Hard Hat Mate- Thanks so much for your very detailed post- it was very helpful. I will send a PM. As a follow up, I love diversity in clubs- I am sure CJs and BATS will be great, and actually love love hard house, tribal and other electronica. Not every night, but.
Thanks for the hotel feedback. One more question. Work colleagues are going to pick me up in Jakarta from a couple hours away. Will the Mercure Kota scream "monger in sex tourist area", or will it be a fine place for them to come and get me. I will actually have six nights before they come for me, and after a bit more reading, am thinking of staying the whole time there. Yet, if it will raise questions, I will move a more business oriented hotel in Central Jakarta.
Beyond excited for this trip- one month to go.
Psychman.
Be careful there are two Mercure's in Hayam Waruk Street. The recommendation is the "Gran Mercure" in Harmoni area. This is the one with the large pool, new sauna and gym overlooking the Transjakarta station (direct to Blok M) and street. It's also conveniently across the road / canal from Malioboro / Malio club (two venues in one).
It's a modern and respectable hotel which is popular for weddings so your colleagues wifes / families would approve of it. It's also close to national museum, grand mosques etc. So would suit the average joe public tourist.
The other mercure is an old hotel and half the price for good reason.
If you are wanting to explore south Jakarta I guess the hotels in Kemang e. G Swiss Bell. Would be an interesting option though to get a gym and pool you'd be paying twice the price of Gran Mercure.
If I had a week in Jakarta I would probably only make one visit to Bats / CJs. The rest would definatley be North to experience the sweat, smells and deep house of the clubs and parlours that Jakarta is renowned for.
Back in Jakarta, but with a big difference!. Somehow some kind of relationship with someone I know for years, just happened. Is it good? Not if you want to keep contributing FR's to ISG.
However, "meeting an old friend" was good enough to provide me with some time to meet a very well-known member of this thread, one afternoon, in the Kota area. We exchanged novelties while enjoying a steak at Abuba and due to the lack of time, we headed the the nearest spots: Kartika, Berlian and the first in the row in that alley (forgot the name).
The first one had a lot of young 6-7/10, but since no one of them reacted to our entrance, I decided to go to the next place, Berlian. More of the same reaction there actually, only, the mamasan kept pushing to take one. Just as we were to leave the place, a bubbly girl, in the literal and figurative sense, prevented us from doing that. Her looks were ok, but she was too fat for my taste. I still wanted to see what Kartika had to offer, so we went there. My bad, somehow, that afternoon, the reception in the 3 places was far from being great! What a deception! But, since I wanted to make the most of my time, I decided to go back to the bubbly girl.
In the room she started undressing me while teasing my dick with her hands and her tongue. I thought that that was a good start. Then I had to lay face-down and she started to give a decent massage. At some point she reached under my body and started giving a HJ. I soon turned around and asked her to continue with BBBJ. I also tried to get an AR, but she wasn't very willing to do that. Still I managed to push her head in the right direction to receive sporadic strokes of her tongue on the right spot. This cat and mouse game continued a few minutes until I was ready to come. I moved her mouth over my dick and after a few up and down movements I shot my load in her mouth while she kept on sucking.
When we were showering afterwards, of course, my mobile phone rang. I guess you'll all know who was at the other end of the line. I managed to find a window so street noises were to be heard by her when she asked me where I was! I'm walking to the Transjakarta busstop, dear!
PS I tried to post a photo of bubbly, but failed. Is it because I use a proxy?

I actually booked at the older, more "naughty" and cheaper location, the Mercure Kota for 6 nights (paid through Agoda). I might actually get another room for the final night at a more "respectable" hotel- I need to check out the vibe of my colleagues and the hotel / area. The Mercure Kota is cheap enough that it is not a big deal.
I may (or may not) stay South on the final leg of the trip- I will have six days on the ground to see how I feel. I may even fly to Bali for a few. Very excited for all that Jakarta has to offer, from the Deep House clubs, to the high end spas, to mid range places like Travel, to CJs and Bats, Blok M, ect. As with all my trips, I over prepare, and once I am there, I go with the flow. Just how I roll.

Based on appearances, it is not luxury but doesn't seem bad. And I tend to like the location more than the Mercure Harmoni (closer to the down and dirty Kota bars), although if one gravitates to the higher-end Malioboro (as many do) the Mercure Harmoni would be closer. The newer Mercure at Harmoni is more of a higher-quality hotel (perhaps 4-star to Kota's 3 or 3 1/2 star), but that doesn't detract from the acceptability of the Mercure Kota. Then again, I haven't stayed in any of the rooms there so my information is not complete.

We could almost have held a congress last night <grin> ; Egy Monger, Menteng, Smoothy and myself at the bar in D's and Cooze Hound would have joined too if his stomach hadn't protested too much.
Good enoough for a repeat in future.

