Hi guys I'm going to stay in Frankfurt 3 nights on the first weekend of September. Destination Sharks and Oase. Considering it's my first time in Frankfurt and that I'm going to be moving by train, I was thinking of booking in the HBF area like 100-200 mt close. I'm a little concerned however for what I've read in the hotels feedback reviews, is it really dangerous to walk in the evening in the surroundings of hbf? I don't plan on staying outside more than necessary but since I'm traveling alone I'd like to hear the opinions of those who know the area and if I should book somewhere else maybe. Do you have other areas of the city to suggest? Thank you very much!

Only time I felt a bit nervous was in February when I came in from the airport loaded with Euros for the girls and there were a lot of migrants around the Hauptbahnhof. They seem to have disappeared or maybe its just me that don't notice them anymore. The hotels warns about thieves now and they didn't do before but that is not strange for a major city in Europe. InterCity Hotel I can recommend; just outside the Hbf.

As long as you stay on Kaiserstrasse it feels safe. But if you venture over to Niddastrasse at night, you'll meet a few drugdealers and gangs for sure. And that's where the nightlife is.

I just wanted to know if there are hotels or streets in the hbf area you guys would recommend that are safer than others. As I said I plan to spend those couple of days inside fkks so my only concern is walking to and from the station.
I never worry anywhere in the RLD. As long as you are a little streetwise you are ok. (Streetwise means picking up bad vibes off people, being aware of anyone acting weird or off their heads, not looking as if I have loads of money and so on) The junkies keep themselves to themselves, there are tons of Police around, and I've never had even a hint of trouble, despite being a tiny, older guy on my own.
I only speak for the time up till midnight. I've not been in the area later.
If you are really worried just choose a hotel on a larger street not too far from the station

Certainly not lavish, but I am only there to shower and sleep.

Cheap rooms and short walk to the hbf.

[/QUOTE]I can only confirm that the above description is very, very accurate, even during the hours 02-05.30 every morning. When I go on multi-day FKK visits, I ALWAYS end up on Taunus Strasse, drinking Bier von Fass at various beer bars between the afore mentioned hours, and exactly what Optimist describes prevails. Based on many, many years of late, late night experience here, I can confidently proclaim: This place is tame, tame, tame vs other cities. There are always Polizei vans circulating through the area, and, on balance, your greatest danger is getting dhiarrea from some of the Kebab shops, or worse yet: eating at McDonalds!

I wasnt comfortable taking photos late at night due to the feeling of my eyes always on me though. There are alot of guys hanging around eyeballing everything.
