It's all relative I guess. I've been staying in CM for five years and I have been freezing my but off lately. Temps are back to normal now though-25-30 C.

Does anyone know of any places which is discrete and somehow hidden where one could indulge in my favorite activity? The mp's around town is just too obvious, and my wife would be alerted in no time by someone who'd recognize me. Maybe somewhere just out of town, lamphun I. E? Or some uni students in strap for cash?

Chiang Mai's scene is pretty tame and all pretty much gathered around the main Mongering Areas.

Unless you don't mind wandering in places that cater to Thais only.

In this town fairly easy to find one. Karaoke girls(especially low season), get their mobile #'s, shop girls, older Uni students, put them up in a cheap apartment somewhere. 10,000 bht monthly + a few expensives keeps most pretty happy.

I've been living in BKK for the past 3 months and have been thinking about moving to Chiang Mai. Any suggestions on where/how to start looking for a place to rent? What sort of condo could I get for 5000THB/month?

If you are used to paying inner BKK prices I think you will be pleasantly surprised at CM.

Just had a friend come and look at condos for 3 days in a similar situation. Close to the Night Bazaar expensive. If you get out of the farang areas things get pretty cheap. In my building, next to CMU, we looked at a 44 sq mtr place for rent at 5500bht monthly. Other hot areas are Ninamanheiman Rd. Neat area, coffee shops, bars, boutiques, etc., you can run the gamit from 7000-20,000bht. Depends upon size, services, etc.

You might want to try the massage parlour at the Chiangmai Hills Hotel in Huay Kaew Road. They open around noon and by then already have 30 or so girls, many cuties among them. 1. 800 Baht for 1, 5 hours for the "normal" ones and 2. 000 Baht for the "young" ones, but definitly some cuties among them. But knowledge of Thai is in my opionion mandatory for the real experience. Then you can easily get their phone numbers and meet them outside as well.

I'm thinking about staying at Baan Orapin for a few days after Xmas. It's an upper scale bed & breakfast. Just wondering if anyone has stayed there, whether it's recommended, and if it's girl friendly. I've done a lot of reading here on girl friendly hotels and guest houses, but have not seen anything on this place.

Not sure where you mean. If the top of the road is the end at the moat, then you are probably referring to the small alley way with several massage places in it. If this is the same place, then I can tell you I spent some time there last summer and the girls aren't that good looking, take a lot of encouragement to do anything other than tease you, charge substantially above the norm, have small, not very private shops and more than one or two lady boys are employed there. But dangerous? Nah.
