationship America has with the Philippines. Since the Philippines is a receipient of US aid, the ambassador can talk shit about his host and get away with it. He pretty much insulted the Philippines, insinuating the country is too crappy to attract legitimate tourists.

but the bright side is that with 60% passing on the girls, it leaves more for us![/quote]only thing usa can do is go against **** traffic. having said even here there is plenty of **** girls who are working in sex industry. in countries like phi there is no safety net and government is too poor, corrupt to enforce common laws. there will be nothing done irrespective of what us ambassador says. it is like prohibition here in the 20's. every illegal activity if strictly enforced will go underground. once it goes underground there are more exploitations and more corrupt police than now.

After reading the thread about the American Ambassador to the P. I, I had to step away from my computer for a little bit. For him to say such a thing is slander and down right despicable. What gives him the right to label us Americans' and Filipino's. I believe he should publicly apologize to both USAresidents and especially the Filipinos. Mr Ambassador, you should keep your mouth shut until you clean up your own back yard. Prostitution is alive and well here in the states and even LEGAL in Nevada. So, it should be okay to engage in prostitution here in America but not abroad? What about p4p in others countries like Russia, Ukraine, England, Italy, France and Germany. And let's not forget Amsterdam where not only is it legal but so are many drugs. Why not say the same of the people of those countries, oh, you'd get in some really serious trouble. They are not 3rd world countries and they would have your a. Just like here in America it is a way for those to support their families and thrive. Unless he plans on supporting all those women in the Philippines he should stay quiet.

But if the Philippines accepts US aid, it has to accept (and expect) US criticism. That's just how the world works. According to usaid(dot)gov, the US gave the Philippines $105 million in economic aid last year. Much more was given as military aid.

Besides, that ambassador isn't the ambassador to Russia, Ukraine, England, etc. So naturally, he's not going to talk about sex tourism to those countries.

Ultimately, he was correct in saying that many tourists come to the Philippines with sex on their minds and that it's not the kind of tourism the Philippines should be proud of. But he shouldn't have phrased his comments in such a stinging manner. He also shouldn't have thrown out numbers that he couldn't back up.
