Actually I was referring to tipping the Restaurant Manager in a reasonable Hotel so as to be able to join the regular paid up members of the buffet breakfast team - all in matching sandals ?? !!
Understood the hotel is always going to be more expensive to eat in than most nearby local restaurants. I always eat out, except when I am DATY of course, but then there are even exceptions to that rule too.

No, but after wearing the obligatory business suit and tie, together with proper leather shoes for more years than I can count during my former forgotten career in the states, I now relish the fact that sandals and short pants are the attire of choice here in Pattaya. With them I can still get the girls, P4P and non P4P.
If my luck holds out, I shall never wear a suit and tie again, and my collection of leather shoes can rot in my daughter's closet.

As for sandals, just buy what is most comfortable. Some 20 baht flip flops will do just fine, though I prefer something a bit more fashionable in the range of 200-400 baht. :D

I was not sure where to post this - sorry if there is a better place.
I will be spending a fair amount of time in BKK in the near future and the place I'm staying at does not have a pool that is suitable for lap swimming. Does anyone know of place where I can go lap swimming? Any private/membership gyms with an outdoor lap pool? Any public facilities?

Plenty of reports....some good, some bad, on these places and others, but I've narrowed it down to these three.
I like the location of these places, they have pools and they are a similar price on Agoda...but damm if I can decide.
Anyone stayed at two or all of these places for a comparison.

I have stayed at both the Darwin and Majestic Grande. The rate of the Majestic Grand at $66+tax is a bargain. I would definitely stay at the MG at that price.

Any public facilities[/QUOTE]If you will be staying in the Silom/Sathorn District there's two very good 25 meter pools that you can pay (not much) to swim at: 1) the Trinity Complex; and 2) The Oasis Apartment on Soi Phiphat.
Both are less than a 5-minute walk from the Chong Nonsi BTS station.

I visited a friend at the Omni, it's off the list bro, forget it.
Agoda is $234/3 night special total inc tax: Good deal. The Grande Superior Executive with much larger room and balcony is $290/3 night special total is an exceptionally good deal at that price.
MG is blind eye girl friendly and right in the middle of the madness.

I'm a newbie here. Need some help. It's my first time to Bangkok. I have a really good travel package from HK to BKK for 4 days. They gave me two choices. Marriott Courtyard or Pullman. They both seem to be the same distance from all the action. But which place would you choose? I want to be sure they are Guest friendly.
Are they too far from the action? Please recommend a similar place that maybe closer.

this is a follow up to the earlier discussion about hotels that do not provide free internet service; the mg apparently has gotten the message or business must be worse than bad. whatever the reason, they are now providing free internet service and a host of other complimentary offerings. the price of $81.00 from agoda makes this one of the better deals in bangkok. the text below is from their website.

maybe they have done their homework and..RTFF and adjust their proposals according to demand and market! lol
those perks are great, but at $81, i'd rather see a drop in price and give up canapes, cocktails, and most of the rest of it (except i do agree with the need to offer free internet). alot of that is pretty irrelevant to my needs when traveling (can't thnk of thre last time i had something pressed, or wanted yet another drink when going out mongering evenings anyway)...
just my opinion, i know tastes and interests differ. but in case they are rtff, better to know that some of us would be served by lower prices more than any other perk!
