Sao Paulo part 1: the logistics.
1) Visa.
- self-service, straightforward process, printable visa emailed next day.
2) Getting in.
- Wild variety of prices. I found a special fare from Florida for $400, plus tickets to get to Florida. All in was way cheaper than the tickets from my town.
- Customs / immigration basically a non-event. Only question was how long would I be staying. But printed visa checked before boarding and at the immigration.
3) Getting around.
- Uber from the airport was 80 reals (22).
- Uber around town. Most were in the 10-15 reals range, cheapest was 8, most expensive was 25 reals (from downtown and with some surge pricing).
- Subway. Took it a few times when it made sense (I was right next to the station), costs 4 reals, so with uber pricing being around 10-12 it's not worth making the effort.
4) Hotel.
- The highly recommended Mercure Moema on Av Lavandisca.
- Rooms have balconies and living rooms, which is absolutely awesome for stays of longer than a day or two.
- Safe neighborhood, a few supermarkets within 2-3 blocks, bars, cafes, restaurants, etc. And very walkable, I was walking around even after dark as long as there are people, which there usually are.
5) Shopping, money, and communications.
- The expensive "24 hour ATM" limits withdrawals to 1000 reals and there's a crazy fee. Something like 30 reals or so, I don't remember.
- Normal ATMs are available at banks, but look for the Visa / Mastercard logo. Not all ATMs have it. I found Bradesco and Itai banks both have normal ATMs with the limit of 2500 reals and no fees on their end.
- Shopping center at Av. Ibirapuera, 3103 - Indianópolis, São Paulo. SP, 04029-200 - is your one stop shop for money and a sim card (and a cup of coffee if you go to the basement) - but only during working hours.
- There's a bradesco bank on the third floor (I think it's called 2nd floor in Brazilian) with normal ATMs. Didn't find any normal ATMs on the first floor (T in Brazilian).
- TWO VIVO shops, one on the second floor, another on the third. The one on the second floor is useless. They sent me to the third floor because only that shop can activate a sim card with a passport only, without a Brazilian document.
- The third floor (the top floor) Vivo shop is well-staffed, there's a girl named Bianca who speaks English, and the store manager is rather helpful. Bring in your unlocked cell phone, a passport (a copy would not do, they need the original) and after 30 minutes of them typing ferociously you'll end up with an activated and tested sim card. The cost for the card is 12 reals, then a data+voice plan costs between 7 and 20 reals per week depending on your needs and current promotions. Overall, it takes time but it's not a hassle at all.
6) There are free walking tours, museums that are free on Saturdays, free roof access to a tall building downtown, etc etc. A nice city. Hot but not super hot. I would turn on the air conditioner for about an hour to cool down the bedroom before sleeping, but I would just keep the balcony door open and enjoy the fresh air in the living room.
7) Food is kinda expensive. But fresh juices are a great bargain at 5-6-7 reals. Beef is good, I prefer Brazilian-style to Argentinian. The latter is way too soft for my liking, I want to be able to chew through my dead cows.

The bad:- Brooklin (Joaquin Guarani, 121) - more than 200 for half hour, CBJ, asked for the money up front.
- Generally the weekday crowd is different from the Sunday lineup, so may be nice to visit the same clinica on a Sunday and on a weekday to see more variety.
- A good strategy is to show up early and sit and wait for the girls to show up, then pick them as they walk in. Helps avoid the cum breath.
-I reached out to a few girls but in the end only settled on one named Bianca Lessa.
