Opening a PI business in Rio
According to the PI that I spoke with, he does a good business there and a lot of comes from gringos with GDP girlfriends. I doubt he is rolling in cash, but I would bet he makes a comfortable living. I did pay him for a few hours of work and I can’t remember what it cost me but it was reasonable. I also remember it was well above what a Brazilian would normally earn though.

After reading this, maybe I really should consider giving it a try. I just got laid off from my job and I am headed to Rio for the next couple of months anyway. I should really look into what it takes to open this type of business.
One thing I know for sure, I am sure most Americans would feel more much comfortable dealing with another American instead of a brasilian man. I wouldnt be surprised in the least to find out that a bunch of the brasilian PIs are cutting a side deal (either for money or pussy) from the GDP, they are supposed to be tracking.
Side note. In the past couple of years, I have already helped about 6 different guys with this same problem. Guys from different boards who knew I was headed to brasil, next thing i know, i get a PM asking "Can you tell me if you see this girl in Help or MP". I have probably saved them tens of thousands of dollars by letting them know that their girl is still working .
Stop destroying each other's lifes
One important thing: You made a TERRIBLE mistake. You thought that because a gilrl is a GDP, that she has no honor. That's not true. Even more, her honor is terribly important for her. Pride is CRUCIAL for brazilians in general and mentioning her name in public forums is what brought you to this situation.
If I were you, I'd still try to talk with her and try to amend things. Think: She's not some anglosaxon wife trying to get your last penny for alimony. She's a brazilian. And brazilians are different.
Just to finish: I know this might sound crazy to most of you, but believe me, I know brazilians, I'm happily married to one (no, not a GDP).
About your case: She played her rules, you played your rules. You both got hurt. Talk to her and tell her it doesn't make sense for you two to keep destroying each other. You can still do a lot of damage to her. And she knows it.
Don't spend more money with lawyers, try to evolve from this experience. GDPs in Brazil don't have an easy life. Don't treat them like scum. They're human. They just have a different set of rules.
And above all, don't get sore with women and Brazil. They're great.