Discos in Jakarta are an acquired taste, I assume you mean the hardcore stuff as reference to your comment about the girls being on it. The hardcore Kota clubs are only for those who are young or young at heart and have an inclination for dance music, if your NOT then you will be annoyed with the amount of young hotties off their face, the unique kota tribal dance music, the damn damn loud music and the very very dangerous conditions (my biggest problem is relaxing when I'm in a club full of people off their face, on the 4th floor and there is 1 exit in and out). Back to freelancers in Nth Jakarta. Ok so again I am going to be controversial here, but the way I see it is every single Indonesian girl under 30 in Nth Jakarta, without a BF and not Indo Chinese IS after 10 pm a freelancer. OK Ok so I am generalizing, but basically get out around Hayum Waruk and Lokassari at midnight and their all on the game.
Cheers HHM.
I just spend two weekends in Jakarta. This is by far the most interesting and accurate post.
Here is my highlights.
Girl clubs.
Malioboro Sat night, 10 PM. Amazing place full of energy, girl DJ's, lots of naked girls on middle stage changing. A must visit! Girls all have trimmed Bush, it's like part of their uniform. Lots of cute side-line girls sitting around, talk with mamasan to inquire. My understanding cost is 800-1 M give or take. Then you get constantly approached by couples of girls; your choice to chat with them or buy them drinks. The stage girls some do BJ's some don't, more expensive. Not sure about exact prices. Also check out upstairs. I really enjoyed it there. So many not girls in one place. I think there is also a spa, I didn't go.
Alexis Sun night. Compared to Malioboro the spa 7th floor is much more quite relaxed place. Girls sit in batches, based on nationality. Local (and some very cute) are 1-1. 2 M. You've got a variety of other nationalities incl Vietnam, China, Kazak for up to 2. 3 M I chatted with Kazak girl, super friendly and cute. Shuts early, like 1 or 2 am on weekdays and Sunday. A very nice place to relax early evenings. Nice spa.
Check out Classic, a cheaper option to the above. You've got floor 1 and 5, found both similar. Girls are 3. 5 K and 700 for 2, special. Hot non-sideline girls, approach you with mamasan. They want you to buy them shots (I think it was 50 K a shot) to play with their tits and asses. Got quoted 1. 3 M for one of these. Classic is a class below Malioboro and Alexis, hence cheaper prices. But you can find a hot one.
BATS, Sunday 8 PM or so, was slow and I left. Didn't get a chance to checkout CJ.
BLOK M, a good late hour option, only been to MyBar, but there are other clubs on the block. But will take time to find one you like, it's bit seedy and you don't get to meet a girl in bikini to take a good look first. This is cool though if you like FL's and some game. Overall not very impressed with quality.
Malls.
Grand Plaza Indonesia is great for food, lots of restaurants from all corners of Asia. As far as girls, you are not in LA or Miami, you will walk a mile before seeing a hot girl. That's my opinion of course.
Normal clubs.
Your best bet to start the night is Potato Head lounge for a drink, then Immigrant. Also you've got a lot of good clubs around Potato Head. These are highest end places, but I can't say that these high end girls are much better quality than elsewhere (or this could be New Years week and hot ones were in Bali). I heard there you can meet a "good" girl. I would have a couple of drinks and get numbers, and move on to North.
North clubs.
Gold Crown Bar, huge, happening every day. Lots of FL's, some will wait to be approached, some approach you. Another really good option for crazy clubbing is Melli's Entertainment. I was there until 3 PM next day and it was still on. Like the OP said, you must understand your way around club scene, being able to mingle with all the Hi girls, enjoy music and dance. Best go with a local to show you around. For me these places were the most fun, crazy and unpredictable, I love the hunt in clubs.
The music in the North is same or similar tune, the kind I couldn't really figure out, a mix of tribal / dub / techno; Melli's has one room with more mainstream techno / deep house. Keep in mind drinks are pricey in all these clubs, so 120-150 K per drink (comes to 5-8 pounds per drink), still cheaper than London but you are not in London.
Taxi.
Most will use meter, so really no issues there, very cheap, but if you are not staying at a one of the main hotels be prepared to explain exactly where it is and best show them google map on your phone.
Overall quite impressed with nightlife and the city.

It's a shame the back room was empty that night.
Also seemed the dancers on stage were reluctant to go in the back room.
BATS, Sunday 8 PM or so, was slow and I left. Didn't get a chance to checkout CJ.
Even though it's free entry on Sundays it's still the emptiest day of the week.
And 8 PM is a bit too early, better to go around 10 when the band starts playing. Doesn't get packed until 12.
CJ's would have also been empty at 8 pm. Not just on Sunday, but any night. That's too early to go out.

Also seemed the dancers on stage were reluctant to go in the back room.
I'm not too concerned if I'm the only visitor to the backroom, but everyone has their own preferences. I agree that "the more the merrier" but if other people are not inclined, I think it's their loss. Not all dancers want to go to the backroom (Mila is one of them) but many are quite keen for the extra income. Chacha (the one in the red T-shirt where Smoothy was quite keen on) is enthousiastic, as are Ayu and Indi and a number of others. Maybe you just left too soon.
I hope we can repeat some time.

Ko.
Landed around noon for my first visit to Jakarta. Checked into Holiday Inn Express Thamrin. A decent reasonably priced hotel in Central Jakarta. No issues with girls coming in for overnight.
About 9 PM, I went over to BATS in Shangrila. It is a short distance. But, was advised by the reception to take a taxi. Apparently, after 9, it is not very safe to walk around. The hotel lobby is majestic. Even at 9, crowd was decent. There was a lively band. Started talking to a girl, who was shy and seemed like a regular office worker. Claimed to be a insurance firm staff with high school education. Quoted 1 million for short time, but I stuck to 600 K. She agreed to that and seemed in a hurry to close the deal and get away.
A short taxi ride took us to the hotel, where we spent about 90 minutes with real GFE. Bliss.
CJ's doesn't open till 9 pm (may have changed since it's been a couple of years since I've stayed in the Mulia). Went down once at 8.45 pm and walked inside to a few strange looks. The guys weren't even on the doors yet, but since I was a guest they sat me down, grabbed me a drink and continued on setting up. Was interesting watching the place fill up through the night!
CJ's would have also been empty at 8 pm. Not just on Sunday, but any night. That's too early to go out.
