Mr. GZ, nice to hear you had a good time and learned something about your right to choose your girl. I just wanted to point out that there is no need to tip the attendants $100 in the change/sauna rooms. A $10/20 note is enough. Save your money for the real services and keep the reports coming.

You didnt give out the details on how to find this place, to protect it, I guess, so can you PM me the info? There are quite a few hotels along the riverside, on 沿江中路, the main one being the Hotel Landmark Canton (华夏大酒店 ), so maybe that was the hotel? I have stayed there before, but have never ventured around the area, but I am sure there must be some sauna around, so if you pm me the name of something, I will find it.

Good point, I double that, usually 10 or 20. Only in KTV room in GZ that you need to tip that much to a server (DJ or whatever).

I don't think that is very nice. They would much prefer 10yuan then your $5, as there is no simple way that these poor guys can exchange that small amount. IMHO. They have family to feed too.

My Shanghai Chinese Banker working in USA indicated I could pay in dollars for small service in China, limiting my exchanges.
She is a local who does Shanghai family visit yearly and the family takes care of it all expenses.
As you indicated not a practical advice for CN. Where is the best place in GZ to exchange ? Is it the Airport in cash or ATM for best exchange rate?

That might during the golden years when RMB/USD was around 8. Also, if there were a lot of cummulative small payments in USD, and when the black market for USD existed, might be possible. Nowadays, RMB is king, and the government imposes strict limitations on converting into RMB. Passport is needed in any place to convert and a counter is updated on the total amount per passport. I keep Chinese bank and wire into it and I can convert no more then 50k a year, and bank wire is the only way to get to the official exchange rate of 6.8.
Other then bank wire, ATM is your next best bet in getting something close to the exchange rate.

I have read the forum but I still have a few questions.
I am going to GZ and staying in Zhan Qian road in a hotel called Elan Hotel.
What is the action around that area? Any suggestion of massage places that I can walk to? Any SW?
One other question: some of the girls in craigslist seem to be very nice. Are they real? Any experiences? Is there another escort site that yo may suggest for Guangzhou?

Another alternative if you are coming from Hong Kong into Shenzhen and then to GZ is to use one of the 'bank' counters you'll see after clearing customs. At Shenzhen Bay, it's just after you exit the building proper. They are used to changing HK dollars, but I expect they will change USD. No paperwork, no passport, no paper trail. I don't know GZ well enough to know where such a place might be found. But I am sure they are there. At least with HKD, the rate is equivalent to the rate in Hong Kong. Actually, I now change most of my HKD to RMB at one of the train station exchange joints in HK (usually Kowloon Tong). Again, no paperwork needed, though the HK government made noises last year about wanting to 'regulate' things.

Just a note of caution.
Fake RMB bank notes abound and whilst most money changers in Hong Kong and within the border crossings have NOT been infamous for passing off these fake bank notes, there HAD BEEN instances when such has occured. Especially to obvious looking once in a lifetime tourists to China.
And whilst this is NOT fool-proof, I prefer to just use bank ATM to withdraw RMB's - which gives pretty fair exchange rate. In Hong Kong, just look for those ATM's which advertises "RMB Notes Available," while in China, all ATM withdrawals will of course be denominated in RMB automatically.

The only drawback is that thereīs a 15000RMB withdraw limit per week on both my VISA and Mastercard.
This may sound a bit stupid, but ...
This is my second trip to Asia. In the first trip, many years ago, I had a great 2 hour massage in bangkok. No dirty business. I remember leaving the massage place very relaxed.
Is there such a thing in Guangzhou? Is that common?
